I keep meeting women who express that if your text messages are green, then it's a dealbreaker. Weird culture.
Not worth knowing them then. Shallow enough to be of the belief if you don't have an Iphone you don't have money and not realising the only reason text/photos are crap when sent from an Android phone is Apple's choice. It tends to be a US thing as I'd never even heard of this except online.

As someone who works in I.T and is surrounded by people in similar positions... we cannot stand Apple devices. At all.
Nothing makes me groan more than having to explain to a Macbook owner why their Macbook doesn't have the same functionality on their corporate printers as other users because the only available driver for said printer on Mac OS is a postscript one.
Those same arguments happen with linux as well - as someone also working in IT. Not every manufacturer makes drivers fro every os. Just like I can't take a hellcat engine and just bolt it in a camaro. Or play playstation games on an xbox. While I completely agree to force them to use RCS, I have used both and price can't be the argument becasue a galaxy flagship and an iphone flagship cost the same. As I have used both apple and android as well as macos and windows daily, I like the consistancy of apple products and I have learned to work on them. I don't care for all the openness of android. None of my samsung devices when I had them communicate as well as my apple equivalent devices. I even still have my original galaxy watch as well as an apple watch that I use interchangingly. My thing is if you want freedom and flexibility not aforded by apple then don't buy an apple but it is ridiculous to force a company to be an open platform if it doesn't want to be. The other issue is if it's forced to be open and then the end user makes decisions with it that makes the user experience bad, then they blame the company of the device for a poor experience when they have nothing to do with the user making stupid decisions and wrecking their own experience. It's about protecting the 'brand'. Chevy, Dodge, and Ford aren't compatible with each other and provide their own user experience. Where is the cry for that? Can't just slap an LS1 into a Porche 911. And to price, Chevy/Cadillac Suburban/Escalade. Nearly identical drive train but the same parts are more expensive on the escalade just for the name. Som apple isn't the only one doing it.
@@jtlatitude They are trying to monopolize. That is the problem. I saw an ad from Apple a few weeks ago telling people to bring in any Android device for a substantial discounted iPhone or a free one. They know what they're doing. The RCS thing is important but it is obvious that iPhone is going out of their way to take over the market for profit. Is it wrong for them to want more money, no. However, there are laws put in place to restrict such things, which is why the suit exists.

Like no bud. I hate to break it to you. But you're swindled.
To be fair you’re both right, however, it doesn’t help or change the fact that the image quality improves significantly when it’s between two iPhones, it’s like apple made it look bad when it comes from an android on purpose.
Do you talk about iMessage? WhatsApp *always* compresses images to worse resolution and settings.
@@VADemon I get way better video out of WhatsApp when what goes back and forth between iMessage and Messages on Android. I mean I solve it by sharing from photos and they get the Photos link/player for videos.

One thing I like about Apple is that the company getting sued or being in trouble generally means we, Apple consumers, end up getting better products.
Well if it means you get a product that uses modern texting features outside the Apple 'bubble' and you can actually send and receive pictures in the original quality for outside the 'bubble' then yes, that would be an improvement. But something that everything else does by default anyway.
100% agree. So many people keep claiming that because Android exists that there's competition, but they're missing a whole lot in that argument. Apple has a monopoly in their particular ecosystem and there's absolutely no breaking through it without legal intervention from the government at this point in time. One might say just don't buy one, but for whatever reason they had, the people using such devices are now locked in. It's incredibly difficult to transfer your data out of a locked in ecosystem when you're not technologically savvy, and most aren't.
But how is what apple does with it's marketplace and apps any different than say Sony and MS with Xbox and Playstation systems? That's where I'm having this disconnect. Shouldn't all gaming console platforms fall under this same scrutiny or is it just because people have this insane cult like behavior with iphones (which with how console fanboys act I don't see the difference there either).
@@BlackTestament7 That's just it, they aren't different. Every exclusive game for a given platform is one of those pieces of lock-in. The only aspect where consoles should get a pass on this is where you have cross-platform games. In all other respects they are a monopoly.

Would love to muta and John prosper have a talk about this topic. All good points on both sides
I was never a fan of Apple, then I started developing apps for Android (talking the early days of Android, was on my T-Mobile G1) and decided, hey why not port this app to iOS. I was making a little money of ad revenue, so why not. Then I learned that it a) required me to own a Mac (I was a gamer and gaming back then wasn't that great on Mac, not to mention a poor college student) and b) required $100 PER YEAR to be a developer. That second point made me swear off ever even bothering with iOS.
One counter point I've heard to Apple adopting RCS is that Google has used RCS as a means to force carriers to contract the use of Google's services for encryption, as the encryption protocol for RCS is not open and only maintained by Google. Supposedly Apple would have been willing to adopt RCS if the encryption portion of the protocol was truly open. I have no clue how true that is. It's just something I've heard from people with far more knowledge on the subject than me (Theo).
If apple adopts rcs it's going to be the unencrypted version or their own fork of rcs. It will probably do what takes less work and just keep the non end to end encrypted version of rcs because when it comes down to security for the consumer, apple doesn't give two shits.
Gaming now on a Mac is still laughable, for the price you pay for a Mac, if your main goal is to play games, either buy a pre-build PC, can easily get a PC that runs most games at atleast 1080p 60fps for around 800 euro, cheaper than any Macbook or iMac, also, you generally get much more RAM and storage space. (the pre-builds i've seen generally come with a 500GB SSD, with Apple? you gotta pay 200-300 more just for that kind of storage space)
let's not forget, for example FF14 recently announced their newest expansion Dawntrail, which comes with a graphical update, they listed both Windows and Mac specs, for windows it was fairly simple but you had to likely google it just incase (not a big issue)
for Mac? only the 2021 and onward Macbook pro's and iMac were able to run the game, a game from btw 2010! now getting a graphical update and requiring at a minimum an RT960 and recommended is a RTX 2060, RTX 2060 alone is like 200-250 nowadays? I bought my 2060 super way back when for ... 350 euro.

I get that this is all about stopping Apple from making it unreasonably difficult to shift to android and being generally anti-competition, but I don't really understand the whole "let users download other app stores other than the appstore on iphone". Does that mean that Nintendo, XBox, Playstation should be forced to allow other game stores to be put on their consoles instead of just having their respective game stores?
Sounds awesome tbh
1. yes
2. antitrust requires a monopoly criteria. because PC and mobile exist as platforms for gaming (and by their nature they are very open) it's hard to go after consoles for antitrust.

@@aeghohloechu5022 2. Surely android existing is a parallel to PC in this situation.

It's no great conspiracy though. The size limits on MMS are pretty small compared to something like iMessage, so the compression is typically far greater. Plus, with higher resolution cameras on phones these days, your photos are going to get even more compressed to make it work over MMS since the file sizes are bigger than they used to be.

Apple's walled garden is a selling point and feature to many people. If you want to use alternative app stores, purchase a phone that lets you do that.
I think something people need to realize with this, Apple is just a very noticable version of doing this. They are big in the public eye. This has caused a lot of people to use bad software and hardware at a higher price. Imagine for a moment how many other companies are selling you a bad products and services while also gaslighting you into thinking that any other option is worse while also crushing those other options like this.
I don't expect everyone to have a finger on the pulse of all subjects, but we really need stronger consumer protections and educating people for better consumer awareness.
Microsoft Outlook is one of the worst applications I have ever used and if you google it, you find pretty much exclusively negative reviews. Nobody likes it, and yet it’s the standard because there is no competitor + it gets bundled in with companies buying Microsoft 365 subscriptions.
If people did more research, this issue would be rectified. Everyone wants to do the easy thing and listen to hearsay instead of using their own brains. It's peoples faults' for falling into consumer traps. The only people I forgive are the elderly.
Over 60% of US mobile phone users have iPhones. Freely available info if you search it. That basically means even many people living in trailer parks, or squatting in abandoned houses in Detroit, will spend at least $400 on a second-hand Apple phone before they will buy a new Android device that is 95% as good, and not locked-down, for $150. Weird peoples.
People buying a phone, the horror
Not really the smartest country.
Maybe because the platform is better and more enjoyable for the average phone user
So what? Do you want to force people to buy something different just because you don`t like what they are buying now? Let people use their money freely.
I'd say it's more about the culture, than what the device itself is offering.
This lawsuit is good but it could be way better. The largest problem with this debate: it is *pitting Apple & its fans* vs *Android & its fans.*
This divides people and focuses on the wrong issues. The fight we should take on is *manufacturers* vs *consumers.*
The point is: _CUSTOMERS MUST HAVE CHOICES._
Why did virtually all phones lose repairability? Why cannot I easily install another OS on an iPhone, Samsung or a Huawei? Why do app stores charge so much money to developers? Why is there so much bloat, adware and spying even on flagship models? There are lots of deceptive practices. With a class-action lawsuit, we could force companies to give users the _choice_ to use a messaging system they want, with an OS they want, with phone hardware they want, with a wearable device they want. You can still be a fanboy and stay within the Apple or Google ecosystem, with their respective hardware, software and services, or mix and match to make all the _choices_ you want.
I concede that I would probably go for an iPhone's hardware (or Nokia's in the early 2010s) if I could install an open Android fork on it. But guess what, they don't let me!
The companies that engage in "competition" are both screwing their users and this lawsuit, as well as anti-Android or anti-Apple attitude of fans, just play into their divide-and-conquer strategy. They tolerate and support each other's monopoly on their respective target demographics, and customers end up pulling the short end of the stick.
