    In Jacob Bronowski's 1973 series "The Ascent of Man", he explains how revolutionary (literally) Beumarchais' ideas were, suggestive of "new men knocking at the door". Napoleon called the last act, "The Revolution in Action".

    afro: r u kidding me?! english singer? the best for an italian opera is an italian singer like luca pisaronni, have seen him at roh singing figaro.

      This doesn't really make sense.
      Music is universal, even if it is written in a certain language, opera singers from, for example, english or spanish speaking countries don't have repertoire in their languages and they make a huge effort in learning the lyrics and right pronunciation in main opera languages: German, italian and french.
      I understand your point, but there's not always the opportunity to hire international singers.

      @@manualvarado2212 I don't understand his point. If Mozart opera's could only be sung by Austrian singers (because Mozart was from Austria, after all), the poor Italian singers would never get the chance to sing his magnificant music.

    Dear ROH, it's a shame that you are hiring awful singers like Schrott. He has a weak voice and often sings false - like an amateur, and you know it. You are probably hiring him because you hope that his name will make people pay. You should support and hire young English singers with better voices instead.

    • @e.r.i.n_
      @e.r.i.n_ Před 3 lety +2

      While not exactly an awful singer, I do concur with you, who I assume to be some sort of critic who wrote this 8 years ago, that they should be giving a chance to the younger singers. Going 'name brand' with singers that have already been established is never the best choice, especially when said singers have been used for so many things that they have gotten cocky and their vocals lackluster. Hidden talent should not stay hidden. Bring out the rookies and let them shine!

      Afro - You should work on your skills, and better luck next time. The singer is fabulous. You know how sometimes when one is jealous, they badmouth singers who made it instead of them, thinking it shoulda been them ; they coulda been a contender.
