How are these games going to save on a microSD?! You still have save files. There’s no way you can have a full library of Switch games AND GameCube/Wii games in the NSO service.
They may decide to hold off on GameCube & Wii games for the online service till the announcement of their next system, but some of the major games I don’t see them holding back for it; WW & TP and the remaining two Prime games will be sold (hopefully packed together respectively but that’s probably wishful thinking)
Imgine if the Switch 2 had GameCube NSO near launch!? Not sure if Wii NSO would also happen around the same time. Maybe they'll save that for year 2 and DS and/or 3DS would be in the second half of year 2.
GameCube for Switch 2 maybe. But I don't think the Wii is possible, the Switch has motion controls but it uses different technology for the motion controls making it very difficult to port it to the Switch without having to be a remaster. All other Switch Online games use emulation which is simply not possible for Wii

Hopefully we do get GameCube Wii/Wii U games on the switch/switch2 online service. It's time for Nintendo to step up their 'game' both on a Hardware standpoint and an online. Anytime Nintendo Hardware has been a 'failure' is when Nintendo has done their own thing and completely ignored how technology/online services work at that point in time and just done whatever the hell they wanted. Exception with the Wii but that was a Neche thing that we had never seen before, and the Wii U just proved 100% without a doubt that doesn't always work. If Metro prime 2 and 3 don’t show up on Switch, then it’s unlikely they will show up at all. I would love to see Saturn games on Switch online. I think you’re wrong regarding remakes and remasters which I welcome very much because it gives a new audience who missed out on these games the first time a chance to play them again on Switch 2.
I'm not into retro aesthetics much, and most games that I would enjoy playing will probably get remasters at some point. So NSO isn't so crucial for me when there are so many new games that I can't keep up with.

But for me to pay £18 every year for a digital release that I don’t own, and will go away if I don’t resubscribe is just awful. I would definitely prefer a £50-60 remake and physical release over any digital only re-release that requires a subscription to play.

I’d rather they stop with the online garbage games, fix online playability for new games and remake the old games and charge individually. Just because you get all your gaming stuff free as a business expense makes you say these things.

This is such a bad take. The subscription model is the definition of nickel and diming. Especially if they keep adding new tiers to play additional platforms. Give me solid remaster of these classic games and sell me physical copies for $60.00 a pop. Now I actually own the game for one payment.
i have no problem with GameCube coming to Switch 2 NSO, but going from the masterpiece of 16:9 Wind Waker HD back to the original 4:3 Wind Waker SD would be a huge bummer of a downgrade IMO. just give us Wind Waker HD, Nintendo! (there are plenty of other great GameCube games for NSO.)
Yeah nothing can stop remasters of epic games and collections so relegating them to an online service only wouldn't be in keeping with serving the collectors or maximising potential within hardware constraints. I'd much rather play remasters and I grew up with the old graphics, so imagine how many new players would touch the old formats. But there are more than enough games to add that don't need remasters. Like Mario Party they are picking and choosing what goes into the new games so it takes some of the best bits. I doubt we'll see Mario Party 8 or 9 remastered but they'd be great to add.

Maybe they'll even add Sega Saturn since we have Sega Genesis. However I do have to wonder if Nintendo will introduce a 3rd tier to their NSO subscription plan like Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack+ which could be $70/year that would include all classic system in addition to Gamecube, Wii, DS, and 3DS. I firmly believe Nintendo will add another system to NSO when they announce their next console

I read somewhere that Switch 2 might have 256Gb SSD so that should cover many games, along with emulation compression perhaps.
