- Attempting to powder coat the steering wheels we cast out of aluminum last week. I bought the cheapest system I could find (that didn't look like a toy) to see if it works.

I'm going to love this channel! It has metal working, woodworking, machining and electronics.
Glad to have you along!
Great channel! Thanks for the stickers!
Thank you!
Wow I like how the powder coat looks đ and I really like how you modified the oven with that cool control unit thatâs awesome đ
Thanks đ
Nice video Pete. Have a good time at Gibtown!
Thanks, will do!
That came out great! I like the modified toaster.
Thanks!
Wish he would do a video on how he modified it
looks cool be a great day when the ride all finished
Sure will....
Nice episode....not been on in awhile. Love powder coating process and that unit was a good buy!
Welcome back!
@@PeteRondeau I am getting shut out on these dark ride buys...Staples has the one from Rye being built up at Niagra now. Your observation on the show was correct..but I from an old tradeshow decorating business as was referred too...reason we sold.
Great video the project is coming along very nice
Thanks đ
Pretty cool. I definitely want to get into powder coating for some projects I have in mind. The oven was always what held me back.. wanted to be able to do parts larger than just a home oven would hold.. but also didn't really have space for a dedicated giant oven..
I saw a video where a guy was using something that looked like an electric smoker cabinet. Ttaller and narrower than a regular home oven. That seemed like a promising size to me.
@@PeteRondeau Yeah, I went looking after I made this comment and saved a couple of 'smoker powder coating oven for under $200' videos to watch later.
Looks like it came out pretty good Pete.
Yeah, I'm very happy with it.
Drone shot of the ferris wheel? Or do you have a jetpack you've been hiding? LOL!
Why not both?
It looks good to me! Once you get the setup to your liking, it should go smoothly. I am looking forward to the finished product, however long it takes! Enjoy the trade show.
You and me both!
If something got scratched after it was powder coated just a small area, is it possible to spot fix it right there to prep over the area with metal reinforced filler then sand and powder paint, but instead of using a oven use a heat gun just on that area or heat lamp?
Bravo đ
looking good takeing a break from SB preshow i only did sandblasting a cupple times extraction hood makes a difference old kitchen exhoust fan might work
Yeah, i think I can make my existing hood work, just need to make a box to help contain the air flow I think.
Can you make a video about the rockstar ride getting setup
Shrinkage đ The powder coating looks fantastic! And Iâd love to know how you make PCBs, I never knew it could be done at home.
Well, it would be more correct to say that I use the oven to re-flow the solder to attach the components to the circuit board.
@@PeteRondeau Fair enough haha
Have fun at the show
thanks Tom!
Nice work on that spray coating Peteđ¶âđ«ïžđ·that stuff is not good to breathe
The powder Coating looks great. Iâm impressed with the results.
Thank you!
How do you fit in the car with the steering wheel been that small Lol đ
I think the results of the powder coating looks promising. I'm sure next time you will have it tip top.
I hope so!
If u get tired of doing all the powder coating let me know I can do that for u at my job!! I actually powder coat parts for spiral stairs n would gladly help u out if needed
Price
The powder coating is very interesting, thought a setup would be way more expensive. If you need a 3D model of the wheel hit me up with the measurements, I can do a quick model in OpenSCAD or blender for you for free.
I will keep that in mind!
Hi I enjoy your videos what day you going to be at Gibtown
Should be there on Thursday
Hang your parts on a wire away from other conductors. Prre-heat the part to 400F and spray them hot, it will melt on contact. Post back for 20 minutes. The powder will be attracted to the nearest bare surface but once insulated by a coat of powder the powder will wrap around and coat the back to a surprising extent. You still need to spray front and back. Inside corners repel the powder then turn off the HV to force some into the corner. Re-spray, re-bake is generally undesirable and gives poor results.
Use a spoon and eliminate the mess ...
ah... try not handling subject with your oily hands... use gloves.
