The 2 biggest financial mistakes I made as a kid were trading in my copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy to GameStop and not buying a house in 2008.
We all traded in games we had no business trading in as children 😂. You’d be lucky to have gamers as parents. Lucky for my kids if physical media makes a resurgence I will not be letting them trade in games .
Sold a complete GBC Metal Gear Solid for $5 at a garage sale, because that's all it was worth at the time.

Fun Fact: If you remove the disc for Super Mario All-Stars on the Wii, the game can still be played fully due to the game size being small enough to be held by the RAM of the Wii!
Ever played Animal Crossing on the Gamecube? You can do the same with that. Same applies to a couple PS1 games. It's interesting to see that happen.

In my opinion, Kirby's 20th anniversary collection was the best one. I wished they did another collection for Kirby's 30th anniversary.
I mean. . .we did get the definitive version of Return to Dreamland.
Would've killed for Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot on a home console, though.

You don’t have to beat Advance Wars 1 to unlock 2, but there is a little warning message if you try to play 2 first that says it recommends completing 1 before going into it due to story and gameplay continuations

Was £20 at one point in Smyth's, bargain. I see that and felt kicked paying 50 on release.
the game asks you if you're a newcomer or a veteran, and newcomers have to finish 1 to unlock 2, while veterans can play 2 out of the gate
Fun fact about the Zelda Collector's Edition - it was the first time you could play the games in PAL regions at 60hz. Normally games _from_ PAL regions get speed-adjusted for export (like the WipEout series), but for some reason, many Japanese companies didn't bother to do it the other way. It definitely mattered to them though, as Capcom would speed adjust games like Test Drive 5 to run at the correct speed when importing.
Anyway, I still have my copy from way back when. I got it at Toys R Us in a bundle with Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon Box, the GBA cable, Monster Jam, Scorpion King and the Zelda set. It also came with a really sweet bag to hold it all in! It was also like, £100 or £120. Toys R Us was like that sometimes. I remember them having N64s for £99, but the games were £63,99 (initially...). Funny, because they cost that much now, yet people are more prepared to pay for them at the price, even including inflation. Seems like a racket to me.

@@severeerror52 That's not true. Most games would show a 50 or 60 Hz prompt when you started them. A few games (like the Mario Party games) would exclusively run in 50 Hz mode and a few games (like Metroid Prime 2) only supported 60 Hz mode. If a game only supported 60 Hz mode it would get a big red "60 Hz only" mark on the box cover to indicate this.
The Wii includes a 50 Hz option in the menu, though I don't know how it affected the software.
Since the Wii U has backwards compatibility with the Wii, I'd assume it has a 50 Hz option as well but I can't remember.
I remember when they did the N64 Goldeneye Bundle, But the best was when Nintendo sold GameCubes for £99.99
And in contrast they gave us the PAL 50hz rom for the Mario Wii collection!
A great thing about the Kirby Collection is that it has Kirby's Dreamland 3 front the SNES, which was super expensive on physical media. If you want all the main line Kirby games on physical media, this was the thing to get.
Dream Land 3 never released in Europe until the Wii Virtual Console, so it was the first european physical release of that game

The Wii U digital rerelease of the Metroid Prime Trilogy is the most insane Nintendo deal of all time. The best versions of three of the best games ever made... for under £20.

I am so happy to see that Scott bought Advance wars 1+2 reboot camp. To answer his question, you don'T actually need to beat the first game to play the second. In fact, they will tell you that you can unlock it right now, but it may spoil the end of the first game since the main badguy is show at the very beginning of the second game.
Now if only Nintendo could finally patch some of the massive issue in the game that are still present more than a year after...
20:57 not a lot of people know this but they did update 3D all stars in 2021 so that the N64 online controller will work properly with Mario 64
so weird how all major nintendo controllerd work on switch except the wiimote despite all the wii/wii u ports that could benefit from it and it already being wireless

lol they put that Wind Waker demo and the short video on the Collector's Disc just to fill the extra space on the disc more than likely. All those games took up only a fraction of the disc's capacity.

Re: Zelda Collector's Edition, the port of Majora's Mask was prone to crashing at random, and the sound jutters a bit when moving between areas. It was my first time playing through MM, and the tension from the constant threat of crashing was real.
Another way to get that Zelda Collector's Edition Promotional disc was to fill out a form from a Nintendo Power issue, which is how I got mine. Didn't know it was also a part of a Gamecube bundle.
For quite awhile I was only aware of getting that collection through Nintendo Power, which was how I also acquired it.
The menu music on the Zelda collection is maybe the best rendition of the Zelda theme ever made
100% yes! I feel like every other version that came afterwards (or even before) has been disappointing because this one set the bar so high. It's got the hints of mystery and folklore the original melody brings to the table, but the arrangement makes it exciting and adventurous. The worst one for me is the Link to the Past version which seems withheld and stoic. This version is definitely the one that goes all out. Links Awakening is a close second followed by the original Zelda
I know 3D All Stars isn't great but I will defend it for these 3 points:
It was the first time some of the cutscene music in Sunshine was released isolated from sound effects and speech
First time the Shindou version of 64 was released in English
Sunshine's widescreen is still more polished than any fanmade widescreen solution for Sunshine (at least that I'm aware of)
even the crappiest of rereleases can have some redeeming qualities.
It's still a crappy re-release, made worse by the fact that Nintendo went hard with FOMO for it to drive up sales. And made even worse by the fact it has no Galaxy 2.

Imteresting note about the Wii Sports + Resort combo disc: the two save files it makes for each game are different from the save files the two discs make. In other words, you can't use the same save data for your Wii Sports disc as you can with your Wii Sports + Resort Combo Disc's Wii Sports mode.
I’m still annoyed that they never re-released the Super Mario Bros or Zelda Game & Watch games. They had the perfect opportunities when both franchises got the modern Game & Watch handhelds, but no, fuck us I guess.

It's sad to hear that the NES/SNES classics sit on most people's shelves. In my house, both consoles get regular use. My dad relives his childhood regularly with the NES classic and I get to experience games of old on the SNES Classic (with save states XD). I absolutely love these little consoles and wish there were more releases like an N64, GCN, Wii, GB, GBC, VB, GBA, DS, DSi, 3DS, or 'N'3DS

I appreciate you going into detail about the pros/cons and the differences between official and unofficial emulation roughly midway into the video I think. As someone who really hasn't dabbled with hacking or experimenting with illegal emulation in any capacity whatsoever before, you really cleared up and demystified what's the appeal to both in a succinct way. And in case there are those wondering why I have never engaged with illegal emulation before, it is not stemming from this moral superiority and moral righteousness/high ground, instead rather it is from a severe lack in technical expertise and skill and also I am absolutely petrified to even attempt or go near illegal emulation for fear of what it could result in for my PC and the consequences that could ensue if I screw something up on the technological side of things

*The Legend of Zelda Collection* is the title used in Japan. They also had a *Super Mario Collection* instead of "All-Stars", and *Kirby of the Stars 20th Anniversary Special Collection*. They really just told you what it was in Japan. No possible confusion that way.

Nintendo Puzzle Collection is a very interesting release by itself. Yoshi Cookie is a remake from the SNES version, Panel de Pon is a cancelled N64 game, Dr. Mario 64 never released in Japan and the game itself never released outside of Japan, even with the game had been shown at 2003 E3.
also note, the steel book case version of metroid prime trilogy came with this little fold out paper that on one side showed a bunch of concept art, and on the other provided a summary of the trilogy.

I remember as a kid seeing the cover of Super Mario All-Stars on the cartridge and not realizing it was actually a collection of older games. Instead because of Mario's suit I assumed this was like a circus themed Mario game with tons of different power-ups and characters across the series.
It was still really cool to play them though, and was how I found out that the Super Mario Advance games were themselves also rereleases of older titles after realizing they had some of the same games as in this collection.

It’s crazy Pokémon never does this EVER like I can’t even think of anything coming close to this. Cuz not even the 3rd version of the games from back in the day, like Emerald or Platinum, felt like a compilation, more like a COMBINATION.

Emulation aways runs easily for me on PC, but like, connecting those controllers can actually be pretty annoying for some reason. Also downloading roms online is piracy, (I'd totally never ever do such a thing, never, totally) so official releases are definitely appreciated.

Metroid Prime Trilogy has to be my favorite Nintendo collection to this day. I mean, you have three amazing games all bundled together, two of which are given new motion controls and that you hop in and out of at anytime. I was more than glad to find a copy at GameStop while I was still, and while Metroid Prime Remastered is amazing on its own, I hope Prime 2 and 3 eventually get brought to Switch on their own. Though one collection I’m still crossing my fingers happens is a double pack of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. Being that they’d both WiiU ports, and I can’t see Nintendo releasing them individually. Then again, they rereleased Luigi’s Mansion 2 and DKC Returns for full price, so what do I know?
Funny enough, the Mario 1 "breaking bricks" weirdness of Mario just going through them instead of bouncing back down was because the variable for causing a rebound on impact was accidentally reversed in the All-Stars version; this meant Mario basically ascending into blocks, or at the very least wasn't working correctly. There's a hack out there to fix this one little thing.
At this point Nintendo should just hire you as a consultant for midpoints in development to see if they need to pivot.
I remember me and my two brothers selling our gamecube just to scrap up the cash to buy another gamecube to get that Zelda collection.
Shame we never got the Kirby collection in Europe for a system with a region lock. Glad that the game's ISO file still found the way to my Wii's harddrive. The new challenge stages are a great bonus.

Nintendo has the made best video game compilations, I love Zelda Anniversary collection on GameCube, Kirby collection, Super Mario All Stars on SNES, but I wish they made it on the DS instead of the Wii, since All Stars was redundant since you can already play all four NES games on the Wii virtual console. The DS would’ve been more appropriate since you’re playing classic Mario games on the go!
