- Chapter 10: Breaking and Entering
Now at the Vault's doorstep, Alyx climbs the tower containing the emergency backup keeping it in the air. She manages to disable it, albeit causing the Vault to dramatically crash-land at the same time. Emerging from the rubble, she must navigate the ruins of a destroyed parking garage and contend with one of the Combine's most deadliest assault synths in order to enter the Vault itself.

Notes:
- It is possible to enter the vent at 7:52 in true Gordon Freeman fashion, although to do so the player would need to physically crawl in (movement using the controllers won't work). At the end, there is a headcrab and 1 resin
- I used the Fabricator at 9:28 and obtained the Reflex Sight for the SMG for completion's sake, though I hardly ever use it because the laser sight is a much better alternative
- As far as I know, there is no actual way to successfully dock the Vault to the bridge (22:53)
- It's not necessary to kill the Combine soldiers at 36:40, Alyx can just ignore them and proceed onwards
- For some reason Russell does not say anything when Alyx gets on the grenade launcher at 38:55 in my save. He typically shouts encouragement at Alyx as she guns down the Strider
- The Strider will eventually use its warp cannon against Alyx if she doesn't kill it with the grenade launcher fast enough
Trivia:
- The track that plays at 1:45 also played in HL2 during the chapter Route Kanal, under the name "Zero Point Energy Field"
- The Antlion Nest seen in the trainyard at 18:34 is the same one that Alyx travels through in the previous chapter
- The Strider that wakes up at 31:47 seems to be injured already, as evident by the damage on its carapace. It also gets set on fire after using its warp cannon at 36:32
- The Strider in this game is seen being much more resourceful than in previous titles. It clears a hole with its head to get a better shot at Alyx at 33:23, and uses its legs to break the wall at 38:09
- The Combine Captain at 33:53 will play a specific stumble animation off the hood of the car if shot while on it
- The Strider's warp cannon sounds much different than in previous titles (36:26). It also doesn't distort the area around its cannon before firing anymore
- 40:43 - just like in HL2's penultimate chapter (Our Benefactors), Alyx loses all her weapons with the exception of the Gravity Gloves (whereas Gordon keeps his Gravity Gun)
- Eli's cut-off warning to Alyx at 41:00 mirrors a similar moment in HL2 when Eli warns Alyx not to let Gordon through to Ravenholm - Hry

I weirdly wish the last few soldiers weren't optional to fight. It's such a cool scene, trying to shoot them with the Strider standing above. Also you STABBED that needle into your hand!!!
Yeah, that would've been cool. I meant to jam it near my "wrist" but I guess the adrenaline got the better of me!
Sorry for the delay in getting this chapter up, there's a bunch of combat encounters and those ones are the hardest to get a good recording of. It's been a long journey but there's only one chapter left, and it's 90% story so I don't see any major issues in having the next chapter up in the next couple of days. I do have some plans after I finish this playthrough but I'll talk about that in the next video :)
for some reasons in 36:26 it gives me a callback in Half - Life 2 in E3 where Alyx warn Kleiner and Gorodn about Combine ambush the Kleiner Lab.
I remember that exact moment when you mentioned it. So cool.

33:53 Huh! When the combine falls off the car and tries to get back up I think that is a custom animation JUST for that moment because I have not seen that anywhere else or seen anyone else trigger that animation even in this fight
Yeah I think so too, I was able to trigger it repeatedly just by damaging him while he's on the hood of the car
I don't like how the combine illegally invaded earth.
Imagine the day Half-life 2 series and Half-life 1 remake in Source 2, would be beautiful and epic.
I want to see Half-life 2 city and citizen in Source 2 graphic and assets so bad, back in the day hardwares was limited so Valve can't make city look detailed like in HL Alyx. Kinda surprise that no team founded to make it, only a couple of HL 2 maps were made.
Yeah, I'd love a re-imagining of Half-Life 2 in Source 2, just like Black Mesa. Though I think HL2 aged a lot better than HL1 in terms of graphical fidelity. Perhaps it's too ambitious of an undertaking for many.

Five years after this battle, I guess the Striders still couldn't shoot through thin pieces of sheet metal, as shown in the final battle in HL2:EP1 ;)

There is, but you need to find a lot - I think I missed a couple that prevented me from fully upgrading everything.

I still can't go that idea and thoughts how many Valve lost and HL:Alyx itself without soundtrack and musical environment by Kelly Bailey. Just look, hear and notice how incredible fits all his old works even here and how pathetic and mainstreamely sounds all other works comparing to them. Kelly Bailey's music design always sounds so intrigue and with that unique cold-vibe. Pure genius to make sounshapes from total minimalistic elements.
Kelly Bailey is great, but I don't agree with disregarding Mike Morasky's work here as "pathetic". He did some great sound and music work in this game.
