I really don't understand why so many people are so harshly critical of Furlanetto. The current singers are shameful who murdered the opera, and Furlanetto is one of the few representatives of the old generation who are still active. More respect, please! 🙏
I think it's because his voice is a little different. I don't have enough of a grasp of voice lingo to describe it, but I'd compare it to something like Fritz Kreisler as a violinist - super distinctive, instantly recognizable, but a very unique sound and style. I don't think his is the most expansive or huge voice, but I find him hard to beat on expressiveness and pure acting chops for a pure bass, where many of them are just kind of wooden, impressive though their voices are. He's always fun to watch.
My teacher says my voice will sound like Furlanetto's as I get older. I doubt it pretty much! look how equal the voice sounds since the lowest notes until the high F. Brillant!
