I'm a single mom and its very difficult, my son father died when he was a baby. My son is now 18 and hurts and cried in my arms expressing his need for a father. I'm looking for a male mentor for him.

      Says every single mom.
Now, in your case, you didn't divorce your husband or he wasn't a deadbeat loser, but most dudes still won't want to be a pseudo-daddy. And those dudes who do......probably aren't gonna be dudes with a high self-esteem. I'm assuming you are a Western female.
Not only that, your son is now 18. Isn't it a bit too late to get a daddy now? The years are already gone and he is an adult now. He needs to be his own daddy, so to speak.
If all he needs is some mentor, that's what coaches are for. Male teachers, pastors, etc.

Okay. So the 1st lady is a successful lawyer because she had the time to put into her career. Once she had a child (on her own), she’s not going to have that time to put into her child without help, that’s where the father is extremely useful. She THINKS that she will be able to maintain her current career momentum as a single parent, and from my understanding of American work culture, that’s not going to be an easy task. She needs to think this through more practically

I’m a single Mum (not by choice) & it’s tough. Childcare is expensive & totally defeats the purpose of working full time. I gave up my job/career for a few years just to raise & spend time with my daughter.. because the early years are crucial to development. She needs to think things through, it’s definitely not a walk in the park contrary to what people with no kids think. It’s totally worth the sacrifices you make though but don’t go into having children with one eye open the other closed, your tricking yourself & will be worse off for it otherwise!

Children are financially, emotionally and mentally draining for someone to want to voluntarily go that route. You don't have someone to share the burden nor the discipline with. Speaking from experience and I'm glad my parents are around to snatch up their grandchild, or my brother who would just come and take him. Omg. This is selfish.. go for it? So purposely bring a child into this world without a father? That can be extremely destructive.... do you see how some fatherless children sre more susceptible to self esteem issues, going down the wrong path and in general just not having proper male guidance can have a huge impact on a young man bc they don’t have someone of the same sex to look to for a role model and how to become a man. A girl without a father can have extreme issues with male relationships bc they didn’t have a proper example of how a man should treat a woman, and in general a fathers love is so so important to young girls. Ofc they can possibly have male role models outside of their father but it isn’t the same. They may just resent them/ their mom

Your mom was exceptional I’m sure of that, however, despite what you may think- people need fathers. Statistics across the board show the worst outcomes for children coming from single parent homes. It doesn’t mean that ALL children who come from these homes are messed up, but statistically speaking 90% of prison inmates for example didn’t have fathers, most single teenage moms, didn’t have fathers.
a general life rule (whether your religious or not) that I’ve always applied, is “what it takes to create, is what it requires to sustain”. So it takes two (male and female) to create, it takes two (mother and father) to raise and sustain. You get thirsty? There’s water to quench that, now you may have some soda, but as much as soda quenched your thirst, what you needed was water.

That is what I am going through now, not having your dad your mum dies when you are 7yrs and you don't know any relative around and you are in a 3rd world country it was tough for me I am turning 25 but still looking for my dad is feel there are a lot I need to learn from him. There are many reasons why both parents should raise a child
