- Big Sky ski resort in Montana boasts the biggest skiing in America. The resort is centered around Lone Mountain with riding on 300 degrees of its face. No other resort drops riders into such exposed, big-mountain terrain without a guide. The resort features gnarly triple black diamond runs, including The Big Couloir. High-risk high reward challenges are all around. Beginner and intermediate riders are not left out though, and half of the terrain of this mega resort are groomers and easy riding. With 5,850 total acres, that makes the beginner and intermediate terrain larger than most other ski resorts.

Big sky is my favorite. Very underrated. I did the Big with my son a couple of years ago. One of the biggest highlights of my snowboarding experiences.
We would definitely go back to big sky. The Big was pretty intense.
Big Sky is incredible :D
It’s so cool to get to help install the new gondola from the bottom to the top! Like they mentioned when naming all the runs
Best video about big sky, thank you for this! looking forward to going here soon.
Impressive video and commentary. I'm messing around editing ski videos now, and you two motivated me to kick it up a notch
Editing takes way more time than I’d like it to.
Wow this place has some really challenging hikes and runs. Specially the one where you were walking on a super narrow path holding a rope 😊
some of the triple blacks there had mandatory air off cliff bands, pretty intense
Great video as usual! Makes want to try big sky even more!
Definitely should check it out! And you don’t have to ride the triple black runs to have a good time there.
Great review! Happy for you guys to be able to go here. We went in 2019 and Big Sky then became my favorite resort, topping Mammoth Mountain which was my previous favorite (now 2nd place). We stayed in Bozeman to save some $. We then skied 1 day at neighboring Bridger Bowl.
Definitely would go back. There were a lot of runs we didn’t get to.
Do you think going there for 5 days might be too much? Thanks
We went for 3 days and it was later in the season and a powder day so all the terrain was open. There were still more areas to explore so 5 days would have been good. If not all the terrain is open or if it hasn’t snowed in a while could get a little monotonous lapping groomers but that could be said for any resort.
@@ewelinaa.7700 agreed! we skied for 4 full days here and it wasn’t enough as we could have used 1-2 more days to cover it all / revisit our favorite runs once more.
Great job as usual with great editing, Happy New Year's to you both.
happy new year! yeah this resort is so large it took a while to edit
Awesome video you guys! I'm heading to Big Sky next month and this video definitely helped me with my trails list 🙏🏻🤙🏻 keep up the great work!!
Have a great trip! Let us know how it goes.
@@snowboardtraveler will do 🙏🏻 thank you!!
great video .. any suggestions on dining ?
Only ever snowboarded in Europe, and next year I’m going to venture further afield. This looks perfect. When is the best time to go for someone that is a keen snowboarder and his wife that doesn’t ski or snowboard? Good mixture of sun and snow.
We went a bit late for the ideal snow but lucked out with a good snow storm. I’d say aim for mid February to early March for best conditions. There are new great hotels for spa, apres, and other activities off the slopes. Montage!
And you can add in Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole to make it an extended road trip if you want.
Beautiful, in 2022 Big Sky was hurting for snow like the rest of the area.
It was, we got lucky with a snowstorm during our trip to pad the slopes
How do you like Big Sky compared to Revelstoke? Which would you recommend?
What type of terrain are you looking for? Big Sky felt much bigger, especially later in the season the lower half of Revy being low elevation can get quite warm so you’re just lapping the top. There is also much more technical terrain at big sky if it’s open. Revy is likely to get more snow and has great tree skiing but depends on the snow that year. I think I would lean toward big sky.
Great video! How do you compare Big Sky and Jackson Hole?
Big Sky has twice as much terrain as JH so there is more beginner and intermediate terrain. Big Sky will be better once the new tram is completed and it’s easier to get to the top of lone peak, those runs were nice. Both have decent challenging steeps. JH has more to do in the base area.
@@snowboardtraveler thank you! Super helpful
Is the tram crowded and expensive on weekdays as well? Or just weekends
less busy during the week but it is a destination resort so people come for multiple days, not just locals on the weekend. the tram pricing changes in real time based on the level of crowds. i'm not sure what it averages. we visited after a large storm and it had been fairly dry before so maybe everyone came for the powder day.
Are there lift lines even on weekdays? I was gonna rent a place for 2 months and rip it every day but I can't do lift lines. Loved that about Grand Targhee last year.....zero lift lines in 60 days and fresh pow lines every day. Thanks for that info 👍 you might have kept me from a Big Sky Mistake!!
The new tram is probably helping for getting to the top. And there’s a new 6 pack lift. The place is so big that people usually spread out. If you want more serious terrain than targhee I think it’s worth it.
@@snowboardtraveler I always get some Taos action in and it's the toughest lift served stuff around with no crowds and Targhee's snow quality is off the charts so I might just stick to that combo again this year with some Copper Mountain action on the weekdays... thank you so much for keeping me from those crowds. I figured Big Sky was less crowded.
@@snowboardtraveler hey you might not be aware that Targhee put in a new lift last year that opened up 700 acres of bowls that used to be Snowcat tours.... fresh tracks everyday!
We visited the year before it was installed and hiked into part of it. Looks pretty sweet. For the lines at big sky, I think of them similar to what you see at Copper.
@@snowboardtraveler Gotcha. I definitely avoid Copper Fri-Sunday. I might add in a Mountain Collective and tour around and try and time Big Sky on a Tuesday-Weds. Thanks alot for painting the picture with your video and reply.... great stuff 👍 have an awesome winter!
Looked like you were boarding down some runs beyond your ability.
Looks can be deceiving… just being extra cautious
