- How to improve your lock picking skills, step-by-step, using widely available commercial locks. Rather than approach lock picking nilly-willy, and attempting to pick locks that are WAAAYYY beyond your abilities, understand which locks are "easy" and which contain anti-picking measures.

thanks bill nice work i'm not all that good at lock picking i'm getting better by the day but i'm really good in the hacking department it would not have taken me long to get the password haha thanks for shearing your knowledge mate i've watch many of your's and lock picking lawyers videos can't wait until i'm as good as you guys..
The link seems to be dead
@@Corn0nTheCobb yeah, and I was pretty hopeful. Should be able search for it. Find it and post a link and I'll race you to it. One of us has to get lucky
I'm a beginner, and I'm shocked at how damn addicting it is. It feels sooo good when you that tension wrench starts to give, and the lock pops open.
ikr
+Geoffrey Zoref I was lock picking while watching this video and got my first success, it really is fun.
+Geoffrey Zoref I'm using paper clips. :)
When I started I got a Master No.3 that I fought with for most of a week (I've since figured out that it's significantly harder than other Master No.3s for some reason, probably the wacky bitting). When I got it opened finally I literally jumped for joy. It wasn't the first lock I'd opened, but I'd been fighting it for so long that it was a real accomplishment.
Ok i have a master 140 i can literally rake it open in seconds so they must not use security pins anymore
No, all locks can be defeated. All we can hope for is to delay a criminal with a good quality lock. I'd recommend any lock made by Medeco or Mul-t-lock. Yes, they can be picked but only by a very few people and it takes a lot of time.

That moment when you see your house type of lock in Bill's training bucket 0_0
lol
Whats your address ? 😈
Hey, Bill, thank you. Your informative videos have taught me enough to impress my new boss during the interview. I’ve been down on my luck for almost a year now. Jobless, no one giving me a chance. Your videos taught me how to get started in this and now I’m training as a locksmith with a job. Just, you know, thanks.
Just watched LPL's video about your retirement and came right over. Just wanted to say that this video is what jump started me in the world of lockpicking. I can't say I'm any better now than I was then, but the experience and getting to be taught by you along the way has been incredible.
Thank you for all the time and effort you put in so we (I) could learn and have fun together.
Best wishes to you in your retirement!
I am a locksmith out of central Illinois. I absolutely agree about the adrenaline rush after I pick a lock open. I am always looking to improve my skills. Being a woman, I get a lot more pressure than any of the other men that do locksmithing around here. Anyhow, I was looking at your lubes and I noticed that you do not have Houdini. I get mine through US Lock and it is AMAZING! (Even smells like citrus) It doesn't have any Teflon, silicone, oil, grease, etc. Not sure what is in it, but I have used it for over 20 years and it is superb when it comes to lubes. Just letting everyone know. Happy picking ya'll!
Is it good money
Hey Bill. I'm relatively new to lockpicking, and only really started a few weeks ago when my "Ultimate Adversary" practice lock arrived. I watched quite a few of your videos beforehand, as well as a handful of others, and I feel that having learned the theory behind picking has given me a bit of a boost.
So a while back, I was rooting around my house for a spare lock to practice on, and found an Abus N 65/40 floating around. I did some research in to the lock, and found out that this lock is meant to have a considerable amount of security pins in it, so I set it aside until my practice set came.
After a few days of picking on various pinouts in the practice lock, I felt it was a good idea to try out the Abus lock that I found (I'd given up before due to a really restricted keyway, and I could barely get good tension), and to my surprise, was able to open it given some time. Fast forward a few days and I was able to open it in about 30 seconds.
Firstly, I'd like to thank you for your excellent video's, and let you know that you do a great job documenting your endeavours, and are a great service to those of us who lack as much experience. Just through watching your videos that I've increased my knowledge of how locks work, and how best to pick them.
Secondly, I'd like to ask, what exactly makes for a challenging pin configuration? I was surprised that despite what I read on forums and other boards about the 65/40 being challenging, that I could open it with relative ease. How long would one expect to have to practice before attempting Abus locks, and do you have any advice on how to pin out my practice lock in order to get better?
Thanks for your time,
TheBeanhacker.
I'm 50 seconds in and I swear to God if the secret is to practice I'm shooting a baby doll
FBL GRAY
Lock n load boi
I'm sure god would be ok with it, if you had good reason, he's a pretty wacky gawd, wait which god?
I just went through 3 hours of picking my first lock and I already knew what was on the back of that card hahaha
rip
welp bye baby doll
As a noob to lock picking, I'm still waiting on my first set of picks to come in from Amazon, I can already tell that this is a video that I will be re-watching many times over when I get frustrated learning new skills. Thank you for the sage advice. I'm a fully disabled Veteran looking for a new hobby to fill my waking hours and I believe that I have found it. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. And, as always, Semper Fi !!
I'm looking into maybe getting some decent picks as well. Looks pretty fun and might come in handy. Will probably just end up in my car tool box for emergencies or something. Anywho, God bless you in the name of Jesus Christ. Thanks for your service.
First, Thank you for your service and sacrifice! So it's two years later and how have you progressed? I'm just beginning to pick. Great for dexterity and feel. I have limited hand strength and function due to an MVA many years ago.
And you be carrying a lock and picks around so when you have extra time you can pick fir extra practice
Thank you for your service. I just started a few months ago. I've got the multipick 39 piece set and the covert companion, and the biggest bump key set I could find. I've been able to help three people out at work so far and gain access to two properties where my plumbing shop had permission for me to try to gain access. It's a wonderfully hobby and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
'Stay safe and stay legal.'
I love that so much
i just start lockpick as hobby about a week ago i lock pick old home door key 5 all STD pins, then i want to try something difficult after 3days, and i bought American 5200 and he was hell difficult for me but i keep trying 4 days and now i can pick him within 5mins !

Akiha Motors I picked a series 600 American hardened lock
Akiha Motors you should take up an english grammar class as a hobby
i can do a house door (mine lol) in 38 seconds
Oh no. I am not safe anymore XD
Smart :D
Even after months of picking/ practicing, watching how-to's, reading a lot, etc. Keep coming back to rewatch this video as a great refresher. Appreciate the great work you do Bill.

I like this guy "watch some more videos to learn more about a specific lock" I watch CZcams too much and sometimes I need ideas, and this is a great one. No joke this guy has good ideas and a way of thinking that teaches more than others
I've just started lockpicking. It's surprising how easy you make it look, even the number 3 masterlock is stumping me and its the joke of your channel! I intend to keep practicing and I would to thank you for making such informative videos. Cheers
Even tho there was barely any picking in this video, I have to say it was the most informative and helpful video I’ve watched on lock picking I’ve seen so far. The resources alone in the description is a gold mine.
I started watching you because I play video games that include a lot of lock picking. So I was interested in the real thing. So I watch quite a few videos before I decided to get a cheap pick set with a see-through lock for practice which finally arrived today. I practiced quite a bit on the see through but I had an old master lock that I had been saving for my first real lock picking. I was having trouble so I came here to see what you say and I was about to give up because you said not to waste time on possibly broken old locks...then it unlocked and I nearly shit myself... Thank you! I have a new hobby and I promise to keep it legal!!

you are a great teacher, I could listen to you talking about lockpicking for hours
Level Up! Lockpicking increased to 75.
Probably been done already but what the hell!
Out of all the lockpicking videos out there I always choose yours, something about the way you talk or explain things just makes it way easier for me to get than any of the other youtubers. Thanks for the videos man keep it up.
Bill was the reason I got into lock sport years ago. Enjoy your life and cherish you family. Thank you for everything you taught me. You'll be missed.
I simply read Tumblers Today and I became a lock pick master
Thank you, Bill, for all your hard work over the years. You’ve taught me loads. Thank you, kindly. Good luck on your future endeavours. 🔐
Just learned that you retired. Although I never really picked a ton of locks, your vids were very interesting to me and they have provided me with a plethora of knowledge and understanding of how locks work. I wish you well on your next ventures. Enjoy your time and your loved ones. Thank you for the entertainment.
Dear Bill,
I actually stopped watching this video to read the PDF... holy moly was it good! As a rookie its shocking how much more force it takes to set a binding pin than to move a loose one. Also a combo of your videos plus the PDF = me realizing every lock has a 'right' tension.
your voice sounds like the battlefield 2 guy that teaches stuff
START FIGHTING OR ILL FIND SOMEONE WHO CANN
Bahahahah xD
Thanks for the encouragement. My first attempt at "raking" was as easy as the videos make it look. Cool.
You sir are my hero. I have had my cheapo Chinese pick set for 15 minutes and I just single pin picked an old Master lock No5 that I had around the house. The keys have been lost for years.
I watched this about a month ago after I’d just gotten my picks. I watched it again tonight and it immediately helped me with my SPP! You outline a great progressive approach to advancing your skills. I’ll be incorporating that into my practice!
WOW- Just got a set of beginner picks and was feeling pretty good about myself after raking a Master open in under a minute on my first try. Did that a few times, failed on an Brinks disc then came back to the Master. While watching you in the first few minutes of this video, I picked the Master again one pin at a time. I know for a pro that's not much of an achivement but I've never done this before. What a rush. Thanks!
I really need to get back to work...
I truly wish you the best Bill! You are a great teacher. This video gave me a great start on sport picking. Other lock pick you-tubers just want people to see how quickly they can open locks.
I just got into picking a few days ago. It really is a rush picking a lock. Ive been watching your videos fow a few years off and on bosnian. Ive learned alot so far,and looking forward to learn even more and pick harder locks.
Thanks for sharing the info on that overkill guide :D I found it really useful and the guy had a great sense of humor xD This is the second of your videos I've watched and enjoyed both :)
17 minutes? WTF? Felt like one minute...
"short video"
+bombango lol thats how it feels when u spent ur time efficiently in this case u were learning something important....either all of that or u were abducted by aliens and time froze!!
Thank you, Sir.
@@bosnianbill Thanks for PDF link & password
Thank you for sharing. Your the man! And my lock sport hero
Thank you, for all of the information you have graciously bestowed the community. You are the reason I began picking as a hobby and you will always be my favorite CZcams creator. Thank you for your years of service and entertainment. I know you have more on your plate now and why you have retired, just know that you will be missed. Best to you and yours.
Dear Bill. I just watched the video by The Lockpickinglawyer explaining your recent absence and your retirement. I had been wondering and now I got the answer. He recommended to go find our favourite video and write a comment - but which one should I choose from so many? They are all special. This one have however a special place in my own story of getting into lockpicking. It explains in ways I can understand how to do things and in a way that makes it interesting and funny, it helped me getting my feet wet and build up the skills i have today. Your humour is the best! 😂 It's difficult for me to write something meaningful that can sum up how much your work and your CZcams presence have made an impact on me, but trust me it has. Your calm way of explaining things, your funny humour and your endless knowledge. You will be greatly missed and I will come here to your channel again and again to get my daily dose of funny and professional knowledge. Take care and be well!
best way to get better at lock picking
1) Watch all bosnianbill's videos
2) Get lockpickset
3) Pick Masterlocks cause they suck
4) Profit
I was watching this while I just successfully picked my first lock! I used a bobby pin and a windshield wiper tension wrench
I had to come back to learn about the master 140. Thanks for saving this novice hours of frustration!
Bill,I watched this video for the first time a year ago and between this video, a few others and your enthusiasm for the sport,I ordered my first set of picks. I pulled it up today to copy the link and send to my cousin (who I gifted him his first set for Christmas)... I ended up watching every second again, as enthralled as the first time I viewed.Thank you for the time, enthusiasm, insight and guidance you give us all!
I can imagine the reaction if I asked my local locksmith for old locks, they had a fit when I asked after unkeyed cores for padlocks... Apparently mere mortals are not ready for lock technology, only those who have been anointed as Licensed Locksmiths are worthy.
😂😂 I feel ya there.
How’s your journey through lock picking land? It’s been three years. You get pretty good yet?
I guessed it was PRACICE instantly. I'm a professional musician though so I know this secret well.
Same. Not professional though.
Hey Bill! Just came from the LockPickingLawyer’s video talking about your retirement! This was the video that got me started in this hobby years ago. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge. Cheers, and enjoy what’s important!
I'm not a newbie anymore, but I like to go back and look at this video from time to time. Thanks Bill. I don't care about that "I can't explain how to know or feel the locks", because you did it very good in this one. I am an "old" subscriber and are very happy for your channel. It is really entertaining, inspiring and full of new knowledge for me.
And here I am. A man in Denmark, stuck with nothing but RUKO'S and ABUS'S... maaaaan, it was a hard start in this hobby!
-Lockpicking increased to 18
I'll spend a perk point into novice lockpicking.
Onion Boy
Lockpicking in skyrim is really easy, I never used perk points on that
Can you now pick Master locks?
Artemis Ruelle
I can easily pick Master locks in Skyrim
I have the skeleton key
YEAH.. just picked my first lock. It's a four pin fortress, tiny little thing and I did it with a bent piece of metal and paperclip. I uh, yeah thats not an acomplishment, but hey.
Keith Larsen One of the greatest feeling ever. gj im going to try aswel wish me luck
My first ironically was a master lock 130 it is 4 pin 1 spool I picked it with a slimmed down nail file and a straightened key clip basicly a 3 inch strip of steel about 1 mm wide.
Lunas Eclipse 2 lock i opened was a assa 5 pin and when i got it open i was like holy shieet best feeling ever
my frirst was a master 911
Bought my first set of lock picks as an early self-birthday gift. They came in the mail today, and I took a Tru-Bolt padlock out of my junk drawer and started trying to pick it. I couldn't get the hang of tensioning so I decided to look up videos for help. I was sitting here watching this and picked it open successfully for the first time just as Bill was talking about moving up and down the pin stack.
Thank you for all of your help over the years. We wish you the best in your familial and life pursuits!
Reminds me of the old Joke about the guy asking for directions.. "How do I get to carnegie Hall?" The cab driver says "PRACTICE"!
Yeah I saw that one coming one minute into the video
Stop! You have committed crimes against Skyrim and her people. What say in your defence?
Darth Vader I submit, take me to jail
Darth Vader FUS RO DAH!
Hi Smy I'm the thane of whiterun
I tried to wipe your profile pic off my screen because I thought it was a hair.

MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUS' Ro' Dah!
I can't get enough of this video. I have watched it probably 6 times now. Great job you have helped me to understand the world of lock picking so much with all your wonderful videos such as this one thanks a ton.
Just got my Master Lock 140! First real lock i've picked and got it with in 40 seconds. Opened it many more times so far, sometimes it does take me an upwards of 6+min , so still a very weird feeling lock. Since I've only got youtube videos for learning and this was the first real lock attempt, the practice lock did not do justice because it did not feel or sound like a lock at all. It's amazing to see what you guys say actually map out to a feeling in your fingers or hand.
I'm sorry Bill, but labelling your Marijuana container as "security pins" isn't quite doing the job.
11:35 "I've been picking locks for about a week now." What? Lol
I am confused as well.
I believe it is just an expression
Thanks again Bill. Hope to see you again sometime. You've taught me a lot, and I really appreciate it.
i love mastering locks with my picks and then doing improvised tool picking, one of my favorite challenges!
Bill
Thank you for your videos (and especially the link to Dr. Bint's pamphlet.
ANYONE who comes to this page and reads the comments MUST upload that document!
Question: I have been picking for a couple of weeks and have been pretty successful at repeatedly raking locks (up to a 140).
I am now going to move onto picking, however, I am a visual learner and need to SEE what I'm doing to process it.
What would be your recommendation/opinion for a "trainer" type of clear lock for practice for a beginner.
Thanks again
Thanks Bill for your prompt respone.
I found a relatively cheap ($35) clear lock online. I think that I need to be able to see what I'm doing and it would be a good investment. Also, thanks for your comments on the 140. I seem to be hit or miss on that and the fact that I didn't know it had "difficulties: built in makes me feel a little better. I definitely feel that I'm lucky with that one.
Thanks again, and I hope you will not mind an occasional further inquiry.
You are just to cool,i so much enjoy your videos especially this one. thank you for the breakdown and and getting me to understand where I need to start. a question from my friend John who is sitting next to me is it legal for anybody to own lock picks. I think he's worried about something.

Ordered my first set of picks. Have wanted to know this skill for years. This should be a skill every man should know...
im a beginner and ive been steaming through all the padlocks i can find just using paper clips. first time took me half an hour now im down to less than a minute. i cant wait to get my first proper set. your videos have helped me massively, so thanks!
The secret was macaroni for anyone too lazy to watch till the end
👍
Hi Bill: I cant find "drbint"' anywhere, but did find one by a 'Mike' who uses the handle "Soloman" with the same title you mentioned. Is that the same one? (thanks!)
+bosnianbill thx a.t. found it!
Link pls
@@PratameshMistry you can't be serious? He gives the title of the document. Type it in Google; first result is a page with download link and the password for the file in bold type a little down the page
And yes, that's the guy
I Swear This Was the Most Informative Lock Picking Tutorial Ive Personally Ever Seen (And Ive Seen Them All) pretty much. Great Job Bill
Thanks Bosnianbill for all the knowledge. You made the sport fun for me!
Lockport king skills increased to 5
TheHolyMiner Lockport king?
WHAT happened to the link for Mike Gibson'S 'DRBINT" PAMPHLET ?
i could not find that either. Too bad after all the hype. I did find a PDF with pics called 'Lock Picking Guide' which was helpful. It didn't make me better immediately like stated but it took my frustration away from not finding the other.
You an find it in the "FREE downloads" link, protected with a password that he provides in the download link.
Bill! Happy retirement! i come back to this video often, and will remember your work fondly! Stay safe!
I just recently started watching your videos, and I would never leave your video to go check something out, I value what you have to teach because it's well said and your videos beat the other CZcams videos because you show more intelligence
Piper liked that
Correct: Piper would dislike picking locks. Cait would like it
Picking locks is one of the things you can do to build a relationship with Piper
Preston HATED that
my home door has some kind of security where it .... doesnt let me put my tension tool in
...That's probably a good thing.
true but since theres litle chances annyones gonne pick it it just stops me from practising it atm
+Alex Sander go to your neighbors home
Get a Master padlock, the ones made out of mutiple layers. They are quite cheap.
just now spp'ed my 140. had it for years after dropping the hobby. learning so much from bill. thanks man.
I just wanted to tell you thanks. This is the first and only video I etched learning to lock pick and it was very helpful. I have now picked about 10 different locks. Thank you for inspiring me to buy a pick set.
Skyrim IRL xD
I've been a fan of lock picking for years. I completely understand it in all it's technique but I bought a set of lock picks a few days ago and man it's really hard! It's true that you need hands on practice and not just knowledge.
Got a kit yesterday, pick both locks, a 7pin padlock, and another lock in 15secs, i bought them to learn a new hobby, feel ive learned alot in a short space of time, now contemplating seeing how hard or easy to break into my own house, didnt want to try so early incase i was to unfortunately damage the lock, i believe id do it so easy, have to buy more locks now. Thats me hooked
I do wonder why the hell this is on my recommended videos list
I have tried and tried and I still haven't opened my first lock.
How you doing now?
I opened my 1st brass padlock 40mm yesterday and today opened same lock many times it is a good hobby time flies whilst doing this.
Great video and great tips. Thank you for making it and providing additional resources to look over. I downloaded the pdf and getting ready to start reading it right now!
I skipped till the end to see the secret :D I'm souch a good cheater! :3
It's much easier if you have the perk that allows you to start near the sweet spot for the lock. But you need to level up your lock picking skill to 100 first...
Hello, Bosnianbill: I've purchased the Southord 5-spool-pin clear plastic training lock. At first, it took me 2-hours to pick it. Next day, I can pick it in a few minutes, everytime. I put WD-40 inside it to make it more difficult, and could not pick it at all. I removed the WD-40 by putting the lock inside a cup with rice and placed it on top of my warm ( NOT hot) gas fire. WD-40 all gone! I think, as others in training, I need to take a quality lock apart. EXCELLENT VIDEO! Regards.
OMG! I just picked my first lock! It was a no. 3 Master lock like you recommended. While I didn't SPP it, I did rake it open. I will keep practicing until I can SPP it. A hat tip and a BIG thank you Bosnian Bill!
Skips to the end of the video
join the the club dude
I'm a beginner could u explain a security pin
just watched this and it truly helped me out literally immediately. it was the security pins and how to deal with it first. been stuck on that lock all day so thank you very very much!!
Want to thank you for all the material sources and excellent advice you and the Lawyer put out. I have this American Lock 700 and knowing that it is beyond my ability at present I started trying to pick it. I'm taking the advice on this video because you've earned my trust and gave me confidence to keep trying. The series 700 was not budging, I discovered that I needed a top of the key way tension wrench just as you suggest and advice here. I have been buying Sparrows pickers and other goodies. One was their bypass tool. It was not working, after watching you demonstrate the wafer defeat several times I got the gist of the action. So I went for the top of the key way with my thickest .04 bar, wish I had a .05 one last time. But while picking I began to sense a hint of a false set and it occurred to me to try the Sparrow bypass again. While keeping the tension with the bar after a false set I began to try to feel the inside back of the lock and jiggling and gently turning until the thing clacked open. Wish I had the Peterson bypass, seems more precise in the flag shape you showed, but the Sparrows did it. Will be taking the core to the locksmith for a replacement. Thanks for the date code you shared as well, it was manufactured in XGI. So I figured it ought not have the security wafer and sure enough, it didn't. Now I want to locate your other video where you show how to make these old locks better than they were. Thank you.
now i can finnaly rob a store at night
+Sonny Braem thievery is not the same as burglary though ;)

no I pushed him too far now he hates me ;_;
Hope Bill sees this..... HAPPY RETIREMENT BILL!
Your the one that got me into locksport, going miss you, but I can understand that it's time for you to focus on family.
Hopefully, you'll keep the channel up.
Good luck,and God bless
The more I see such videos, the more I think, "that's really a great hobby". I think I'll give it a try.
Next video: How to recognize silverware..
the master no 5 is 20$ It's not cheap...not to me anyway.
You're not kidding. I'm grabbing one shitty (3.99) lock a week to fuck around on.
Other than that, I only have my apartment door to practice on... Which I don't want to do... Not until I'm about ready to ask the apartment complex to replace my lock for whatever reason
Imagine how light your keychain becomes when all you need to carry is a tension wrench, a hook and a rake :') I love these vids Bill. Thank you so much
I just successfully picked my first lock a few minutes ago and then this video came up in my feed!
It pays to check out these 6-½ y/o videos. After watching a few metric tons of lock picking/Lock Sport videos, it was cool to find this one with a link and p/w to the Overkill book. Thanks yet again, Bosnianbill!
I hope you have a great retirement. You have given me and millions of others around the world entertainment and helped a good number of us. My hat is off to you Bill.
Again from all your fans and those that have not subscribed yet I want to say thank you and may you have joy in your life.
Best thing ever was reading DrBint's book! I read it and instantly got better, read it again and am doing even better. Great free book. Thank you so much. Keep on picking.
I've watched this video over the past year I don't know how many times but I always enjoy it :)
