I take my scooter inside everywhere I go, don't care if it weighs a ton, it comes everywhere I go. Some malls wont allow you to bring it inside so I have a special bag I put my scooter into and carry it over my back so they cannot tell it's a scooter I am carrying. I charge it from coffee shop outlets, I secretly plug it in, free juice! hehe.
lol, that's awesome! This thing weighs a lot though, you'll be buff in no time if you were doing it with this.
What bag do you use to carry your scooter?
How big is this bag? Must be heavy
@@JudiJoseph lmao right
How much does your scooter weigh and what bag do you use??? Do u have link
*Battery life is great **Latest.Bike** Scooter . Love the different driving modes. It’s got a little headlight and taillight too. Gets lots of looks haha*
I just use the U lock, as you mentioned the cable isn't really necessary and not adding much to the security (if any at all). Thanks for the concise video!
Yup, that's all you really need! NP
Thank you! First practical scooter lock video I've found!
Thanks!
I ordered one yesterday and looking forward to receiving it this week. Great video on how to lock it! Thanks for the tips!
That's great! Thanks for the feedback!
How are you enjoying it?
Thank you for posting this!
Thanks!
good tip. All i would add is to be aware of the pole it is being locked to and can they slide the scooter up the pole and that the pole is secured to the ground very well and can't be pulled out of the ground.
Yes, that definitely makes a difference. By putting the secondary lock which seems useless actually makes the first one harder to move to prevent just that
Thanks for the tips
No problem!
Great video!
I ordered one lock the one you have and 3 cable chains and they so strong and secured
Nice! Hopefully it does the trick.
@@landpet yes im thinking only to use lock when going to store and locking scooter to a pole or n pole and then going back home and im pretty sure it might work since it is so strong and i tries cuttinf one with scissors and it is still strong and lock thing only unlocks with keys 😎😎😎😎 thats what makes me happy about lock chains
*Use a u lock as shown then fold the scooter and put a cable lock around the stem and base near the handle bars so it can’t be unfolded.*
That's a good idea as well
@@landpet Great idea Views 4rm, I think landpet you should do another video showing us how this looks
So might as well buy two locks , gr8 idea thanks 😊
@@juliannaclark1604 I use 2 locks to lock my ebike. Diversity is the best way to discourage theft, so I have both a Kryptonite U-Lock and chain lock, as well as a $20 vibration alarm. It's kind of a pain but it's worth it.
This same cable lock on the video?
Great video bud
Thanks 👍
Lock mine in the same spot with a folding Bordo lock. Good tips.
Yup, those are pretty nice also cause they save a lot of space. Thanks for mentioning.
@@landpet Hey how has your max been holding up? I'm receiving mine tomorrow so I wanted to know how durable they are. I had to return 2 Es4s because of battery connectivity issues. Im hoping the max gives me less headache.
Just got mine yesterday and I will just get a U Lock for it I think, I don't plan on leaving my scoot for more than a couple of minutes while I run into a store or something. If you had to leave it for longer I would add another level of security for sure.
I agree
Excellent. Just had to confirm getting this type of C-lock with CZcams. I see we all think similarly.
yup
This is how I lock up mine and someone had tried to steal it today and it has taken some damaged but still usable
How are you enjoying that ninebot scooter?
(oh and - yeah - thought of locking mine like that and was just too paranoid that I'm missing out some key aspect - had to check)
it's a great scooter, haven't been riding it as much cause I have a few others that I've been trying to get a better idea for reviews.
Thanks
No problem!
I use this to get free parking at Disneyland as it fits in the trunk. I lock from the stem because mine is ES2. My u-lock is small enough so handle bars & front wheel will block it from coming out.
nice
What model scooter do you have? Your wheels are diff than my Max wheels.... have you swapped them out for different ones?
Thx for the lock info!
Mine is a limited edition, only 1,000 made and they only had it at IndieGoGo when it was first released.
Where do you typically store your lock? In a backpack?
Yes in my backpack. It does come with something that let's me attach it to the frame of the scooter as well but I don't use that.
How much does it cost to fully charge electric scooter? I know it depends on the size of the battery but what's the average in Canada?
I don't know the price of electricity in Canada. I live in California and it costs around 17 cents for a kwh, since this thing has a battery size of 551wh and let's assume some power loss during charging (80% efficiency). You're looking at $0.17 * 0.551 / 0.8 = $0.117 (roughly 12 cents)
The app I downloaded looks different from the one in the video.
If I lock the Max, it doesn't let me turn off the power until I unlock it again, so I can't seem to lock it unless it's left on. Is there a different app than the Segway-Ninebot app?
The app in this video, is the old version of the app. My current app looks different.
Yes, when I lock it, it doesn't let me turn off the scooter. Only let me turn it off when I've unlocked it.
@@landpet
The inexorable march of progress- backwards... ;)
They stole my ninebot max 2 days ago. They used a mallet and smash the end of the opposite side of where you unlock it with a key.. It was a u lock. I was so broken hearted.. You better secure it 2x or 3x with 2 or 3 different types of lock.
Sorry to hear that, yes unfortunately this method isn't fool proof. I always prioritize taking the scooter with me, this is really when I absolutely need to tie it and I try not to leave it for long periods of time.
These thieves have no heart man, imagine if this was your only option to get home, you would be stranded
:(
So do these locks really keep your scooter safe? I’m thinking about getting my first scooter, and I’m just worried about the security when I have to go to a mall or something
No lock is completely safe. I always try to take my scooter with me, but if not, then this is what I use. I always try to lock it up in a very public place where there are a lot of people around, rather than hidden away from everything. There are alarms and other things as well that help but nothing will stop an angle grinder. Angle grinders make metal feel like butter sometimes, granted they are loud and can draw attention :). For more discrete solutions, people can in theory take off your handle bars and your front wheel and try to slide off the lock as well, this will take some time to do. Hence why I have the additional chain to help restrain it even more by keeping the U Lock more confined. Again, at the end of the day, if someone REALLY wants to steal your scooter, there's not much you can do. This is just a good deterrent, nothing more, nothing less.
Not really 100% safe. I went to the mall today after shopping my scooter was gone they cut the cable lock.
@@arzeereyes6663 dam, that sucks! What city did that happen in?
@@markleach2177 compton CA
@@arzeereyes6663 Cable locks are notorious for having horrible security. A U-lock and/or chain lock are much more secure. czcams.com/video/-rphMwxTr54/video.html

Thx
No problem
Does the lock feature on the app supposed to turn the brakes on the scooter, or just beep? Because it just beeps
Lock feature just makes it harder to push, I don't know if the brakes are on or if it's using the Regen brakes on max.
I'm put 3 different locks and a kill switch, for grocery shopping
That sounds like a great idea!
Yeah, its jus to buy time thats really the goal here, nothing is going to stop them if they have the right gear
Yup, that's all it really comes down to and also if yours is more secure than someone else's. I feel like they will go for the easier one to steal.
1:18 yeah it's "reasonably" safe.
As "opposed" to just leaving it "bricked" which is what I've seen at my "school." That's like leaving a car "unlocked" and the keys "visibly" inside of it imo.
I'm not very "security-minded," In fact, I often choose to cringe at how seriously some people choose to take it sometimes, but there should be *something* so that someone couldn't just easily just pick it up and take it as if it were "me"/"you" taking it! I feel like not doing that is "irresponsible."
And even if it's "bricked" there's still, I don't know, $100-200 worth of "motor" and "batteries" in a "normally priced" $400 scooter.
Unfortunately, there’s not a good option for that other than locking it up and even in that case it’s not fully secure
Hiplok sell a anti Angle grinder lock that would be a good replacement for that U lock. Most U locks are not rated against angle grinders. Fact.
Good to know, thanks!
How long is that U-lock and the cable?
According to Amazon: Interior Locking Dimensions; 4" x 9" Cable Length; 4"
Just wondering does these escooters come with a key like some ebikes. If they get stolen you'll still need a key to start
The more expensive ones need a key like the Apollo Phantom. The normal ones like the ninebot max, inmotion L9, Hiboy Titan, etc.. don't need a key to ride
Just be careful with your scooter guy’s especially expensive e-scooter, those people that are target scooter, they go around with the tools. They stole my Segway-Ninebot exactly like the one on this video, in central London Trafalgar Square. I locked tight to bike rack in front of camera, can’t take it inside the Nigeria embassy due to various process have to go through inside. When I came out of the embassy my scooter is gone, they cut the lock with the right tools, it wouldn’t take them 2 minutes. Then I went and report to the police station, they said oh that bikes rack are not met for scooter to be secure and just put my name on their computer also reported to Segway-Ninebot service help line, they said sorry they can’t track and trace upon register it with the app. So £729.99 just be stolen.
Sorry to hear that
Exactly same happened to me, less than 2min cut off my Kryptonite lock (NYC Manhattan around 2pm on fifth avenue), recorded one of the near by security camera, probably 1000 people around, they didn’t care. Police reports filed and been told “sorry we don’t look for electric scooters and bicycles” my Segway ninebot F65 gone less than 2 weeks old and another $800 down the drain. Be careful!
Do you know if a eway-3045 e-scooter will be able to be tuned from 20km/h to 25km/t without hurting/destroying the battery??
Idk
What’s the phone holder you used on it?
Phone Mount: amzn.to/2PivNQs
you seem like the glass is half empty kind of guy; that's a decent lock setup. With all of those redundancies I'm sure you'd hear powertools whirring away before they stole your scooter, although you're not complacent which is good too. So many clever thieves around now.
I try to take the scooter with me.l but this should deter some thieves
Is that cable long enough for the
Segway none ot max g2 model?
How ya gonna get the cable past the suspension? I don't see any space on mine to do this
What is the exact model of that lock I have the nine box but accidentally bought a bike lock and it doesn't fit around the stem
I placed the link in the description section, this one is an older version that’s been replaced but the size should be the same.
flux cable or flex cable? also can you send a link where to buy it?
Kryptonite U Lock: amzn.to/3u6e0KZ
I also usually leave the links in the description section
just got one and when I use the lock in the app I cant turn the power of the scooter off. Am i missing something?
Looks like it's like that now. I just tried it the other day, someone else had a similar question
I was thinking if I went into a grocery store, put the scooter underneath the the basket cart.
that's not a bad idea, didn't think of that. I just walk with it lol
That’s exactly what I do 😂
I put the basket on the deck in the supermarket.
Love how he tells the thieves hey come steel our scooters just bring a grinder what a Chump
My goal is that this lock or really no lock will not stop an angle grinder. I’m pretty sure thieves know about these tools already.
Just a heads up, that type of U lock got snipped by bolt cutters (or something). It happened right behind a NYC courthouse... smh
It’s possible with the huge bolt cutters I would imagine, nothing is full proof, it’s really just a deterrent that’s why I do like to take my scooter with me if possible.
@@landpet that’s my thought, if someone is going to go through the trouble of getting giant bolt cutters then there probably wasn’t much that was going to stop them from stealing it. But for an everyday thief that would just take it and ride off then this works.
I was planning on taking my scooter to San Francisco and was going to leave the scooter unattended for a few hours while I go to Alcatraz. It starting to sound like not such a good idea even with a lock.
It's always best to avoid it if possible.
@@landpet do you think there's an issue leaving it where there is heavy foot traffic?
How safe is it to lock up your scooter in app alone? Has anyone got their scooters taken while app-locked?As the mall i visit has no pole, rack to secure scooters at all.....
Depends where it is but I don’t trust just app personally
Still scared to left scooter alone 😅
Yup still get worried but so far so good, knock on wood
How long is that lock?
I have the link to the newer version in the description section. Mine has been replaced
How many cm should the lock have at least ?
This one works fine, I have a link to it in the description section, you can possibly go smaller than this as well but I like this size.
My max g30 was stolen with a u lock like this, but no cable. They disassembled the steering column and passed the lock around that way.
Sorry to hear that
Yeah something to keep in mind with the locks is whether your scooter can just be dismantled to remove the lock by unscrewing a few screws. If that is the case you just have to factor that in to how securely locked the scooter really is and perhaps not bother with the most expensive locks if nobody in their right mind is going to try to destroy them anyway when there is the easy way.
Use a handcuff-style lock around the neck of the scooter which can secure far narrower than a U-lock and then you could place a much narrower U-lock than your previous one such as a Seatylock Mason U-lock underneath it to prevent thefts such as this one. That way, you just got yourself 2 strong locks to secure your scooter, both requiring angle grinders to remove them.
What is the name that locks?
It’s in the description section with a link to Amazon if you’re interested but it’s called kryptonite
How do you bring it with you?
Typically through it in my small backpack.
What size is the u lock
I have the link in the description section, should have the dimensions, this one has been replaced with a newer variant.
So how do you carry this lock on the scooter?
Backpack when I do
is it 8 cm lenght?
Almost 23cm for the new one, link is in the description
Where can I buy pink wheel?
It was a limited edition, 1,000 were made and sold only at IndieGoGo. They don't make it anymore, just a heads up it's just a sticker though. Try ebay or something like that.
landpet thx
@@vojtechpodlipsky4647 np
The scooter is useless without the users password, or maybe there is a way to hack the scooter, however, a thief will try to sell it off anyways to someone who doesn't know about the scooter having the password lock from the app ripping them off as well.
I haven't tried it but there is a reset procedure. I wonder if that will reset it.
@@landpet yes. Reset it will erase all setting and password.
All anglegrinders have cables so how could anyone just bring one to steal a e scooter or e bike etc.
They have battery variants of angle grinders.
i tried locking my scooter on the app but it won’t let me turn off the scooter ☹️
I can't remember if that's how it works or not. I don't use the lock feature, I usually take it with me or use this actual lock
How do you carry groceries on it?
Backpack usually and sometimes a bag hanging in one side of the handlebar which makes it harder to ride so I don’t recommend the bag.
@@landpet been there,done that haha
I got a Niu kqi3 Pro and I love it but I'm paranoid leaving it out. I wish there was a way to strap the whole scooter to my back to carry it with me lol
lol, I really like the NIU KQi3 Pro as well.
The cable contributed nothing to the security of your scooter !
I mentioned all I really need to do is the u lock. I also mentioned that the cable doesn't do much. The reason I showed the cable is more for appearance from a distance for deterrence in my case with my scooter and makes the U lock less movable (not that it was going anywhere to begin with). If you're scooter has a wider wheel opening, you could pass it through the wheel. Again not doing much but worth a mention.
@alanjackson...the moment I saw what he did with the cable I immediately thought the exact same thing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Secondly, All he essentially did by attaching the cable was help a thief with an angle grinder be able to cut his U-lock more easily since the U lock will stay more stable and not move around as much during the grinding process....🤷🏽♂️
Locks aren't safe buddy, the lockpickinglawyer video exposes those locks
Yup, I do mention that in the video but better than nothing
What else do you do, bolt the thing secure? 😂
The forgetaaboutit New York mini edition Kryptonite lock has done the best in his videos! Obviously he still picked it but it’s a very hard lock to pick for an armature-medium skilled picker. You must have a special pick and know the lock very well.
The New York yellow lock I am referring to has been the best lock for my ninebot
What's the point of adding the second one through the rear wheel and putting it through the first one? Once they have cut the main one the second one just slides off anyway so thieves just need to cut once. Adding a lock to the second one would take them longer. After all. No lock it 100% safe. It's all about making it harder for thieves, And harder means more time. So hopefully they will look at someones else's scooter with just one easy lock at will take them less time and not yours.
Reason one is what you mentioned, it looks more locked. Reason two is that the second lock limits how much you can move the main u lock, so there is no way they can just slide out the u lock even if they took off the front tire (which would take some time). At the end of the day, none of this matters if someone shows up with an angle grinder. Lots of noise, sparks for 10 seconds and that’s it.
@@landpet Two U-locks would make noise for 20 seconds then. Seconds count if you don’t want too much attention.
I think this scooter is just like the max not exactly still good price!
Yup, this scooter is the ninebot max. It's the limited edition pink version (1,000 made) when it was first released.
Will my scooter still work if my phone’s battery runs dead while I’m riding?
Yes, I just answered your other comment but heres a copy paste either way:
Yes, you only need the app at the beginning to go through the safety instructions which will stop the beeping sound. After that, you don't need your phone at all to ride it. The app becomes optional after initial setup
⛔ Not good : Remove the front parts (wheel and handlebar), rotate the u-lock vertically and the scooter is gone...
.
At least make sure to let as little free room as possible.
Better get a handcuff lock (the frame is smaller than the scooter's frame).
Yes, I agree but I have a faster solution, 10 seconds with an angle grinder, possibly less. There’s pretty much nothing you can do to keep this thing from being stolen if someone with a few tools wants to steal it. This is a simple solution that deters most people from stealing it but again if they want it stolen, it will be stolen regardless of how anyone ties it.
It is much more discrete to teardown a kickscooter with L keys than using an angle grinder (which takes actually closer to 30-60 seconds to achieve it). So it is not really comparable.
@@firestone34 I definitely agree on the discreteness of it but still can't do it in public without getting some extra looks. The main point is, anything can be stolen. I definitely don't recommend keeping it locked overnight, I'm basically saying if you're not allowed to take the scooter inside and have to leave it outside, this is an effective solution, it's certainly not perfect but nothing really is.
Discreetness-
if you want to, you can steal it anyway. This is just a deterrent.
Do i need a drivers license for riding electric scooter?
I don't believe so but that's something you would need to check with your local laws.
Bro, a locksmith opens that in 20 sec max.
Having seen what the lockpicking lawyer does, pulling out the angle grinder definitely isn’t the easiest way to steal this, I can’t trust any lock anymore, especially bicycle locks and the likes…
Not every thief is the lockpicking lawyer though.
lmao do you carry all those locks everywhere with you ? why not just carry 20 packs o cement and build bunkers everytime you go to nearest starbucks
Only when I need to lock it up
Just took my new E scooter for quick spin dogge C are already eyeing it off ,here to see if this U lock is good option
taking it with you is always preferred but this is an alternative, granted I don't recommend leaving your scooter unattended for long periods of time. At the end of the day, a battery powered angle grinder will go through this thing like butter.
