At sea level, both cars are about 2 seconds faster than the numbers recorded here (there are a bunch of 1/4 mile tests out there…Google them…mid 14s is normal). EV’s don’t burn oxygen and are unaffected by altitude. So the Mini was at a definite advantage here (certainly not the underdog). I always get a chuckle about pricing on mini outside of the US these things are massively expensive. The difference between the gr86 and the mini is $12k with no options here. (mx-5 historically is not cheap) Plus there is the fact the mini is a BMW so lots of expensive plastic parts that degrade quickly and the Mazda and Toyota are in a different league of reliability. The upside is the mini you can driver in snow as long as it is not too deep and not that cold out as ev's hate cold.

Huge for drag racing, but not so huge if it's costing me extra $30k to get GR86. I'm going to have to see how well GR86 does at the local racetrack (TMP). But, I suspect it'll be similar to the old BRZ/86 that are tuned, Which is similar to my Civic... I love the way GR86 feels and drive, but also love the way my Civic feels and drives... As a current NA owner and previous BRZ owner, I’m watching that Mini EV thinking “hmm…”. Honestly, as an EV I guess I was expecting a lot more - not Tesla Plaid fast, but “faster than a Miata in a drag race” is pretty weak bragging rights.
Then to hear the low range and low top speed… yeah, not the car for me. EV hot hatch for $30k sounds good otherwise.

Haha 🤣! I’m just laughing so hard about Nathan in the Miata. I’m about his size and even taller. I’m 6’4” and about 260. Those are some small cars and just not meant for guys like us. I’m not making fun of Nathan, just someone our size squeezing in that little Miata. I think I told the story of myself in a Miata or Honda S2000 and couldn’t even close the door. Then I had to literally crawl out of it lol. I’m like 20 seconds in and it’s already a great video. Nathan always has great luck with the drag races (just wait until drag race is no longer politically correct haha 😆) and be usually picks the winning vehicle.
