    The pinnacle of the Miata was the MX-5 Mazdaspeed which was a 2nd version of the NB that had 143 horsepower stock, but added a factory turbo that brought it over 170hp.

    I had a 2000. Bought new. Miss that car. Had I known that cars would be turning into iPads on wheels, I would have put it into storage and saved it. Fantastic tactile feel. Even trips to the grocery store were fun, even though I had to put bags on the passenger seat when the trunk was full. It also handled high speeds very well. Go at 90 and the car feels stuck to the road and stable. Personally, I also think this was the best looking of the Miata series.

    I owned a 1990 NA and a 2001 NB. They were my “nice” car so I had beaters as dailies. My “nice” car now is a 2019 4Runner. In 2022 I acquired a 2007 NC Grand Touring, one owner and always dealer serviced. It had 270,000 miles on it! It’s soon 290,000. It is my beater and I like it way better than the NA or NB! Terrific bang for the buck!

    Had 2 99's. They weighed in a just over 1000kg. The 2000 version had added safety construction, which brought the weight up by about 250kg, which kinda ruined it.
    143hp with only 1000kg means a LOT if fun.

    I had a 2002 NB Miata and loved it. I ran autocross and a couple of track days with it, and many twisty roads. I would joke with people that I "get in" other cars, but I "put on" the Miata. It responds like no other car I've owned, like it's part of you. I went on several long trips with it and had no problems with comfort. The trunk is big enough for quite a bit of stuff if you pack it right. Mine had the "tupperware" trim on it also.

    With a foamectomy i fit in it fine at 6ft. Plenty of room for me. I do find that my feet cramp up on long drives. Something to do with how low i sit makes the pedal placement uncomfortable, and if i sit upright then i don't fit. For $2500 that i paid it's hard to imagine there's anything more fun out there.

    • @markcoopers1930
      @markcoopers1930 Před 6 měsíci

      I fit in perfectly in the ND at 5'10 without seat mods: comfortably, good visibility & headroom, legs have just enough room to where they never make contact with anything while working the pedals. Because I don't make contact the drivers side feels weirdly just as spacious as my Mazda3's. The NA felt only slightly smaller, I was still comfortable. I might find the NB and NC downright roomy
      My buddy who's 5'9" but longer legs doesn't have room under the wheel, and my brother who's 6'2" has enough leg room but is fully touching the roof and when the top is down his eyes are at the level of the windshield bar.
      But the passenger side is definitely smaller and I do feel cramped. So I only date shorter ladies. Sorry WNBA stars, I'm swiping left 😂.

    The NB is personally my favorite! Has the look that's just nice, a tad bit more room & nicer interior AND IF 1 is So inclined could squeeze an LS3 in, I know a fella who has done it! I mean if you have to Overcompensate. That's way more unique than a dumb truck w/MASSIVE tires that ONLY EVER Goes to Whole Paycheck for Bad Sushi bc it's too afraid of getting some scratchies. But I digress. & 1 of my exes who was 6'4 skinny but 6'4 daily'd both his NA & NB! I love the special edition yellow mica 2002. Tho my Daimler is getting a LS7 as I type I wouldn't feel the need to change a Miata's cuteness.

    • @jedironin380
      @jedironin380 Před 6 měsíci

      V8Roadsters does V8 installs for Miatas and a few other cars. Funny thing, removing the iron-block 4-cyl. and adding the aluminum-block LS motor only adds a couple hundred pounds to the car, and with the install kits it keeps the weight nearly 50-50 front/rear! I always wanted to do that to mine, but didn't. I should have!

  • @PortersGarage
    @PortersGarage Před 6 měsíci

    I’m 6ft and found the NB to be harder to fit in than the NA I owned. When I had my 91 I did the foamectomy and gas pedal mod to make it even easier to fit. Still crazy how much those prices shot up, when I bought my 91 it was a clean 5spd model with 48k miles and factory hardtop for $3800. Since then that car has sold twice for over $10k each time.

Still comfortable for me to drive. 5 speed is the only way to go. The optional hard top is a nice thing to have, if you can find one. The NB's are actually in high demand. Especially the special editions. My shop deals almost exclusively with Miatas. If you buy that car, let me know if you need anything. I have two shipping containers filled with Miata parts. I have over a dozen Miata parts cars and actually manufacture some suspension parts. The guy that owns the shop actually knows pretty much everything about Miatas. The owner drives an NB in the NMCA West autocross series and he regularly sets fast time of the day against cars with 800+ hp. Anyways... People underestimate the effect of mass. A lot of the "feel" of a car is the instant response that can't really be timed or quantified. So even if 0-60 is slow, the change in momentum (~0-1 mph) feels very fast in these cars because of their low mass. The fast but controlled responsiveness is what makes Miatas more than the numbers can illustrate. Additionally, you are so connected to the car and so low to the ground that 30mph in a Miata feels like 60mph in a normal sized sports car.
    For what it's worth, the NCs are about 100 lbs heavier than the latest NBs, so the weight difference is almost negligible. They have a lot more power, and a superior chassis to more than make up for it. On top of that, the NC is the only version many people can fit in and the interior is a significant update from the previous versions.

I can take my Miata up and down canyon runs for an hour and back home burning up 3-4 gallons of fuel. That’s the beauty of these cars, just pure driving joy especially with the top down. I'm 5'10 and with the seat "all the way back" I fit perfectly in the driver's seat of my ND. No visibility issues, ergonomics are good, legs have plenty of room to work the pedals and shifter is well placed. Don't feel cramped, actually feels pretty similar to my Mazda 3. The slightly smaller passenger side is uncomfortably cramped though, so it's really a car where every fraction of an inch makes a difference.
      When I drove my buddies' NA it was pretty similar, although my elbows had slightly less room.
      My buddy who is 5'9 but with longer legs has trouble working the pedals, and my brother who is 6' 2" can work the pedals but as that same issue with the windshield frame. And he can't sit in it with the top up.

      You'll have to modify the seats. It's kind of a lost cause after 6'3 though.

    Better engine, better transmission, better diff, better, better suspensión, better brakes, more trunk space, more cabin space, a rear defroster, and a cheaper price ? Of course the NB miata its the way to go because NA its less car for more money, NC is big, heavy and ugly and ND its still not at “project car budget”

    Yes the American government mandated that all vehicles with pop up headlights be eliminated due to pedestrian safety crashes,that will reduce injuries.

      That's a misconception, to this day pop-up headlights are not banned in the US on new vehicles. They are in Europe.
      In the early '90s the rules regarding headlight design having to be round or square in the US expired, and a bunch of companies started designing a bunch of weird, strange headlights. Regulators didn't know what to do and feared what companies were going to bring to the market so they made a Hasty reactionary decision. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Standard No. 108, which just states that lights must remain open if there were issues or faults.
      While this does make it more difficult and more complex to engineer pop-up headlights into cars, it's by no means impossible. It was European traffic agencies that effectively banned pop-up headlights due to crash restrictions. Combine that with the additional engineering cost to meet the US rule and the objective hindrance that pop up headlights have on aerodynamics, and US companies decided to just not proceed. Today. It's no issue to have headlights, high beams, indicators, and daytime running lights all in one housing. Even though it's cool, pop up headlights will likely never return, and if it does, it will be in markets that don't have terribly high speed limits or lots of highways where aerodynamics make a huge impact.

    Buy a car that fits. It’s not for beefy, 6’+ . It’s not a commuter car and enough with the LS swap talk. Buy the car for what it is and enjoy.

    The NA has pop up headlights

    Gen 3 is the one I'd get. It doesn't have the classic shape of the original, but it looks more athletic (to me) than the 2nd generation. The 4th generation is simply not attractive.

    Cool car but are they really still $5000? The last couple of times I checked out the prices for these and other Miatas, they have been shockingly high, towards $10k. They are good, but not that good.

      Don't rope all the viewers into your rude comment. We wish them all and well and good health but we're not their doctor. We aren't seeing their blood work or physical results. Who are you to make comments without any context, to diagnose from a CZcams video? Get down from that horse, it's a long fall.
