    How long should it take your engine light to go off after you fix your thermostat

      There's a comment thread on that here with a few answers. It'll go off fast if you disconnect the battery which you should do anyway with this repair.

      1- Put the switch in ON
      2- PRESS the throttle 3 times
      3- fire the engine
      4- it disappears

    What's your source for torque specifications?

    @mrficks1838 When I called for an estimate from mechanic shops they say that a thermostat replacement takes 1.5 hrs and so ike $110 to $220 depending on the shop buy in video and others it is very quick. What could they possibly be doing during the job to take 1.5 hrs?

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  Před rokem

      That sounds like too long but if you find a good mechanic that only charges $110 for a thermostat install then it's a deal. I suggest you buy the thermostat and bring it to them also.

      @@mrficks1838 yes I bought a thermostat recently and one mechanic said $110 another $210 and since the latter charges like $140 per hr it sounds like they expect it to be a 1 n a half hr job also.

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  Před rokem

      I think the $110 is reasonable considering the convenience.

      @@mrficks1838 Yeah I had it worked on for the $110 today. I wanted to work on it myself but I couldn't stand the smell of some nearby dead animal plus its hot where Im at. It did take an hr n a half technically but most of that time was just letting the car sit to cool off, using an air blower to dry the spilled coolant of the belts and other stuff, and draining coolant. He did take his sweet time to air dry the coolant though because it was sitting on the belt for at least 25 minutes. He insisted that time the belts were wet didn't corrode or damage them. If not for that dead animal smell I would've done it.

      I make sure to wash off any belts with water if they get coolant on them but other than that good to hear it's completed. Might wanna check your coolant temp for a bit to ensure no air is trapped in the system.

    I seen videos of guys not draining all the fluid only topping it off from a little fluid lost

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  Před 6 lety +3

      High Pressure spray potential there .. also you don't want coolant getting all over the belt .. it takes moisture out of rubber very quickly.

    • @Playpressed
      @Playpressed Před 6 lety +2

      Mr Ficks when changing the thermostat they release presssure from the coolant cap put the cap back then changed the thermostat without draining all the fluid and just top it off from a little spill from removing thermostat

    • @mrficks1838
      @mrficks1838  Před 6 lety +2

      Gotcha .. as long as they clean the coolant off the belt and purge the air from the system then that works.. I just prefer not to waste coolant and spill on the ground.. even in small amounts. Thanks for watching.

      I just changed the thermostat on my son’s Ram Pentastar V6. I didn’t drain the radiator. I lost about a litre or less coolant. All you lose is what’s in the upper hose, and draining the rad doesn’t empty the hose. I didn’t remove any of the stuff this guy removed.
