- Chapter 6: Arms Race
After freeing the Vortigaunt, Alyx continues to inch her way closer and closer to the Vault while it works to liberate the other substations powering the massive structure. However, Combine have begun swarming into the QZ en masse, including heavy units known as Suppressors. With no direct path to the Vault, she must worm and fight her way through a long abandoned construction site in hopes of getting closer to it.

Notes:
- Shooting at the Combine Captain at 2:21 will prompt him to return fire, then retreat through the hallway
- The Combine Suppressor (8:35) is a newly introduced heavy Combine unit that prefers to stay back and shower Alyx with minigun fire. The gun itself appears to be Pulse-fed and the soldier carries ammo packs on his back
- The tripmines at 23:38 can be triggered by throwing a prop at them from around the corner, as opposed to having to defuse them
- I did not use the Fabricator at 37:54 because I am saving up for the SMG's Extended Magazine
Trivia:
- At 4:21, Russell mentions Eli's missing leg. He lost it to a Bullsquid while helping Kleiner get into City 17, according to the HL2 book Raising the Bar
- It can be noticed that the sun is starting to set during this chapter (6:27). This is similar to the events of the chapter Water Hazard in HL2, where the sun progressively got lower and lower as Freeman makes his way to Eli's lab
- At 13:14, an unmasked Combine Grunt can be seen. It can be observed that they lack eyes and their skin has been discoloured due to the extensive genetic modifications
- The song that plays & loops at 24:48 is called "Steam in the Pipes", and previously played in HL1 in "Lambda Core" when the portal to Xen is warming up, and also in HL2 as "Negative Pressure" in the chapter "Our Benefactors" when Freeman is making his way to Breen's office
- The tripmine room at 24:48 is a direct callback to HL1's explosives room in the chapter "Surface Tension", as well as the tripwire room in the Nexus Building in HL2, and the vent trap in HL2EP2's "Urban Flight" chapter
- The area shown at 28:48 was used as the map for Valve's third gameplay video of the game, though the enemies encountered have been changed since
"Wait... Shotgun grenade launcher?"

One of my favourite upgrades for sure. Though a full decked out Alyx Gun is awesome as well :)
Sorry for the length, the entire chapter is only one map and I figured it'd be better to keep it as one video rather than split it unnecessarily. With all the Combine encounters, this has been a pain to record but hope y'all enjoy! Looking forward to Jeff in the next chapter :)

The shootout sequence at 18:30 is probably some of the most fun I've ever head shooting up enemies in a video game.
Indeed, that background track accompanies the battle so well too.

30:24 Alyx Vance, 19-year old rebel commando. Wipes out entire Combine strike groups, survives highly dangerous environments, kills a bunch of Advisors in a train accident, too cool to use anything heavier than SMGs. Also - doesn't know anything about vodka. Eli, old man, what were you thinking? Poor Alyx is totally unprepared to adulthood!
P.S. I guess 99% of booze were gone in first couple of months after Combine invasion. Some people probably drank themselves to death. Much better fate than becoming zombie, stalker or Combine's puppet soldier.
In the Northern Star you can see a bunch of corpses just chilling in the bathtubs. I'm assuming those guys killed themselves rather than live through the oppression of the Combine. Pretty tragic :(

I just though of something.
What if that HECU soldier from that tripmine room in surface tension turned into a combine soldier and placed it in this room? Or maybe he’s still roaming around as a regular marine and that’s all.
Funny to think about for sure. Even after the brainwashing if he did turn into a Combine, he still remembered exactly how to make a tripmine maze haha

The video length is fine, we can watch it in two swegments if we want, or 3..or however many we need. What matters is your making a really quality walkthrough here, and I'm learning about a game i'll likely never play. I even got use to the wonkyness of the VR over time, though its still weird she's got no arms.
Glad you're still enjoying this series! Yeah, VR takes a while to get used to for sure. I myself got VR motion sickness the first time I ran through this game. Took a while to feel comfortable playing it for extended periods of time.

hehe, I know it's harder to think when you're playing the game, but throwing away those two syringes on low health was painful to see lol

In beta versions of the HL Plot, Eli tells Gordon he lost his leg due to studying the behaviour of the portal storm he witnessed for the first time. But it would've been cool if that story of the Bullsquid were told directly on this game (Or HL2)
