- Sagar Thapa was the golden boy of the Nepali Football Team. A natural leader, charismatic personality, and a Free Kick goal against Bangladesh that can never be recreated. In October 2015, Nepal police caught Sagar Thapa along with four others for alleged match fixing in various matches from 2008- 2014. This became one of the biggest scandal in Nepali Sports history. The supreme court has acquitted them from the reason. So, Is he really guilty or was he framed?

I represented Sagar dai's case when we appealed his ban in AFC. One of the reasons given by AFC. AFC said, while there were doubts but unlike in criminal case where cases are to be proven beyond reasonable doubt, in case of AFC the evidence required was not beyond reasonable doubt and enough proof was seen in this case to ban them. Nepalese government did not fight hard enough for them because they themselves were trying to send these players to jail in the case of treason. He got acquitted by court because there was no law with regards to match fixing in Nepal then however now due to this case a new law has been formulated in 2074 in Nepal that covers the area of match fixing.
So does that mean they aren't actually proven to be innocent? Yet?

I was avid Nepali football fan. Football has not been for same me since this incident happened. This was most heartbreaking moment for me. I can not imagine how angered, disappointed, frustrated and sad I was then. Only I know how much I adorned these player, Sagar Thapa and Ritesh Thapa were my idols. After this event, for me they were my hatest people in entire world.
I have not been to single football match since. I do not feel the same excitement to watch football on TV anymore. Eventually I stopped watching it too. This incident killed football for me.

Sagar Thapa was a very good player and a captain. Under his captaincy, we made it to semifinal of 2013 Saff championship just one step behind from reaching the final but Nepal played very good football. I hope someday he will coach the Nepal national football team. It was a false flag operation to trap him, there were some enemies who were against him.

I still remember a goal conceded by nepal against Cameroon where 4 to five players In a good position to defend seem foolish to loose the ball. Nepal lost the game 4-0. Later this match was found to be fixed too.
