Edit: wow all the comments on here are making me wanna play Planetside 2!
You should it's so good, the new player experience has it's flaws but it's still a great game even today
For sony PS3 there was quite a neat FPS game MAG, released at 2010. MAG had large battles (from 16vs16 to 128vs128), Unfortunately that game was quite a decade ahead of it's time and never got popular enough. It's been many years but I understand how you feel for this battlebits game. M.A.G. has been the my favorite FPS during all years, I was not the mvp hero, but with right team it was really fun.
austin you should pin this comment gamer it took forever to find it
@@Thedestroyer2031 oops I thought I did.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PS2 had it's hay day and it's long gone and was repeatedly shot in the foot by it's former lead developer.
Re: it not being possible 10 years ago this is not entirely true - planetside 2 released in 2012 and had over 1000 people per server in all out war playing on one server. Very similiar to battlebit but larger with future vehicles etc. Still goes on today and similiar to battlebit but less users obv due to the age. Battlebit has been scratching that PS2 itch.
Thank you! Was literally coming here to say everyone forgets PlanetSide 2 exists, it would make this game look small in it's hay day 😭
I still play PS2 to this day, nothing really scratches that itch for me (although I haven't tried battlebit). Austin if you haven't played it yet I recommend giving it a shot.
@nathanswim5037 i feel like every PS2 player should try battlebit and every battlebit player should try PS2. Theyre a really good pairing of games / mechanics.
What about MAG on Ps3
@@1lovesoni I loved that game on PS3. IMHO best fps I have played.and was released on 2010.
Well this is a welcome surprise. And based on how the devs have been responding and communicating, I don’t expect this game to have issues any time soon.
Smgs are an issue, but I trust them to make balance changes accordingly soon
yea other than some balancing issues (which is understandable for being early access) being the only real problem in the game, the devs are doing amazing work.
@@pancakes8816Honerbadger and AugA3 needs a buff
@@pancakes8816And overall I feel like the weapons need some sort of inspection. There’s certainly some imbalances to note..
The devs frequently post about what they're up to on their discord, in the weeks leading up to open access launch they were mostly working on the servers, now that they have a large player base they're gathering gameplay feedback on a large scale and from what I've seen they are indeed listening and working on balances
AS a fender for "substance over style" or "style over fidelity" i feel so fucking validated by this
gameplay will always be a better sellingpoint than sheer graphical fidelity and such
Would you rather eat a cake that tastes like shit or bread that tasted like heaven? That's why big companies are failing, they can't see that no matter how nicely you wrap shit, it's still shit.
If you thought BattleBit was chaos, you need to put some research into Planetside and Planetside 2. Planetside was WAY ahead of its time in terms of scale. Today, PS2 is still the king of massive battles over multiple continents.
Never even heard of this game, but it's clear you're passionate about it and I love listening to people talk about things they're passionate about. Keep it up!
It actually blown up on Steam. It's the top fifth of the most selling games there right now and 22th most played

Yeah. it was on the 22th place in top played games on Steam when I wrote that comment.
Now it's on the 34th place
This game make it feel good to die again. Really brings me back to MW2 again
Right? I don't get that mad when I die. It's just kinda like "haha oh damn."
Don't feel pressure to be the crazy science guy. We'll watch and listen to any topic you are interested in
yeah dude we love your content
I think a large part of the reason why BattleBit has succeeded is because Battlefield has continuously dropped the ball with its last few releases.
You mentioned that this game couldn't have existed ten years ago, and I agree, but for a totally different reason. The technology existed to make battlebit back then, but there wasn't a need for battlebit back in 2013. Battlefield 3 was still thriving, alongside the old bad company games with Battlefield 4 set to release in October of that year. If it came out back then it would have just been seen as a cheap knock-off of battlefield.
But today, in 2023, Battlefield isn't what it used to be, and hasn't been for a long time. Aside from the graphics, Battlebit Remastered is everything Battlefield should have became. Despite being made with a fraction of the budget and staff, battlebit is the best battlefield game to come out in a decade because they focused on a formula that works, and improved upon it instead of gutting the experience for the sake of microtransactions like battlefield did (among numerous other mistakes the series has made).
If you want this scale try foxhole it's a persistent war simulator and by that i mean logistics intel the whole nine yards every bullet to every tank is made by a real person sacrificing hours of their life to make the gear (they do actually enjoy the gameplay for some reason)
New game added to my radar. Looking forward to joining everyone on in the battle! Great vid 👍
That's why it's so great. They put the power of technology where it mattered. In the details of the gameplay.
"I can't shoot, therefore I support those who can! "
This has been my motto much more than I'd like to admit😂
I wasn't sure if I was gonna play this game, so I decided to check out some gameplay streams. Within the first two minutes, the person playing _dragged a casualty away from danger before _*_bandaging them on the spot where the player then said that ANY PLAYER CLASS CAN DO THIS, NOT JUST MEDICS_* and I immediately purchased it. I had been squawking in various Battlefield games chat windows about how easy it would be to do this. Apparently these three indie devs were paying attention. Play this game, people, its dope.
I also like that you can drag enemies, if I ever catch a straggler and take them down I just go drag their body for a bit and tell them "WE'RE GOING TO THE FUN DUNGEON"
My friend did something clever. by default bandage is 3 and drag is f... well what if both were f? suddenly you can drag to saftey while bandaging!
Hell yeah, another Austin vid! Missed you, man ❤
Hell yeah
Your videos are so good. It feels like one of the last youtubers who don't make over-saturated or over-energetic content and blame the mysterious algorithm when a video doesn't do well, keep it up!
I don't feel like I'm the absolute worst at shooters but I definitely relate. The mass scale keeps my anxiety down as I don't feel like I cost everyone the game when I suck.
Loving the battlebits. Took me a while to get used to sniping, my warmup / practice is shooting at helicopters
It's funny you say 10 years ago, because 10 years ago there was Planetside 2 (2012) and MAG (2010, though PS3 exclusives), and almost exactly 20 years ago Planetside (2003).
MAG is 126v126, and Planetside is an open world 3-for-all.
I don't know much about MAG other than that, but Planetside is pretty massive. Vehicles, power armor, classes, etc. It's also free to play, for better or worse, and the first one got discontinued a few years ago, but 2 is still going strong.
You join a faction, pick a class, and go wherever. Small battles, or 1v1 infiltration, but also a huge firefight pretty much stuck in a stalemate, and the size of these fights can change at any time.
Not sure where I'm going with this, just thought you'd like to know.
After watching this video, it makes me remember how much fun I used to have playing planetside, great game with a similar feeling of scale.
Never have I related to an introduction so much before
I understand your pain and I stand with you 🫡
Never clicked so fast. Missed you my guy
0:37 no I'm not happy your amazing dude you got this.
Me too. Clicked it faster than a quarry deathclaw on a lvl 2 Courier.
A surprisingly good and enjoyable video about an indi game
Good to hear your voice from time to time
Niiiiceee, always looking
forward to a new video from you!
I doubt you'll ever get the chance to check it out, but look up MAG for the PS3. That game released in 2010 I believe, and its main marketing strategy was that it could have up to 256 players in one game. It was great fun when you could play, letting you pick between 3 different PMC factions, but it was a grind. I'm glad to see more and more games are going back to the higher overall player counts.
More chaos = More fun.
MAG was great
VOIP makes things better in every game. I had a game of War of Rights once where I spent at least 5 minutes taking potshots at the Rebs while chatting with a guy on the other side of a log next to me. At one point, I saw a company moving towards us and said "Is that us or them?" Then I saw an American flag at their head and said "Thank god for the stars and stripes." At that same moment, he said "No, that's us." That was when I realized I had spent the last 5 minutes chatting with a Reb, and he realized he had been chatting with a Yank. We both had a "wait, what?" moment before frantically trying to shoot each other and both dying immediately
Damn, 30 seconds. Thats fast
Austin another game you might enjoy is planetside 2, huge scale like this and free to play
Huh never even heard of BattleBit before this definitely looks interesting and that you can get a lot out of it.
its actually really funny that i can see ur level 30-40 and all the clips for this video are clips of you ressing people and walking around :D great video!
In an industry where gameplay is king, microtransactions are anti-gameplay. You would think the industry would have figured that out by now.
Dude. This is the best kind of video. You really like something, you share it with us.
I dunno. I think there is just something really cool about that. I could hear the excitement in your voice. Happy for you, sir.
Kinda like planetside 2, but far more simple and fun.
I did in fact watch you talk about BattleBit for a few minutes.
Colour me intrigued. Glad you're having fun with it and it's fun to gush. :)
I love hearing you talk, yell and explane to the music you choose . It makes me feel good.😊
You should try Planetside 2 if you enjoy battle bit. Its got plenty of stuff to explore for videos too.
No one remembers M.A.G.I loved that game because of their 256v256 player modes
I absolutely adore battlebit. Its fantastic
okay there is only one rule on fps games and that is stay behind cover even when you are trying to kill people. if these clips are any indication that's your problem right there. cover cover cover. LOved the video 🤗🤗🖤🖤
I don't care much for Roblox, but I'm always happy to watch an Austin upload
Step one: play medic
Step two: play with fast firerate smg
Step three: profit
I killed you the other day, shoddy. If you stay mobile you won't die as much. You did nail me from a fucking mile off after i got you.
Hey I just wanted to say that you are one of my favorite people on this entire platform and deserve much more recognition.
Back when you were on the theorists I always enjoyed your uploads more than matpat's, even though they were less often. It was like a sweet little treat.
I love your format, let's take something in a video game and I'll tell you why it would utterly destroy you or everything around you in real life. It's like game theory but on steroids, including your personality, youre so much more energetic and hyped than matpat.
Thank you for all you do and I want you to know you're very much appreciated
I am happy you are making videos. Take care of yourself, dude. You should play with fans in this game. Would love to see that.
Absolutely well put Austin!! Hope this is a good change for the gaming community rather than a way worse experience with MTX.
glad ur back
Planetside 2 has this balance you're looking for between everything. You're welcome.
I'd honestly say the battle bit looks closer to unturned than roblox
Love the vid austin!
Another great video Austin!
This looks fun! Thanks for sharing!
I love not sponsored sponsored vidos
I have to agree, the large team sizes are amazing. The large team size is very helpful for letting somebody like me play, because in games where I *have* to be on a four-man squad, I'm always too anxious because *I know I suck*, and I never get to really enjoy the game. When I have 127-something teammates, if I die a few times, nobody will notice!
You've convinced me to play
I actually LOVE the fat that the graphics are like this. The hitboxes are great there is no blurring of player graphics into backgrounds. It is fantastic.
I'm patiently waiting for the next shoddy cast video
This video not only taught me about the existence of BattleBit but also convinced me to try it and since then it has been primarily the only game I've played.
Medic class, might have to buy now.
Reminds me of Planetside 2, or when I was playing advanced amateur 32v32 BF3 matches. You are one in many, but still essential.
And give the medics of these worlds some respect!
Not enough talk abt Planetside 2! Tbh everything youre saying about this makes me think it will scratch that same itch on some level and that def makes it worth it for me to check it out! And yes graphics can be nice but its never been the deciding factor of wether i enjoyed a game
you might catch me in one of your games flying around in a littlebird blasting slipknot while raining fire from the sky 😁 loving this game its so much fun.
I use to be a avid planetside 2 player I had made a whole channel around construction and clocked in around 2,644 hours on the live servers alone. I left when the devs killed what my channel was all about with their May patch. So left for BattleBit & Skyrim (I'm late to the party on that game) and I'm still not satisfied as BattleBit may be big but it lacks the community factor that a sandbox environment would offer. It honestly just comes off as just a larger lobby shooter which isn't what I was looking for. PS2 felt more like an open world where you and the enemy or friend could just hang out on the corner of the map and chat for 3 to 4 solid hours straight exchange contact info and meet up again later. I don't see that sort of community in BB.
you would think Nintendo would've shown that lesson a long time ago xD graphics don't matter as long as the game is fun, zelda proved that, mario proved that, you get the point. Also another good point of battlebit is the quick respawn. helps keep the flow going
I would like to hear your thoughts on depersonalization/see you tie it into a video game. It's something I and a lot of other people struggle with and there's not a lot of coverage at all on it so it's really hard to find out quality information about it.
look forward to trying it
My favorite version of Fortnite was the massive 100 vs 100 big team battles. Sad they haven't returned it
7:27 I have two words for you if you want more of this sort of large scale combat: Planetside 2
It’s about 10 years old now and not nearly as popular, but it does have that same chaotic energy. It’s also free to play. No cross faction voip or dragging people around, but perhaps worth a shot if you need a break from Battlebit.
thi reminds me very much of Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. used to play that one a lot
I'm so bad at shooters but i might have to give this one a try. Thank you for showing us this game!
Excellent episode
Love this episode, but would also love to see the science behind squad mechanics
Hey Austin, this doesn't really have anything to do with the video itself, but it does reminded me of the video you did on Hyper Light Drifter. I still really liked that video and rewatched it dozen times a year. Hope you'll do something like that again!
SOMEONE TELL SHODDY ITS 8 MINUTES NOW NOT 10
This is the best Battlefieldlike of all time, not close. Great game
I just wish people would stop blasting music 😭 *old man waves fist at clouds*
Alright, I'll buy the game Austin
Austin I have 70 hours already I blame you
I would love for you to do an updated THE SCIENCE on your home run bat video from GT before you left, that was my favorite of your the science videos.
There was a game years ago I think it was PS3 game called MAG. Massive Action Game. It was amazing. 64v64. I have been wanting for MAG2 for YEARS....
Oooh an Austin video, what a treat.
It's like squad but with a much lower bar for entry
Wow this reminds me of the huge battles from my time on MAG on the ps3.
Never thought someone could make me care about a Roblox clone fps. Great video.
PLEASE make a video on Elite Dangerous sometime. I need to know the science behind the ftl cruising, wormhole jumping ships that scoop fuel out of space by orbiting stars so close they fly through the solar flares.
The king has returned
When it comes to size of fights, there is Planetside 2 that did it bigger.
But BBit is super fun.
The biggest take away is that its fun, its nostalgic of contemporary shooters from 7-15 years ago, im talking about battlefield 3&4, Cod black ops and mw3, even halo 3 it was all good gameplay, and why those games are still favorites today
My buddy sold his gaming desktop a bit ago cause he didn't use it much, he's only got an old gaming laptop he brought a few generations ago and we're having a blast playing this, its like the only game other than counterstrike he can run on it well
Hey, I’d totally be down to listen to an Austin Chats about/ ShoddyReviews playlist if you feel like talking about games you like.
Doesn’t anyone remember MAG!?! 😫
thanks for the vids
I would absolutely love this game. However, it is for windows and I have a Mac.
Love from a Vaush and Bricky fan!
Hey Austin, I want to see THE SCIENCE of Monowire in Cyberpunk 2077. It's described as impossibly strong wire that's only a few atoms thick, and can cut anything. Would it even be able to cut, or would it just pass through most matter? If it could cut, how could you even hold it? What kind of crazy weak force / strong force bonds would be needed to keep the wire together? You could also cross-reference the impossible "shadow wire" in Ringworld, the classic "hard sci-fi" book by Larry Niven.
I had no clue this game was a thing until today. I feel like I missed it because Lethal Company blew up in my corner of the internet. But I'd love to try this game out if it's still popular.
you should make another video about the game about those things you were saying you could make a video of.
I know you probably don’t check comments for requests and this is really vague anyway, but do you think you could somehow do a THE SCIENCE video that includes negative mass in your explanation? I wanna understand it so bad but I just can’t wrap my mind around it, and when I asked my physics teacher he said I’d have to take his class on space or something next year, and I’m taking something else instead. I don’t know if you even understand it, but if you do I know you’d be able to put it in normal human words. Thank you for all the fun content you put out, and whether you do this or not I hope you have a cool day :)
Yea medic is rly good start class since can run around with a submachine gun, get points for revives and heals, and eventually get good at running behind enemy to spray whole bunch of them. If you like sniping, this game's worth a try for you. Physics is good so can run around medium scope sniping or sit back at long range like thousands of meters, enemy players are just little specs
Your video made my buy it, now I’m the Uber man…healing everyone but sometimes…as one German medic once said:”the healing is not as rewarding as the hurting” (team fortress 2 reference )
I think Foxhole would be another interesting game for you to take a look at.
It's a entire 24/7 war where all players are on one map seperated into multiple regions which are basically different servers and maps.
Everything is made by players from the tanks, go the guns, to all the ammo, to the trucks that drive the ammo to the front, and even collecting the resources to make those trucks.
The game is so in depth you can go a hundred hours of gameplay without ever seeing the front. Only harvesting resources and making weapons and doing logistics. Building defenses is also a very big thing in the game.
The dev team also trys to give us WEEKLY, WEEKLY dev videos on saturdays here on youtube/twitch talking about the ins and outs about the game!
They even just added a CAPTURE THE FLAG mode and are trying to get custom servers(pistols only, snipers only, etc.) Added in! And just REWORKED a map faster than battlefiels 2042 did in its ENTIRE lifecycle! Amazing
More on their official discord but what a gem of a game!
It reminds me of the height of Planetside 2, but instead of 200ish between two groups is over a thousand divided into three factions. It was wild.
