    The Canon T7i/800D & 77D are more than just an entry level DSLR. With high end specs, fast autofocus, great image quality, and solid design, Canon's best DSLR might also be their cheapest. But does it compete with the Sony A6300 , Fuji X-T20, & Nikon D5600?

    I've subscribed to your channel for a few months because I like the reviews you and your wife do. I have been procrastinating on a dslr purchase for a while. A friend suggested the T7i, and I'm so glad to see you reviewed it. I think it's time to let the phone be just a phone again, and get me one of these. And new one aren't as expensive as I thought.

      Thanks!!! Yes, the Canon T7i would be a great option. Also, Canon JUST announced the SL3 which is basically a smaller T7i for a little less $: bhpho.to/2UxEGqZ. The main difference is that the T7i is slightly larger with more controls (some people would prefer that) and the T7i offers better AF when using the optical viewfinder. However, the SL3 offers better video options and faster AF when using the rear LCD screen (live view)
      Here are my recommended lenses/accessories: geni.us/eosrebel

      Thank you for the info. I saw your post on the Facbook group, and was wondering how the SL3 was going to compare to the T7i. I was thinking of researching the 80D, but I have a tendency to over-think my options. Then I miss out when I could be enjoying myself. So, I'm going with the 7i. Looking forward to your next videos.

    Would you recommend the T7i over the Sony A6300 now that they have fixed the overheating issue. you said you got rid of it for that reason a year ago. I like that its touch screen, flip screen and easier to use. Im torn between cameras and just looking for more advice.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey. So from a camera quality perspective the Sony a6300 is a big improvement over the T7i and the overheating does seem to be way less prevalent. The a6300 is a massive improvement for video as well, especially if you don't mind shooting 4k and it looks like you do a ton of video! But yes, you have to live without the flip screen which can be an inconvenience for self shooting with youtube. But if you can deal with that, or don't mind using a small external monitor, the a6300 offers better image quality for video and stills although their lenses often cost more. What are you shooting with now?

    • @MommaFromScratch
      @MommaFromScratch Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you for the response! I use the Sony rx100 now . I do lots of DIY's and decorating so I'm not behind the screen that much. I know I can set up an external monitor but I'd like to keep things simple. Is the video quality that noticeable to the average person? If you could pick them up for the same price which would you choose? I really like how easy the canon seems to be to operate and touch screen. I know I can continue to upgrade but I'd like to make a good decision

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety +1

      Nice! For you I would honestly consider the a6300 more...especially if you are coming from the rx100. Yes, you can absolutely see the difference in a side by side test. That said, I don't think you will disappoint anyone (including yourself) with the quality of the T7i but I guarantee you will see the difference once you shoot on the a6300. The ONLY reason I would go with the T7i is for the flip out screen but again, you can combat that by using the mobile app or a small crappy monitor if you find it to be a huge deal. Hope that helps a bit. Unfortunately there is never a perfect camera!

      @MommaFromScratch Před 6 lety

      thank you, I appreciate the help and advice. I was looking at getting the 35mm for the a6300 as I like the boka it provides! Let me know if you have any suggestions? Again thank you very much for the help!

    Thanks for the video, do you think the SL2 is a better option if I'm searching for a compact camera (maybe with the 24mm f/2.8 pancake) or would I miss too much?
    I don't do sports, so could the Dual Pixel be enough?
    I can get the SL2 + the 24mm for the price of the T7i body only.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety

      If you shoot mostly with the rear screen instead of the viewfinder and are not looking to shoot high speed action, the SL2 is fine. The biggest improvements on the T7i over the SL2 are the focus system when using the viewfinder and buffer.

    Hello Dan,
    Thank you for your reviews and videos. Very informative and helpful. I would like to ask for your advice on one topic, if possible. At the moment I shoot with the Nikon D3300 (mostly landscapes and night shoots). I am thinking about upgrading either to a Fujifilm X-T20 or a Canon 800D. I would very much appreciate your opinion on which camera you think it’s best as far as image quality (sharpness, dynamic range, and so). I have been watching a lot of Fuji reviews, and I really like the colors and sharpness of the X-T20. Can you give me your take on which one you think it’s best? I could also consider a 77D or 80D, but I think that since the sensor and processor are the same for all these 3 Canon, as far as image quality there should not be a great difference.
    Thank you in advance. Regards,
    Bruno Melo

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety

      Hey Bruno
      So I would say the X-T20 is technically better quality but it's not for everyone. I would more recommend it to people who either love the retro design or appreciate manual tactile controls and love cameras as it can be more difficult to operate. Plus there is less training available for that camera than the 800D or 77D. Right now the 77D is just about the same price as the 800D so I might consider that also but skip the 80D for now and yes, all the Canon's offer just about identical quality.

    • @bmmelo2oo7
      @bmmelo2oo7 Před 6 lety

      Thank you for your reply Dan. I think I will go for the X-T20.
      Best regards.

    For FILM: T7i/800D vs 80D and the headphone jack input question ... for filmmaking. How accurate is it? Same quality as in the control room/edit room as in real life? I'm a film composer but would like a nice good handy cam to bring with me for short films in the city/nature - so ofc I'll need a good mic+noise/wind muff. But...go those extra hundra bucks for the 80D only for the headphone jack?? Soo much leaning towards the T7i/800D Would appreciate feedback! Great channel man

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety

      The headphone jack is great if you want to monitor your audio from the camera and is sometimes helpful to have. Although for any serious audio creation you will want to use an external recorder as the preamps on most DSLRs are not that great.

I'm an astrophotographer however I've never used any DSLRs as they are so expensive for me, so I have only used camera from smartphones for years.. this will be the first time I'd be doing an upgrade so I'd appreciate it if you can recommend this camera (T7i) for my astro imaging (entry level)? Thanks in advance and more power to your channel!

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 3 měsíci

      Sorry for the late reply! It's definitely not a bad option although Sony sensors tend to do better with low light so I might suggest something like an a6000 series camera (a6300 is great) instead if it's not out of the budget

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey, thanks! The SL2 is very limited for photography because of slow continuous shooting with a horrible buffer and an old focus system that lacks the performance of the T7i. It works well for vlogging though because for video/live view it uses the dual pixel AF system which is actually pretty good but for photos using the viewfinder, especially if you are shooting continuous and moving subjects, you should step up to the T7i

      Technically they offer almost identical image quality so the major differences is the lens options, autofocus, and ergonomics/handling. The T7i has more options on lenses especially if you can spend more $ while the m50 is better for cheaper lenses.

    Hey Dan I need advice...
    I want a good stills and lowlight, video camera. Sony a6300 has everything what I needed but I am concerned about 1080p. Am I live in Germany very cold area lol the a6300 heat?
    I loved t7i but as you said it's looks grainy in lowlight... And again I also into sports....
    What should I do?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety

      The A6300 would look better than the T7i even in 1080p, the difference is just not as major. These cameras use a full pixel readout for 4k but not for 1080p hence the lower quality when using these modes. If you can shoot 4k and then transcode or edit that 4k video in a 1080p timeline in post, that's the best quality. But if you are shooting 1080p only, the a6300 still offers better quality video than the T7i but not so much better that I would chose it over the T7i just for that reason.

    I'm torn between 800d and d5600 mainly because I will shoot people and I know that Nikon has more crisps looking photos because the lack of AA filter and better battery life but mainly because of the better dynamic range. But I'm not able to find comparison in real life scenarios and low light situations. Although photography is with priority, good video Is needed occasionally and there is where Canon have an edge compared to Nikon because of DP autofocus.
    I'm not technically obsessed, but want good focused and natural photos and I don't know how big is the difference in the real life.

    Hello, great review! but so great you have put me in trouble
    I'm looking for my first DSLR camera, and probably the only one for a long time. First I was looking at the D5600, but after comparing with the D5500, I rather like the D5500 (time lapse, NFC and Bluetooth, the most noticeable features, I don't need them).
    Then I found this camera, compared with the D5500 is about 180 - 200 usd difference for (what I think I will use) 45/45 cross focus points vs 39/9 cross from Nikon, and the dual pixel. I know that you say that at 10:53, but in your experience, those 2 features are worth about usd 200 + a smaller sensor + a little bit lower picture quality + less pics x battery?
    Hope you could help me, I really don't know which would suit better my future needs.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 6 lety +1

      Haha, until there is a perfect camera, there will always be this kind of decision making!!!
      I'll try and make this simple. If you EVER plan on using live view for composing/shooting pictures or shooting video using the screen instead of the optical viewfinder, I would ABSOLUTELY get the T7i or 77D (which is on a huge sale BTW: kit.com/learningcameras/best-gear-for-canon-eos-dslr-cameras)
      The difference in quality/battery is minor and most people are not using lenses good enough or shooting RAW with large enough shadow pushes to even notice the difference in quality. What is massive is the difference in usability when using live view and MANY people love using it for photos and video. So for most people, I would recommend getting the T7i/77D over the D5600 as a result.

    So I am trying to start a photography business as well as begin making videos. I have a budget of around $1000 (I am 17) and I have a few wants/needs for a camera. These include: Sharp image quality, at least 6 fps shooting, at least 1080p 60fps (slow motion is something I will be doing) but 4k would be much better, at least 20000 iso, wi fi and bluetooth as well as time lapse mode would be nice, tilting display, good auto focus, microphone port (not necessary but it would be nice), a touch screen would be great, Environmental sealing would also be nice, lots of lenses to choose from. So those are my needs/wants in a camera, It will be for everything from landscape photography, to product photography, portraits and the video will be used just as much. I have narrowed my search to 2 camera that I have found and can get for the same price right now. They are the Canon T7i and the Sony a6300. The kits I found have the following: Canon T7i, EF-S 18 - 55mm IS STIM, EF-S 55 - 250mm lens, filter, battery charger, 2 batteries and camera bag or the Sony a6300, 16 - 50mm lens, battery and charger. Both kits cost the same. I am having trouble deciding, I like the T7i for the ease of use i.e. touch screen, fully articulating, lots of lens options, good button layout, classic dslr feel and the 60fps 1080p is the only reason I want to pay more for it over the T6i which is $500 off at the moment as I want to do slow motion. But I am disappointed that it doesn't have 4k which is why the sony a6300 is nice. I like the 4k capabilities and the 1080p 60fps. Really both cameras have similar photography capabilities. But I am disappointed that the sony a6300 doesn't have a touch screen and the numerous articles about sony a6300's over heating are worrisome as well as the poor button layout. Anyways, my question is which of these 2 packages is the better option for my needs as both are the same price and if you have a better option to recommend please let me know! Thank you very much and I hope to hear some replies soon as the deals are time sensitive. Thanks.

    There us a huge gulf between those willing and able to spend $3000+ for a camera/lens and those who's budget keeps them under a thousand. Someone at Canon seems to have recognized this and while they are taking heat (rightfully so) for lackluster upgrades to their top camera's they are just killing it in the entree level/beginners markets. Just about every new camera they are bringing out now has the same photo quality as the 80D despite the price point. Canon has also seemed to come up with a much more intiutive menu system then any other -especially Sony's. They may also control the semi-pro market more if the rumered specs for the 7D Mark III are true (30 megapixels with (finally!) no AA filter and under 2 grand). :)

Video on this camera uses a worse codec than cameras like the Canon 5D4 which means there is less detail and leaves the quality looking a little muddy...it's like adding a slight blur to sharp footage. They are the same quality for video...just some missing controls. There are bigger differences on the photo side with the autofocus system

      Great review. But could you suggest which is better of the two? Also sl3 is also in the market now.
