Tonbridge to Redhill Cab View On Board a DMU
Summer 1988
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of the cab view from Tonbridge to Redhill taken by the late Nick Winfield captured in the Summer of 1988. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.
yeah a lovely video too. i haven to say i have never travelled on this route but the lads at redhill depot…this is one of their core routes they have to know and one which they do loads of. they love their tonbridges. really lovely too see another good old 88 route recording. keep em coming!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
You're most welcome Karim...many thanks for watching and best regards to you....Mark
i love how the DMU sounds a bit like a routemaster
many thanks for watching and best regards to you....Mark
I thought this line would have been third railed by 1988, surprised to see it wasn't. Nice video.
The North Downs line is a bit of a forgotten gem. It remains non electric today partly because of previous WR operation powers but now of course plans are afoot to phase out the second generation DMUs finally. Battery cars anyone?
See reply from Duncan.....many thanks for watching and best regards to you....Mark
Laid in 1993. Went live in 1994.
@@duncancurtis5108 Tis kind of strange in deepest darkest Southern no juice.
One of the straightest bits of track in the country.
I believe the line is dead straight for much of the way between Tonbridge and Redhill.
And it goes on straight to Ashford....many thanks for watching and best regards to you....Mark
@@spompeyI read somewhere many years ago that due to the line being so straight and running through areas with a lack of features, that someone was paid by BR to leave their kitchen light on at night to provide a braking point for drivers in the dark. I don’t know where this would have been or how true it is, but it’s an old story
@@Captainpubwatch I most likely find it to be a wives tale, think of the consequences, rather humorous excuse for a run by.....many thanks for the amusing comment and for your interest....Mark
@@spompey Cheers Mark, it did seem a bit of an odd story! Thanks for the reply and take care, cheers
This must be a thumper then ?
No this is a 117 or 108 Diesel Mechanical not a 205 or 207 Diesel Electric.
Mo this was a London Set Class 117 as reply below..best regards to you.....many thanks....Mark
