  • This is the first attempt of using the powder coating system from Harbor freight. There’s a learning curve and in the video I go through some of that learning curve. In the end I’m very happy with the result. Hopefully if you watch the video you’re learning curve will be even less than mine.

    This thing really works well... I have used it for a ton of projects with an oven I got from Eastwood... the powder is fair... faded over time in the sun. Other powder I have purchased has held up better... overall, a good value and works as advertised!

    Bud clip ground on the wire you are hanging yr part from it will help you a lot. Also only fill powder 1/2 full with 5psi-8psi

      I forgot when u make a mistake like that so u can see clear streaks do a light scuff on that whole side of the part and revisit whole side for even cost

    The harbor freight powder bottles are the same as the old Sears bottles. I’m not sure who actually makes it. I think it’s numb that they don’t fit, but a full bottle is to much. Fill about half way.
    There’s two golden rules with powder coating: 1) part has to be spotlessly clean. No dirt, rust or oil’s trapped under the coating. 2). Have the right heat setting for the right amount of time. Heat and time has windows such as 20 minutes means 18 - 24, and heat 400 means 385 - 415.
    The time and heat are examples not exacts. Think about what’s happening in the process. The coating is an ultra fine polymer. On the part it melts and bonds to the crevasses in the part and to itself. Like cooking candy; at the right time and heat it goes from soft and playable to harder and ridged.
    To little heat and the bonds are weak and the coating is soft, to much heat and time the coating becomes brittle.
    Sorry to ramble. But to show how forgiving it it, I powdercoated rims by dry stacking cement blocks on the ground and hanging an oven element inside and covered it with sheet metal. Some experimenting and an caution and the rims are still perfect five years later!
    Great video! Careful, powder coating is addictive. Soon you’ll want a bigger oven and more stuff! Oh, Prizmatic Powders has the best powder IMO.

    dont know if you figured it out allready? But some other guys on youtube said you should not fill the bottle too high, then it keeps dropping big gobs of powder. Also if you find that you get better result by squeezing the trigger less then you should turn the pressure down on the regulator as that is what you prettymuch do with squeezing the trigger les as wel.

    Ok , i worked at and im ashamed to say it now delta shita faucet but i know how to powder coat let me help you out. 1.2 PSI , oven ok if you want but for that a simple heat gun would have done it. Thick powder coating then you need 300 to 350 for 5 to more , the thickness of the metal will decide the length of time as well as the type of metal

      plug it into a wall outlet... you also need a compressor, the powder is projected by air and attracted to the part by static electricity.

    • @livefree6878
      @livefree6878  Před 4 lety

      That’s a really cool idea, here’s my untested thought. If the hang wire is metal and if the ground connection is strong enough while hanging the part on it then it should work. My concern is that it won’t be a strong enough ground connection. If there is a way to connect your ground securely in a place that doesn’t need to be powder coated, I think this would be the best overall solution, because you can ensure a solid ground connection. Next time we or powder coating I’ll want to try this. You’ll know if there’s not a good ground connection because the powder won’t stick. Hope this helps

    • @ls4.8frank
      @ls4.8frank Před 4 lety +1

      @@livefree6878 it does not matter if your wire is metal or copper. You should clip the alligator clip from the machine to your wire or hook (needs to be metal) instead of to your part that you are powder coating. Don't overthink this process, but make sure you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS to figure out all the adjustments that may or may not need to be made.

    You definitely did every thing wrong, first off should gas out, sand blast, then coat. Don't touch the part with your hands you will contaminate the surface. A part that big you need a bigger oven so you don't bump the part. The part needs to hit 400 before you start the recommended curr time . Not being a dick just helpful info. Also your compressor should have a regulator on it turn your air down you wasted all that powder becuase you gun is blowing out way to much powder. Good luck and keep practicing and learning .
