Are you a staff or an independent adjuster?
staff and i love it
@Justheadphones good for you
Independent
@@MoneyMattersLounge Nice!!
Starting out as a staff adjuster. Glad to come across your content
Love your vids Daniel.. however having been an IA for more than 20 years with a stint as a staff adjuster I can tell you that the work life balance of an IA is not better than staff.
If a person wants to make good money - in other words: make being an IA worth it - they’re going to have to work more than 8 hours a day and more than 5 days a week.
Staff adjusters can shut their computers and work phones off at 5pm Friday and ignore them until 8am Monday.
IAs are required to drop everything to go work cat at a moments notice. Meaning missing grandmas birthday at Outback Steakhouse. Etc.
@AdjusterTV good point....I would agree with you on several points. When I was a new adjuster, I busted tail, always answered the phone every time it rang, called every new claim within 5 minutes of the claim coming in, and worked well into the evenings. I realized that after doing this over and over, yes my numbers were great with the firm, but no reward was given. I basically was busting my tail for no reason. I decided to back it up a bit. I let my voicemail handle most calls, stopped answering emails and new assignments at 6 p.m., and pushed all of it to the next day. It was life-changing. As far as CAT work, I would agree with you, it is a crazy life and no amount of sanity exists during these events. Everyone has to tweak life sometimes, and what works for one, may not work for others. I remember staff work and it was low-paying, and disappointing, not to mention the politics (UGH!). Not interested in that. Just work on the balance, you will be able to figure it out one day. Life is not all about work, but about life and work. Thanks for your comment.
@@danieltheadjuster And I think it's only fair that we qualify what we're saying for the viewers: the work/life balance etc of being a cat IA is in a lot of cases exactly the same as it is for a STAFF catastrophe adjuster. Staff cat adjusters can work the same crazy hours and usually can't choose deployments/hours like an IA can.
In my previous comment I have to clarify that I was comparing staff daily/local adjusters with IA catastrophe adjusters and that's not really a fair comparison.
@AdjusterTV Yes, you are right
Staff adjuster here and I love it.
@omotosho22 Great!
I so want to get on as staff. This would be a career change for me. I’ve applied but haven’t passed the Travelers or SF assessment. Any suggestions? I’m not giving up. Thank you.
Is being an adjuster a recession proof career I am a mom and would like to enter this field but not as an independent or cat adjuster is there any line of adjuster that you recommend where I will make decent money and will always have a job no matter the economy or state I decide to move in?
It’s a hard question, because it just depends on what you’re doing as an adjuster. If you’re only working CAT Deployments, I feel like there are plenty of opportunities all over the country. I know people that are doing this and doing very well, but it does take some time to build that résumé.
As far as a Daily Adjuster, I never really saw my income go down in a recession, only from the lack of storms. This past year we didn’t have a really big hail storm in this area in the spring, so it really slow down the year for work . This was not due to the recession, it was due to the lack of storms. But every other year, it seems to be very good. Even during Covid, I was extremely busy.
Great video, Daniel! What would be the best path for a 60-year-old guy with 20+ years of experience as a contractor in the tile, flooring, and remodeling business? Or am I too old? I don't think I want to jump on the roof though :)
@thomasm..7336 Age is not a factor in this job. I believe work ethic is the most important. Desk adjusting is the best first start. They require this for everyone, but with your experience you can advance fast to field adjusting. You can handle flood and water claims, and never climb a roof. Lots of money to be made there!! Thanks for watching.
Good question!
How about a public adjuster? Is that worth pursuing?
@thomasm..7336 you can choose one route or the other. Meaning public Adjuster or Independent Adjuster but you cannot go back-and-forth. Public adjuster is a risky decision in my opinion, because if it doesn’t work out, you will not be able to be an independent. One of the questions that the firm asks, when you sign up with them, is, if you’ve ever been a public adjuster. The insurance company does not want to hire anyone that has been a public adjuster to start operating as an independent, but if you were to start as an independent, you are welcome to go to a public Adjuster if you so choose, with no problems.
Thank your responses. Daniel! Very appreciated!
