When I was a teenager, my dad taught me how to shoot a pistol with a CO2 powered Daisy pellet gun that looked much like a S&W M41. We used to shoot it in the hallway, after closing the pets in the living room.
Yeah, pellet guns, BB rifles, air, CO2, and many more non-powdered types... all a huge amount of fun and a great way to learn the basic principles of shooting, especially if your dad is your teacher. I was lucky.

It’s amazing how old pneumatic rifles are, even used by Lewis and Clark. I prefer break barrels for their ease of use and difficulty shooting precisely.

PCP air rifles are a blast. I have a Benjamin Marauder .177 and use it all the time in Florida to practice my shooting skills on invasive species iguanas. My neighbors, who can't stand the ugly lizards because they eat all the flowers, tell me all the time when one is prowling in the neighborhood. The Marauder has a baffle that kills the noise so it is very quiet. If you don't have a PCP air rifle you don't know what fun you are missing!
That's very cool. Did you ever see the one Keith Warren uses ? I think it's called the dragon claw, it's a 50 cal. And he kill's everything with that thing even a cape Buffalo with a heart shot from a blind over a watering hole. Really pretty amazing.
Hi Jason - I read a few things - but have a hunch you know a lot more. I'll look up the .50 - sounds like something! There has to be an easier way to charge these pneumatic guns. Pumps and scuba tanks are okay but maybe smaller cylinders - like thermos size would be popular. Maybe they exist already.
I have the long gun version. It has to be one of the best airguns ever made. It is the hammer of .22 air rifles. I highly recommend it!
I sold mine and have nothing but regret - I'll have to buy another : )

I love PCP air rifles. My favorite are the FX airguns. I have a couple and they have integral suppression so they are whisper quiet and extremely accurate. You should check them out. You won't be disappointed.

Everybody should own an air rifle or two, IF you're into this sport/hobby.
I love my 'break barrel/springer' type air rifles and pistols, they give hours of low cost shooting fun.
You bet Reg - superb for everyone - and young people just love those break barrel models. My favorite is a Slavia break. I've never had anyone dislike shooting once they try it - no matter what they thought about guns before.
I BELIEVE YOU CAN DECOCK THIS RIFLE BY OPENING THE ACTION AND HOLDING DOWN THE TRIGGER AND CLOSING THE LEVER.
Update - just heard from another owner - he reports that on his model - the trigger can be de-cocked and there is no secondary chamber : ) - there always seems to be another angle to these things.
2nd update - my friend tells me the rifles with regulators are the way to go and that the Sumatra is okay but not the best. I must admit I purchased the Sumatra without knowing much about it. Thanks again for the note - it has "triggered" more thought and awareness of the pneumatic mechanisms on my part. From what I can see this technology has a bright future - very capable and interesting. Evidently the FX products are excellent.

MY NEPHEW LIVES NEXT DOOR AND WE BOTH LOVE AIRGUNS, AND HAVE A 40 YARD SHOOTING RANGE WITH SQUIRRLS, TARGETS AND GONGS. I WATCHED ANOTHER CZcamsR DECOCK HIS RIFLE. HE OPENED THE LEVER ALL THE WAY. HE THEN PULLED THE TRIGGER AND AFTER HE PULLED THE TRIGGER, HE CLOSED THE LEVER. TRY THIS INSTEAD OF PULLING THE TRIGGER WHILE TRYING TO CLOSE THE LEVER.
Some companies are serious about b.b. guns. This looks like the quality of a good o/u bird gun.
Sumatras are very powerful lethal guns. I have the 25 cal Sumatra it's as powerful as 22 lr if not more powerful. It definitely will put down anything a 22 lr can. I shoot 55gr slugs out of mine. No pellets. I love it!!

That gun out of the box can generate 40-60 ft lbs. A modded .25 can generate 135 ft lbs. 1049 FPS with a 56 grain, which I’ve seen = 136.87 ft lbs. Not you daisy or red rider. Even smokes the most powerful break over.

I am lucky enough to live in the country with a very large property, so I can shoot some hefty calibers. But I recently bought a Marlin 1894 in 357, which is not so loud as some larger and faster calibers. These lower power rifles are fun, I shoot lots of 22 and now 357, as well as my air rifle. You get good practice to keep up your shooting skills and save a lot on ammo costs. Great video, and thank you for sharing this unique air rifle with us.
You have the life! The .357 is a fantastic round - especially in the 1894 - an often overlooked Marlin. I agree - the big guns steal all the thunder but the lighter rounds are the ones we shoot the most - including the air rifles.
Air guns are quite big in the UK (relatively speaking of course) but are not exempt from regulation - power is limited to 12 ft/lbs (6 ft/lbs for pistols) unless you want to go through the process of applying for a firearms certificate and the associated hassle. I greatly enjoy the airguns I shoot (a Weihrauch HW77 in .22 and an Air Arms Alfa in .177) and regularly achieve good results with them.
Part of the enjoyment is that they are relatively quiet and certainly inexpensive to shoot - a tin of 500 pellets in .22 calibre is unlikely to cost more than £15. With PCP rifles like the Sam Yang you have there, or the Weihrauch HW100, then there is a cost in filling equipment (perhaps about £200) but it is a one-off - refilling a dive bottle can be done by most gun or dive shops quite inexpensively.
The advantages enjoyed by airguns over their powder-burning counterparts make them excellent teaching tools in my experience, with some instructors preferring to use spring-powered rifles and others electing for the PCP option.
Both have advantages and disadvantages - the recoilless characteristics of PCPs, and the ease of attenuating their report means that certain individuals can more readily overcome their fear of the gun, especially if the rifle is also lightweight - ideally around 6.5lbs.
Spring-powered rifles are on the whole less forgiving of poor technique and can teach a prospective marksman a great deal, readily highlighting errors such as inconsistent hold and/or trigger pull. Some individuals may struggle to cock some rifles on the market, and the cocking cycle becomes more challenging to execute from the prone position.
Cheaply made air rifles are generally to be avoided, if possible - they are not necessarily unsafe, but poor manufacturing and quality control can result in a rifle whose limits are quickly reached, resulting in frustration for the shooter who reaches these limits and the subsequent expense of replacing such a rifle with a more expensive rifle of better quality - one which would likely have been suitable from the start.
I find it interesting that the Sam Yang comes equipped with iron sights - a relatively rare occurrence in the UK, especially on more expensive airguns - the assumption being that somebody who is willing to pay about £600 upwards will scope his rifle irrespective of the provision of iron sights. My HW77 came outfitted with such sights and I use them exclusively - I don't hunt and I feel that any magnified optic would upset the handling characteristics of the rifle. I have seen red dot sights used, but they are a relatively uncommon thing in the UK, and there is a substantial chunk of such sights which are cheaply made and unfit for purpose.
In all of this, it can be quite easy to overlook the primary objective of airguns, an aspect in which they excel - fun! There is nothing more distressing to me than seeing a shooter who is obsessed with his equipment (and the equipment of others) to the point that he forgets to enjoy himself. To that end, I bring the bare minimum with me to the range and rarely obsess over guns - unless it happens to be a Feinwerkbau!

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns One good thing about high powered airrifles like the Sumatra is no ammo shortage and the huge range of pellets and slugs now available which cost pennies really which is great if like me you enjoy shooting a lot . Another good thing i like about the Sumatra as well as shooting like a lazer with no recoil is the power adjuster which lets you set the power to suit different situations great gun for the price .
a suppressor will work very well with these rifles

In 10 years the development has gone like from black powder to laser guns.. almost.. i could mention smooth twist barrels, barrel liners, fx independence, amazing bullpups.. as the impact and wildcat.. bottle guns as the fx boss and fx crown. Crazy higH shootcounts pr fill .. fx is pusHing tHe industri forward. In my view at least.. :) maybe it will catch your interest .. i hope so. Annyway i look at almost all your videos. Thanks for taking your time making them.
You certainly can Decock this rifle. Its in the manual how to do so. There is no such thing as a .22 short pellet to shoot in this rifle.
