      Back to Diablo 4 and WoW 1440P. Starfield, I got bored at the intro. I think it's great there are more GPUs 7800XT sounds good. Still 12700KF 7900XTX. I really do love the not having to care about vram or whatever, only a 4090/5090 next year would be a little bit better theoretically, maybe a few fps more in all games. I could see 7600/X for new builders.

      I have an AMD 5900x and for highly modded minecraft and fusion360 which are single threaded the FPS collapses as the CPU gets maxed out mid game. I am looking at a 7900 series setup as an upgrade. Which of the variations on the 7900 is best suited to these 2 apps? (The AM4 setup replaces my home server which is dying) I have a 2700s GPU and will upgrade it later (xmas) though I dont think its a GPU problem.

      PC Case wise I would go with the Montech 903 AIR MAX. 3 ARGB Fans with a 4th non rgb exhaust fan. Built in RGB Controller. I have my 5900X and 7900 XTX in that case and its amazing. Plus only $75 for the case. Also, it says 360mm radiator max but I easily put in a Corsair 420mm AIO. No modification. Overkill? Maybe. Lol. But in prime 95 i dont even hit 60c with that monster cooler.
      But the Montech 903 AIR MAX is the best mid tower case ive used so far. JTC did a great review of it as well.

    The other crazy thing is that the 5700X is so close in performance to the 5800X and really not that far off from the 5800X3D, but it is so much cheaper and runs cooler. If someone is on a budget, and can't afford an insane GPU that is going to be bottle necked, the 5700X makes a lot of sense. Great suggestions!

      @Dazzxp Před 10 měsíci +5

      5800x3D runs very cool if... you optimise it, just don't use the stock configuration but you need to use AMD curve optimizer, you will loose 50Mhz on the boost of 4.5Ghz but you will get 4.35Ghz (AVX) - 4.45Ghz all core and your temps will drop like crazy with a -30 negative offset. Thats how i configured my 5800x3D gaming and all core workloads i get 4.45Ghz, in games it barely hits 50C and all core workloads 62C, i also set the TDP to 70 (100/70/100).
      So you loose 1.1% single core frequency but gain 4.7% all core frequency for -33% less power and in turn temperatures. Since you now have very consistent clocks 0.1 and 1% lows in games are greatly increased as are the average frame rates due to the CPU clocks not bouncing around. The threads are not being moved from one core to another as typically under stock they are moved from the fastest core to the next fastest when that core hit's it's temperature/voltage threshold.
      The reviews you are seeing for the 5800x3D are using stock which is why it doesn't look anyway near as impressive, technically you could do the same with the 5700/5800X but as they run at higher clock speeds and thus need more power to do so the reduction in power means you will lose frequency to a larger degree. Now granted this is a step up for a person to do out of the box so not for a novice unless they are wanting to do a little tweaking for very little work.

    The only thing I would try to change would be the 6 core 7600 to an 8 core 7700 for the first $1500 build. The amd 7700 is only $100-$110 more. You can find a way to change some items around and save $10-$20 here and there plus you can also sell your FREE Starfield CD key to someone online easy for $50. I honestly would put the 8 cores vs 6 cores of the same generation amd 7000 cpu a high priority on a multi purpose PC for gaming / rendering / editing / streaming. Those extra 2 cores and extra 4 threads will come in handy more than you think with a multi purpose machine. If it was just straight gaming only then the 7600 cpu is fine.

    Personally would have traded the 7900XT for a 7800XT in the first build, use the extra ~$250 to upgrade the CPU to an 8-core and possibly upgrade the cooler to a Peerless Assassin. The R5 7600 is a great CPU for gaming but in more intensive workloads like rendering those two extra cores are bound to come in handy especially if rendering at 4k or at high frame rates. Though finding a 7800XT in the US is a bit of a chore, so it might be a little while before finding one in-stock is feasible. Love these kinds of videos, making pcpartpicker lists is a hobby of mine especially when I want to see how cheap an iGPU build could be in modern day.

    FYI: Very few AIOs can actually outperform the Noctua NH-D15 using liquid metal instead of the thermal paste. The NH-D15 is usually cheaper than most of the decent AIOs that are for sale. If you can get it to fit in your case, it is a great way to save cash for more meaningful performance gains in the system. The saved cash can be used for a better video card or CPU.

    I have a lot of reasons not to get the RTX 4090, at least for a beginner home builder. Some of these do not apply to pro and experienced builders
    * 12VHPWR (not Nvidia's fault, but man, for a beginner, not sure if I want a beginner to have to worry about inserting it correctly)
    * The power usage. Even though the target is a 1000W PSU, I would hate to give a beginner home builder a 450W GPU. I had a 300W GPU before, and I just hated it. If something looked like a power-related issue was going on, I first would suspect the GPU. I also made sure to get 850W PSUs just in case
    * 3.5 slots and large. Your first build, and the card may be unwieldy and can be hard to put into a case. Will it even fit?
    * GPU brace maybe needed? In fact, for an RTX 4090 and it being a $2000 card, get the damned brace
    * GPU price depreciation. I get that it'll probably last a very long time, but how good will the RTX 5080 be?
    If you have the kind of money for that GPU, sure, get it. Also, even though I knocked the GPU so much, part of me actually likes that Nvidia made something ridiculous. We need more of this kind of crap in the PC world. Nobody is pushing limits as much anymore
    Shoot, I hesitate to pay more than $500 for a GPU, but I open my PC case every 2 years or so (next opening will be to upgrade a 5-year-old drive just because I don't want it to die on me randomly). Maybe others might not want to as much.

    If the RTX 4070 is practically overkill for the Ryzen 7 5800X this time around, then I can agree with your point - especially with 12GB under the hood. I thought a Ryzen 7 5700X with an 8GB Radeon RX 6600 XT would be at least sufficient for entry-level, if not, a slight step above that. This was what I had in mind when I was researching these parts and their retail prices throughout majority of this year. I kind of agree for not buying an old HD anymore. But not for reasons you told.
    I mean you most likely have plenty of old HD's laying around so use them for storage. There is really no real need for fast SSD / NVMe if you are thinking of stuff like: e-books / comics, MP3/FLAC, series/movies, game install files, your .doc / .docx / .rtf / .txt and so on files, your pictures and other things you just want to safe for later and rarely use. Or even when you use do not REALLY need extra fast speed to open them.
    So you can use old 1-3Tb drives you most likely still have around (and keep backup because sooner or later they will break. You most likely get SOMETHING saved unlike from SSD/NVMe drive but still)
    Naturally you want that 1-2Tb fast NVMe drive for OS and another for games & utils but just for storage.. no need to spend extra money use old HD's instead.

    If you want to stream to your buddies in Discord with AV1, only 40 series will do it. Discord has had AV1 streaming for 8 months now and it's still NVIDIA only.
    As far as I know, Twitch doesn't support AV1 at all.
    I have a 5800X3D/7900XTX system and basically can't show my friends how great games look unless they come over to my house. Radeon ReLive also screws up its built in AV1 clip functions if you're playing a game with HDR. It won't record correctly so you'll have to find a workaround like having OBS running in the background if you want to have that "replay button" / "save the last X minutes as a clip" functionality in a game with HDR.

    10:11 The MSI board is back to $160 today, but regardless, I wouldn't recommend a board with only two m.2 NVMe slots. Right now 2TB m.2 NVMe storage is the sweet spot, but 4TB prices are coming down fast. With many boards supporting four m.2 NVMe drives, plentiful fast and reliable NVMe storage -- even enough for video editors or content creators -- is now within reach of all of us.
    A video editor buying a board with only two m.2 storage slots will eventually have to choose between upgrading an existing drive to a more costly (per TB) larger one and the hassle of transferring all their data to a new drive, or adding a SATA snail. Better to have at least three M.2 slots.

    The one thing I disagree on is storage. Love SSD's, don't get me wrong, but you should always have two of them, and if you are editing, you need HDD (or SSD's and a pile of cash) for backups. If you are like me and you keep originals files, along with edits for photos and movies, you need a high storage capacity. HDD is great for this as its cheap. Bring working files to an SSD, do you edits, then move back to long term storage on the HDD. As for only one drive, you are asking for trouble. Get a system drive, and a data drive - always keep them separate. Over the years I've always benefited from being able to wipe the system drive, reinstall or upgrade the OS without losing any of my data. I still have photos (scanned film) from 20 years ago that I have been able to maintain by moving data drives from system to system across multiple OS upgrades and multiple system upgrades. It also saved my bacon earlier this year when bad RAM (than you G.Skill) corrupted by System drive, making Windows in operable. New RAM, Format and Reinstall OS and I'm back up and running without losing any photos or videos. A single drive in any PC is WAY too much of a risk.

    PC Case wise I would have chosen the Montech 903 AIR MAX. 3 ARGB Fans with a 4th non rgb exhaust fan. I have my 5900X and 7900 XTX in that case and its amazing. Plus only $75 for the case. Also, it says 360mm radiator max but I easily put in a Corsair 420mm AIO. No modification.

    Building gaming PC is pretty easy:
    1. Decide on budget
    2. Use half the budget on GPU
    3. Use half the remaining budget on CPU
    4. Split remaining budget for the rest of the parts and get SSD storage only. Try to get at least 32GB RAM.

    Good pick for COD:MW with AMD!
    But on video editing with Davinci Resolve, they probably mean the free version.
    The free version of Davinci Resolve is CPU encoding only.
    So, depending on the importance of video editing, that six-core might be somewhat annoying and time consuming on your encoding.

    Would the $2500 build play Minecraft Java with many mods and the best shadders without any problems? Many places online say Minecraft runs the major gameplay through a single thread, so then I get confused when searching for a CPU since if that statement is true, multi-threads wouldn't help. Then I'm still unsure if the GPU takes all the load from the shadders or is it still going through the single game thread. I'd love to see a build specifically for Modded Java Minecraft with the most demanding shadders as I haven't seen this covered elsewhere online. Thanks for your videos!

      That gets into some super specific stuff that I'm not an expert on, so take this all with a grain of salt. The benchmarks I've seen in the heavily modded minecraft showed the 5800X3D outperforming a lot of higher core count intel parts and it seemed like that was due to the VCache, hence I infer that the 7800X3D would be very good but I can't confirm this with any benchmarks as nobody has done any.

      I feel you man, when I was looking to upgrade my existing system, I mainly had modded monecraft in mind.
      I had to get a 7900x because it was the only bundle available at micro center at the time, and it was much cheaper for me to get that CPU + Mobo + RAM combo instead of getting the 7800X3D and the other stuff. I also got a 6950XT because I felt it would give me the most frames for my money.
      My experience in modded Minecraft has been great, playing All the Mods 8, I get over 200 FPS on 1080p (I also use the Distant Horizons mod for awesome views). In "Vanilla" 1.19 (I use Sodium and Iris), with the Complementary shaders, I max out my 240 hz monitor at 32 render distance. Awesome 👌
      Now, I actually noticed that I am slightly CPU bottlenecked through Intel PresentMon, so I might upgrade the CPU to a ryzen 8000 series X3D cpu at some point to see if I can truly max out my monitor in modded mc, but I might not, 200 FPS is nothing to sneeze at.
      I might just record some videos to show everyone what it looks like, I have not seen anyone on YT do Modded MC benchmarks.

    What I noticed, people that want (A)RGB, they mix everything up, like MSI uses Mystic light, Lina li has it's own platform, NZXT also. So if you want to get everything out of it, it's better to stay on one platform, instead have to run different controllers. That's all running in the background. I've seen it here and other channels too, very odd.

    Hmmm, after going SSD only around 2017, I actually bought a Seagate 2TB HDD for the cheap capacity earlier this year. Using Primocache speeds up access massively with deferred writes for network backed data like Steam & my OneDrive, using spare RAM and a read cache SSD.
    Now the prices of 2TB SSD have fallen, but I really don't need download files, video & pictures on an NVME M2.

    CPU = Ryzen 7 7800X3D
    GPU = AMD rx 7900XTX
    STORAGE = SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2 2280 2TB PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe
    I already spent $1400 on the above parts with some discounts
    What would you recommend for these parts?
    COOLER
    MOBO
    RAM
    PSU:

    I just spendt roughly 1500USD total on a Asrock Phantom 7800xt, AMD 7800x3d, 32gigs of G.skill Trident Z5 NEO DDR5 6000 cl30, Asrock B650M pro wifi, Corsair RM1000e PSU. Had a Samsung 1Tb 980, a Crusial 2TB SSD, and a Cooler master lite 240 carry over from my old computer.
    I shopped around a little a got a rebate on a couple of the products, but all in all, including the value of the carry over parts maybe 1550USD. And I live in Denmark with a 25%VAT, so got be be cheaper in the US for sure
    Dont care for the Nvida 4070, midrange ray tracing is not really worth the money for me, And the Asrock Phantom can be overclocked so it pretty much matches the RTX4070 TI in rasterization.

    15:40 Yeah, I did a Godzilla build at the end of 2021 around an AM4 platform, with the intent of dropping a VCache chip into it when they launched. And its done very well over the last year and a half, especially once the 5800X3D showed up.
    But that was almost two years ago, and the main reason I haven't taken the time to replace it with a 7800X3D is because the performance delta hasn't yet been enough to motivate me to spend the time to take the system apart to replace the motherboard/CPU/Ram/reinstall OS yet.
    And I'll probably hold on to it until Zen 5 X3D drops.
    (My crusher is VR flight sims. Basically, cache is king there. Also, AMD, last I checked was a generation behind in VR frame times, so that was a thing)

    i always recommend if they want to go the AMD route the 5900x or 7900x CPU 12 cores minimum for Resolve. once you get more than 4 layers it lags so bad with 8 cores, it'll save you getting angry and agitated in the future as you get better at editing and your time lines grow.

  • @zs4580
    @zs4580 Před 11 měsíci +1

    I guess for a $1500 build you could do better, but the 5800x is still a great CPU in 2023. To me, performance should be more important than whether something is 'old'. Enjoyed the video overall but I just hate that kind of hyperbole.

    • @PCBuilderChannel
      @PCBuilderChannel  Před 11 měsíci

      Its not because its old, its a price to performance thing. AM4 still makes price to performance sense for budget/midrange builders with a 5500 or 5600. Past that the money you are investing in the CPU no longer makes sense, as investing that into AM5 and 7600 gets you into the new platform setting you up for easy future upgrades. The price to performance just doesn't make sense for investing that much into a AM4 platform build.

    well, the Liquid freezer II 240 is not a higher and cooler, in fact, its one of the most price to performance AIO's out there, the only air coolers cost the same or even more then this... Noctua NH-U12A chromax black $100+ D15 even more.
    the phrasing is what got me, cos i could understand that in case of a NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB, but not in case of really affordable, and great price/performance AIO.
