That was a great video. I actually have one of these Harbor Freight pumps that I saw at the store as well and was surprised at the performance. I use it to transfer water from 5 gallon water bottles to fresh water tank on my RV. I'm going to get another one to put on my Inflatable boat as a bilge pump
Thank you.I honestly didn't think this pump was going to hold up as well as it has. Since i've made this video i've pumped over 100 gallons of gasoline on top of what I did in this video and it's still working great! That's a really good idea to use as a bilge pump.
I'm going to be buying one of these and if needed I will just rig a hose at the end to reach the bottom. Thanks for the review otherwise I wouldn't realize until after trying to do something and then finding out it doesn't reach
Youâre very welcome! It might work it might not depending on how long your suction line is. At the minimum if you could get a good siphon going the pump should do its job of maintaining it. So far my pump has worked great although a few others it seems are having mixed results.
I have one as well and really like it! The pump and hose that goes into the gas tank is telescoping be pending how deep the tank is. Get a better set of batteries, I have used mine or some time and it still pumps like when the batteries were new.
Yes, if you look at the base it just has a small motor with an impeller. That has to be fully submerged. On my generator to fully drain it I usually have to disconnect the fuel hose, drain it the rest of the way, then run it dry. Hope that was able to help a little!
The tube on this is too large for that. This works by using a small electric motor with an impeller at the end of the tube. It has to be submerged in order to draw fluids.
I would say no. It really doesnât have enough power to lift much further than the length that itâs made. I will say that when we siphon our pool out for winter. (This is hard to explain in txt) but! If you put your hose completely in the water (while holding one end of course) let the hose fill completely with water. Put the end that you have in your hand under water until the bubbles stop coming out. Then put your thumb over it. You should be able to just pull the end out and it will self siphon. Donât take your thumb off until itâs below the water level though or it wonât work. Hope that makes sense!
I donât think this would work to good for that. You have to have the end of the pump submerged into the tank for it to pull the gasoline up through it. Even if you managed that by adding an extension hose I donât believe the pump would have enough lift to be able to draw the gasoline out.
Since i've posted this video i've at least ran another 100 gallons of gasoline through it and it's still working great! I've been very happy with this.
After talking to you and a few others I think i mightâve gotten lucky with this one. My dad bought one because I spoke so highly of it and he literally used it one time after that it was leaking. The one I have has literally had hundreds of gallons of fuel through it and still works!
This definitely wouldnât have enough lift for thick gear oil. I made a video a while back that Iâll link below of a pump that I use to do oil changes, Iâve also used it to do differential oil changes as well. The video is a of me changing the oil in a lawn mower, but I use this pump for all sorts of things. Can You Change Oil Without Draining | Lets Find Out! czcams.com/video/EzL-_NGvQPM/video.html
I've bought two and both were junk. . The worst one of all that I have tried. And I've tried a few. One worked twice and one would not pump right out of the box. .
I really looked into this a few years back. Some manufacturers recommend draining the tanks and running dry, while others recommend leaving tanks full and running stabilizer through everything. I think it depends on carb vs fuel injected, steel tank vs plastic tank etc.
It definitely wonât on the suction side. On the outlet side it could if you had it below the container you were pulling from. gravity would help the weak pump.
Can you get a small hose in there and siphon it out? I had to do that on my dadâs truck to change his fuel pump. It takes forever to siphon it out because of the small hose but itâs better than taking that tank down. I just used my mouth to get the siphon going. Gas burns so be careful if you go that route.
@@reallifetested2605 I will just go through the bed and then weld it back up I think it will be way easier than dropping the tank I literally just put a full tank of gas in so I am not too keen on the syphon method to be honest I will just cut it with a grinder and then Iâll have access to the pump
This thing definitely wouldnât do a good job on thicker fluids. Luckily mine is still kicking. It seems quality control is lacking on this. Itâs almost 50/50 for loving and hating on it.
thats a horrible pump. Walmart sells them as Hyper tough for $8. They seem to only work in syphon mode and can't lift liquid any more than 12 to 18" above the source level.
I've been using it a good bit and have been happy with it for my uses. You're right about it having bad lift though. It does lift ok when you have a set of fresh batteries in, but that's not for long.

Just got two of these for $7.99 each with a coupon. Used one to siphon out the nasty ass water from a water fountain in my backyard. Love it!
These things are awesome for the price! I have probably around 400 gallons or so of gas / diesel on this one now and it still works great.

I brought one. Used to winterizer both of jet skis work great still have batteries juice
Mine still works great as well. After talking to a few people on here it sounds like we got lucky! đ
Just picked one up today to empy a 20 gallon piss bucket at my buddy shop, cant wait to try it out tonight lol
Thatâs hilarious. Hopefully there isnât any poo in there to stop that bad boy up haha

I like mine too! From some of the comments it seems like we got really lucky with ours. Mine is still running strong.
@@reallifetested2605 Ya we maybe did but then again I find itâs very hard to please some people now a days.
I have a generator tank that has about two inches of fuel remaining. The pump is not drawing it out. Is the level of the fuel too low?
Yes, if you look at the base it just has a small motor with an impeller. That has to be fully submerged. On my generator to fully drain it I usually have to disconnect the fuel hose, drain it the rest of the way, then run it dry. Hope that was able to help a little!
120 gallons & mine just died.
Used it once a week to transfer 4 & half gallons of diesel .
The batteries last longer than the pump đ
Thatâs awful brother! Luckily mine is still going strong. I did have to start removing the batteries from it as it got a parasitic drain somehow.
Can we siphon fluid out of the car,oil out of the lawn mowers etc?
The tube on this is too large for that. This works by using a small electric motor with an impeller at the end of the tube. It has to be submerged in order to draw fluids.
You think this thing can pull on a garden hose to start a siphon to empty a pool?
I would say no. It really doesnât have enough power to lift much further than the length that itâs made. I will say that when we siphon our pool out for winter. (This is hard to explain in txt) but! Hey does this work for transferring old gas out of car ?
I donât think this would work to good for that. You have to have the end of the pump submerged into the tank for it to pull the gasoline up through it. Even if you managed that by adding an extension hose I donât believe the pump would have enough lift to be able to draw the gasoline out.
Well you just sold me on this little pump. Thx
Since i've posted this video i've at least ran another 100 gallons of gasoline through it and it's still working great! I've been very happy with this.
Can I used in case of flamable gas like petrol?
I double checked to verify and yes itâs safe for gasoline, diesel, and oils. Just nothing corrosive.
I do not hold angle iron like that I lay it flat to the base and put a spacer block between part movable jaw
Iâm not sure I understand? This video didnât include me with any angle iron.
I have had two of these pumps fail after pumping around 50 gallons of gas before the motor fails.
Oh no! So far I have been lucky. Mine has pumped well over 100 gallons at this point and still going strong. It does go through batteries though.
I bought one and use it twice and it broke try to send it back but I didnât have a receipt so I just threw it away and bought another brand
After talking to you and a few others I think i mightâve gotten lucky with this one. My dad bought one because I spoke so highly of it and he literally used it one time after that it was leaking. The one I have has literally had hundreds of gallons of fuel through it and still works!
2:38 that's what she said
lmfao I thought I knew the part you were talking about at 0:27 and didn't realize I did that twice! That's hilarious.
Do you know if this will work with rear differential gear oil changes ?

Those batteries suck avoid any heavy duty batteries and get the cheapest alkaline battery they have like 3 times to 6 times the power
Alkaline does have more capacity than the zinc chloride equivalent. It would be interesting to see the runtime differences between the two.
Don't buy the hand pump with no battery from Harbor freight, I tried to get gas out of a car I was going to junk, No Dice!
My dad said the same thing. He was going to use the one youâre talking about for kerosene and it cracked when he pressed on the bulb.
