  • Think back to the time when you first started playing Disc Golf. For some we were given a disc by a friend, others started with an ultimate frisbee, but the overwhelming majority were likely introduced with a starter set. Often including a putter, mid, and driver in base plastic; these discs are the foundation to hundreds of thousands of disc golf careers.
    I thought, at the end of the biggest year of disc golf in my life, why not go back to the basics? I went out to George Ward Park in Birmingham, Alabama, and played the front nine using only an Innova Discs starter set. Little did I know everything would be set up in the long positions for an upcoming tournament when I filmed…but see how it went. Also if you’re new to the sport and trying out the discs for the first time, I hope the commentary helps as we talk about the discs and how to know when you’re ready to move past the starter set!
    For this week’s youtube spotlight, I wanted to feature a new friend, Sara Sinclair, and her husband, Shawn! Shawn is a former pro and Sara plays in FPO currently. They are incredible teachers, players, and people. Check out their content at / @sinclairdiscgolf

    Funny how the starter set makes a veteran look like a beginner...lol!! So on that, my daughter, not knowing disc golf bought me the starter set for Christmas. She saw a box with three discs and got it for me. I was happy to get it because it went to show she had my interests and loves at heart. I actually do putt with the Aviar that came in my first starter set and it was 175g. The Shark is actually a very nice disc as well but, I do not bag one. DX plastic, in my opinion, is only good for the putters.

    I love my leopard
    as a beginner this spring the fastest disc I throw is a saint at 9 speed
    I switch to the leopard when I get tired around hole 15 I can get full flight out to about 200 ft
    speed 7 is where I live
    the teebird and river are my go to discs
    for mid range I like the roc over the shark but I throw both
    I have a AviarX3 and a few other putters (colt, arrow, warden ) I find myself grabbing the aviar more than anything
    the arrow is for approach for it is too bouncy to stay in the basket but it flies straight

    This is making me want to find my old beginner set from a while back a try to do a round with them. I have my leopard will do exactly what yours does. Thanks for the video, definitely made me laugh and want to get out and throw some DX plastic.

    Great video! I have a set from Divergent Discs that I'm planning on filming a round with once the weather is better. That Leopard is comedy gold.

      Do your self a favor and buy yourself a mid and a low speed driver in a premium plastic and weights over 170. The DX plastic in these sets is so flippy ubderstable they will just turn over if you put any power into them. As you see on this video.

    That was pretty cool to see since I also started with an Innova starter set. Interesting you didn't throw the DX Destroyer or Dragon. I love the Dragon, straight flier and best of all it floats so I actually still use the Dragon on one particular water whole some times.

  • @eshepley
    @eshepley Před 3 lety

    What is it with the Leopard? Even I can get it to turn over (usually way too much) even though I’m terrible and even my Mambas hyzer.

  • @bernieyancey2087
    @bernieyancey2087 Před 3 lety

    I’ve got a slow arm and a new DX leopard will still flip over on me. Max weight DX shark is probably my most versatile disc in my bag still.

    • @seanmiller292
      @seanmiller292 Před 3 lety

      If you know how to throw a disc at all the leopard will always turn over on you, just buy a new set before you start throwing everything like a hunchback in order to get it to hizer flip for you.

  • @Meta-Drew
    @Meta-Drew Před 3 lety

    When I played for the first time 15 years ago I just bought a DX shark, didn't want to buy multiple discs and figured a midrange could do a bit of everything, only ever played 2 rounds with it back then. My favorite old disc is a dx wraith from when I first got back into disc golf 5 or 6 years ago -- I just spike hyzered that thing on every single hole(usually more than once since I could only throw like 150ft) for many rounds, now it is absolutely amazing to hyzer flip, it feels like it turns after 300ft and then never fades, I don't have another driver that flies the same but I had to retire it because I would be broken if I lost it. I'm working on trying to break in a premium plastic driver to fly like that but its taking me quite a while.

      I was actually surprised at how "stable" it was. My intro leopard just wants to turn into a roller at any speed (3mo old intro pack).

    • @sharingtimeagain
      @sharingtimeagain Před 3 lety

      @@robthaham3408 Maybe I'm mistaking what the leopard is meant to do. I always considered it more stable to slightly under stable.

      Jason Brown I have a dx leopard that i throw on an extreme hyzer and it will turn all the way over to my left (lefty). I use it for crazy dog legs and it works wonders lol.

  • @T-1_Discgolf
    @T-1_Discgolf Před 3 lety

    In all honesty good insight and all, but I would of liked to see more forehands being thrown. It was really painful to watch you force backhand turnovers with the leopard and shark. Although I did see a couple forehand attempts from the knee. I think you couple of tried a few from the pad and saved yourself some grief in bad spots.
