I wish I had a million likes for this video. There will come a day - mark my words - there will come a day where AJ will appreciate just how fabulous his mama and his grandmama are... My Dad was also country - and what I know to be a certain fact is that country folks are some of the most down to earth, authentic, vibrant, charming, sweet-spirited, and socially jovial people, that are a true blessing just to know.
It's funny because - while i'm sure AJ is a sweet young man, he reminds me an awful lot of myself back when I was a young and sassy little lass - who was also always feeling embarrassed over my Dad's deep rooted southern ways.
But, I sit here now as a 38 year old woman with kiddo's of my own - and what I would give to have my dad here with me again, just one more time so that I can tell him how much I love him, how truly indispensable he was to me, and how grateful I am for the incredible father he was.
Unfortunately, it's hard to see things for what they truly are when you're young and everything and everyone seems to be invincible. All too often, it's not until we lose someone who you dearly love, where we can really begin to appreciate our loved ones for what and who they are. It can make all that country weirdness go from embarrassing to endearing in two seconds flat. While my Dad certainly knew how much I loved him dearly, I just wish that I had treated him with more compassion and appreciation than I did. I pray to God every day that he knew.
Kelley Broussard Mackaig bless your heart, that kiddo of yours will grow up with the same love your daddy gave you and he'll turn up as beautiful of a person as your dad was. It's not over, even when they are not here anymore, you can still do them good. Carry yourself forward as the woman he raised up and pass it forward it forward to your son.
