Those dialogs between Woody and Diane's characters are terrific fun! Especially Diane's pseudo-intellectual thrashing of Woody's favorite stuff, that's something else.
"They probably sit on the floor with wine and cheese and mispronounce allegorical and didacticism"... Too funny! An absolutely brilliant film, one I never and will never tire of.
People really hate woody but his writing is very exciting when you start learning more about the great thinkers of the past. All of the sudden jokes that made no sense years ago make me laugh out loud. If my dad hadn’t showed me his films early I probably wouldn’t care, but going from the lower class to a big liberal arts school will help you appreciate his parody of social circles like this.
Diane Keaton was the most naturalistic actress, the way that she just plays a character but plays herself is absolutely amazing, i mean Allen did the same thing
Perchè tradurre e non mettere le parolacce? Persino nella versione doppiata "bullshit" è tradotto correttamente con "stronzate". Chi le fa ste traduzioni, Mary Poppins?
I was a teen when I saw the movie and didn’t fully grasp the implications of the relationship but I’m disgusted by it and how all the characters wander about and act like this is normal. I find a lot of Allen’s films brilliant as is his writing but am repulsed by his personal life. Manhattan and some of his other work seems to want to be subversive to our sensibilities.
In New York the age of consent is 17 for some reason. I only know this because I was looking up James Franco yesterday and that fact came up. But yes still creepy and something that should be commented on.
"The Academy Of The Overrated". I'd put Joy Division in there. They've got several super tunes, but the suicide of the lead singer has cultivated a bullshit mystique about the group. Even Joy Division didn't really rate themselves.
The confrontation between Allen and Keaton about Ingmar Bergman is just amazing

No director in Hollywood made Diane more comfortable in front of a camera than Woody.

This is great. I know many disagree with me, but I think this film is wittier and better written than Annie Hall.
Christopher Thorkon Agreed! It's a masterpiece...
Easily Woody Allen's best film.
oh god, it is objectively far better than annie hall
Significantly better than Annie Hall.
Better dialogues fa sho but annie hall has way more memorable and fun moments
So good...
La difficoltà ( a volte l'impossibilità) di essere se stessi. Molto triste
I liked the steel cube.
Me when someone doesn't like (or even know) Bergman!
2:59 - She didn’t say “Kierkegaard” with authentic Danish pronunciation; what a philistine 😏
She also mispronounced Nabokov
@@mywhychromosome No, she didn’t.
@@slide4180 it's "na-buh-kov", is it not? She says "nuh-BOH-kov"
@@slide4180 I think that's the whole point, the same way she says Van "Gach"
@@mywhychromosome The Russian pronunciation is Na BOK ov. English speakers naturally want to say NA bok ov.
"Mired in 30's radicalism"
Van Goch
Like an Arab she spoke

Woody embracing MONOGAMY and CATHOLICISM!
ARE WE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE 16 YEAR OLD HE IS HOLDING HANDS WITH? GOOD FILM THOUGH.
Franz Haas she’s 17, and they address it in the film, in this scene actually.
I'm the same age as Mariel and when this film first came out I could not see how she could beat to kiss him. Yuck

Woody obviously never watched Tom and Jerry.
