  • Having had over 20 piercings over the last 20 years, and 4 currently on my face, I discuss the changing culture of body piercings and whether these expensive new fine jewelry companies for body piercings are worth the money.

BVLA has the most gorgeous jewellry and while I agree that it's great to see more diversity when it comes to piercings, it's also a bit of a shame that it hasn't really spread to more affordable pieces. It's either all high end 14k gold, etc or surgical steel from what I've seen. (Which I'll never quite understand- most piercers here will use titanium for a fresh piercing because the chances of an allergic reaction are super low. Surgical steel on the other hand does contain nickel so everyone with an allergy is just pretty limited in what they can wear if they don't want to or can't affort the high end stuff)

I agree... I would be really nice to see them make some more affordable pieces... and yes, in titanium. Maybe in the future, since they paved the way for high-end body jewelry, they'll expand into that. In the meantime I think Neometal and Anatometal has some pretty affordable higher-end pieces, and in titanium too! Just not quite as beautiful as BVLA (in my opinion).

Then I don't know what you're doing, because there's tons and tons of titanium options. And not plain ones.

    •  Před 3 lety +1

You can watch out for Industrial Strength, Anatometal oder Neometal who are offering very high quality and affordable titanium jewelry too since the early 90s ;-)

Love this video! This is something I was thinking about a few months ago. When I got my first piercings back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s I was told there was no such thing as “fancy jewelry”. Now all I want to wear is BVLA lol. I have the same piece you have in your philtrum in my conch, just a different stone.

Amazing how the culture has changed, isn't it! The only downside of BVLA is that I want their pieces for all my piercings. Looks like we have the same great taste ;)

I started getting more piercings and am only investing in genuine gold and diamond pieces. BVLA is doing much of my threadless jewelry and tiny hoops. Totally worth every dollar. Great video!!

I completely agree with you, BVLA has the most amazingly gorgeous and high quality body jewelry out there!! I have several pieces and they’re stunning!!! They’re on the pricier side, but they’re definitely well worth it. Once I purchased my first piece of theirs, I’ve been hooked ever since !!! Love this video of yours and how enthusiastic you are about body jewelry and piercings I too share both of those!!

Another bonus of the threadless system is, when you have a really tiny piece, it's so, so much less fidldy to actually install, for yourself and your piercer!

We've found exactly the same in the UK. My wife has had her nose piercing for about 15 years too and wouldn't want to wear the cheap jewellery she did when she first got it. She wants to be wearing something that compares to the other jewellery she wears in terms of quality. There's outlets we use here that will custom design items too so you can get something unique. Cheap nose studs always seemed to fall out or just not fit well either! It gives me a present option too that I didn't used to have - I can buy her something that's really good quality that I know she'll like. I've bought her a few in the last few years so shw switches between studd with different gems and hoops depending on where she's going etc.

So true... why would I wear cheap jewelry in my face and body piercings when my earrings, necklaces, and rings are all high quality? It opens up a whole new world to those of us who love our 'less-mainstream' piercings and want to keep them for the long haul. It's about time this kind of variety became available! Happy holidays to you and your family, Steve!

@@WillowWisteria My wife wants to keep her nose piercing indefinitely and having nice jewellery is a part of her decision to keep it.
Flip side is how much I paid for some pink sapphire bars for her nipple piercings - I actually paid more for those than her engagement ring!
      Merry Christmas to you too.

If i ever have kids, my body jewelry are now investments. It can always be melted down when im long gone for value. Dont cheap out, its not different than buying rings/watches/earrings.
I hope this brings a different perspective ❤️

I got my multiple lobes and helix pierced in the mid 90s. I never liked the steel jewelry that was on offer back then, but I put up with it because I loved my piercings. After about 15 years I took most of them out because my style changed and all that metal in my ears just didn't suit me anymore. But I missed my piercings. It was only recently that I realized there is now beautiful, sophisticated body jewelry. So I'm back at it, age 43. Last week I got a double helix and forward helix on my left ear, and once they heal I want a daith on my right. I'm so happy we now have all these options and different styles.

I won't do surgical steel due to a severe nickel allergy but I would rather have anodized titanium in gold or rose gold than actual gold, not only because of the price but because titanium is lighter and better for healing. In Brazil, titanium body jewelry is still pretty expensive, but I actually love the experience of saving up money and then treating myself to something that I know I'm going to be able to heal and that will last me a lifetime - not to mention that it's possible to find really beautiful, super chic stuff in titanium. My first few piercings all rejected and never healed due to my allergy, at the time I didn't realize that surgical steel had nickel in it and simply assumed that my body hated piercings lol after years of wanting piercings but fearing the healing process, it has been amazing to find a piercer who explained all of these things to me and helped me pick the jewelry that best suited my body!

wow! thats amazing jewelry! and it suits you very well!!! i‘ll invest in some white gold ends for my double nostrils, but im not sure what to get-i really like the white gold luxe ends from maya but i also really like the (im not sure if its the right name, but i believe it is) milgrain pears or the afghan ends from BVLA....decisions decisions :)
sadly i couldnt get such pretty ends for my philtrum because its stretched to a 00g but luckily there are tons of beautiful stones and glass pieces for stretched labrets and philtrum piercings :)

      @WillowWisteria  Před 5 lety +2

Thank you! That's the only bad part about getting into these high-end pieces... they're all so pretty it's hard to choose! It took me a while messing around with cheap jewelry to figure out the size and style that I love the best before investing in the expensive pieces. And I agree with the gauged jewelry - My ears are stretched to 1/2" and I love wearing all the beautiful stone pieces. I think the stone pieces in gauged piercings compliment the more delicate gold ends as well. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your beautiful white gold clicker!

I will hopefully buy a septum ring from BVLA which cost more than $1100 but it's ultimately the MOST BEAUTIFUL septum jewelry I've ever seen ! It's very expensive but I really want a septum jewelry that is immensely beautiful and that I can wear for a lifetime. It's so original aside from being magnificent.

I just found your channel, and i really enjoyed this video. I have a great jewelry "hack" for gold body jewelry. 😉
It started when I inherited my moms old gold after she passed. She had lots of gold & gemstone studs that she'd lost the pair to, or had been broken. Gold & gemstone studs make great nose rings, especially if they have the screw on backings! I currently wear a genuine white opal/ gold elephant nose stud! If you want to shop, i suggest looking at pawn shops or smaller jewelry stores (esp. in not so nice neighborhoods); their prices are usually cheaper than going into high end, or chain retailers like Kay or Zales. Ive never spent more than $150 on a pair of studs, often less if you haggle with the shop for multiple pieces. There's great deals on single small hoops that dont have a pair, can be used as septum rings!
As for broken jewelry, or single small hoops, you can have a jeweler fix them to be clickers or custom made to what you want, by recycling old pieces. The easier the modifications, the cheaper the price. You can have gems added and you can design your own custom pieces!🤩 Im in the process of making a gold/ diamond septum clicker with my moms old hoop earrings . I've been quoted at $175, for a one of a kind piece! Nowhere near the $2k price tag of some shops!!!😄 I just left a regular clicker with the jeweler so they know what i want the closure mechanism to be.
Hope this helps make precious jewelry more accessible to someone! These can be heirloom/ investment pieces to last a lifetime and beyond! 🖤🖤🖤

I got my first nostril piercing 24 years ago. In the beginning I rarely saw anyone else with one. If I saw one person a year it was a lot. Then there was the way people viewed them/ me. I was in the mall one time and a man pulled his son away from me and walked quickly away from all while staring at me.
Things really have changed a lot . . . For the better.

Late to the party, but I got my first cartilage piercing in early 2010s when I was in college but I quickly lost interest because 1. I was a poor college student (could not buy expensive pieces), 2. healing cartilage was more difficult than I expected 3. those stainless steel pieces were boring as hell. (Also I think those mystery metals delayed my healing and I went to some shady piercers, knowing nothing) Fast forward, now I am in my early 30’s, I am getting all my piercings re-done after discovering a great APP piercer near me who stocks Modern Mood, BVLA, Buddha Jewelry, etc.. It’s definitely hurting my wallet but I do make my own salary now and it’s so worth it haha
