For the USB-C mod, you should put a 5.1k resistor between CC1 and GND and another 5.1k resistor between CC2 and GND, that way it will work with all USB-PD chargers

Can I ask you something, my 3DS stoped charging, and it doesn’t turn on, what could it be? When I plug in the charger, it blinks and that’s all
I was so excited when I saw the hole for the usb c port so nice and factory looking .. I blinked my eyes and it turned into a hot mess 😭😂

The 3DS is a GOD tier handheld!
And it has an internet browser, folders, themes(by default from Nintendo), mp3 player, a decent d pad and a removable battery

I got my 2ds for 60 dollars on eBay, it has a fault with the volume slider but it's a relatively easy fix and the batteries are easy to replace too

New 2ds xls go for way cheaper. I got a N3DSXL with some broken pixels and a rough body off Mercari yesterday for 140

buy it japanese, you’ll gonna mod it anyway, and some extra steps won’t kill u; got mine for 72 bucks and it’s almost like new, it does have a tiny little dent on the bottom and came with no stylus; i consider that as a win

I personally just use a cable that has a Nintendo plug and a USB-A plug to charge.
If I was going to do a USB-C mod, I’d do one that replaces the old port, rather than cutting the case up.
it's nice to be able to still use the old charging cable, especially for things like charging docks
@@X2BruteDon’t charging docks just use the two contact plates on either side of the socket? You don’t have to lose that capability.
Mini files are your friend when adding any new ports to your case. Cut the hole smaller than needed and use files to finish it off. 🤘🤘
I got a 3DS Capture Card mod which also doubles as a USB C charging mod. It's amazing and if you can afford it, I'd recommend it. Both for the charging, and for the capture.

Adding wireless charging to the 3DS surprised me.

Wireless charging degrades your battery faster, and it uses significantly more power. ifixit recently made a video where they found wireless chargers like this from Amazon take twice the power to charge as wired. It’s really not worth it.
I didn't know there were wireless chargers.

It is more than likely possible to put the QI Charging FULLY inside the case (As long as you mount the actual Charging Unit itself to the outer casing on the inner side) the difference between having it in and out are going to be very minimal and in terms of Looks, it will certainly look better.
Didn’t even think of that, but I charge my phone this way with the case still on so it makes total sense
One major 3DS mod I'd love to see is getting a bluetooth audio transmitter to work with it. Especially one with low latency AptX!

Now just need a circle magnet for the wireless charging and Bluetooth Audio. TBH USB-C for data would be amazing on a hacked 3ds.
I thougt there are kits for changing the og chargeport to Usb C
There are but those are a bit hard to install due two large factors. One it requires some advance soldering skills to pull off and two it's very easy to get the wrong kit since nintendo changed the board side connections with each version of the 3DS to prevent hard mods from being used to hack the system.
The numb change is easily my favorite mod for the New 3DS. Make playing with the C-stick way better!
Watch out for getting second hand shell replacements. The 2 i got from Amazon had their Hinge housing snapped after a month.
Buy a MagSafe pop socket and rob the magnets and make it mag safe!
I recently decided to mod my 3ds software & added a usbc i did use a smaller pcb
I don't know how dangerous could be for the system but you could get a rounded set of magnets and make a "mag-safe" for the wireless charging so it always aligns perfectly fine (or you could just make a DIY stand so you never miss it)

Gone are those days. If you're wanting HD gaming on the go, you have to go big. I mean, technically you could do something like a GBA SP / Galaxy Flip series, but I think it would get pretty costly.
Not getting that now a days. I say get the Og launch 3ds and mod it or just get a gba sp with flash card. I have a Gba Micro with flash personally.
I guess it's fine since every mobile handheld can be emulated on a phone at this point.

I made the exact same mistake with USB-C port lol. I also thought it would be a great place to fit it, but stylus won't go all the way anymore. I ended up replacing that part of the shell anyway (I kept everything else, because it's limited edition and OEM shell is far better quality), so new placement is basically the same as yours, right next to ZR button and it looks really nice. My breakout board is way smaller though (only 4 pins), but I still used some glue just to secure it. Many people replace proprietary port with Type-C, but I wanted to keep it, just in case. Also replaced C-stick with the one from Ali, looks the same and it's far more responsive.
Also installed Type-C to DSi XL (next to 3.5mm jack, couldn't find a better place), Vita 1000 (a lot of space between main and left controller board) and Wii U gamepad (hated that thin cable and big power brick). Charging my phone and handhelds using same cable is huge, especially from power bank (via short USB-A to USB-C cable).
Didn't need or want wireless or Type-C to Type-C charging. But you could also buy magsafe ring for easier alignment (I have it on my phone case and my powerbank is magsafe compatible).
So yea, all my devices are USB-C and I LOVE it. Fairly easy, with exception of Vita 1000, which has very small pins. Nintendo consoles are noob-friendly to mod (just make sure you don't mess up positive and negative).

I actually direct change the C-stick using the PSP numb when the New 3DS XL released.
The X1 nib is specifically a low-profile one. For replacement nubs you will probably find one that is too big and too tall.
Just trying to spread the right one. It's also a super easy replacement/removal, just as he suggested. Just the screws to reveal the inner hardware and being careful when you flip it open.

The gamepad already technically charges ”wirelessly", just pop it on the stand with the two small pins that it came with in the box xd
You could make a custom 3D printed fixture for the wireless charger to position it correctly. I'm thinking something similar to the charging dock that came with the original 3DS
Bruh I got the new cstick in today and the difference is INSANE! It’s actually like a second left stick! Super comfortable, low profile, fits like a glove, very sensitive input, and easy to install. Undeniably a must do upgrade. Thanks for the tip!

Wireless charging is fine in a pinch, but I very rarely use it as it's incredibly slow, inefficient, and heats up the device.

if you're going to do wireless charging I'd suggest adding one of those steel rings for magsafe compatibility to make alignment easy
Already did the USB C and Nub mods, and they're fantastic. Not sure if I would get much use of a wireless charger.
I did the PSP nub mod some months after the new 3ds launched best mod especially for monster hunter 4 ultimate at the time!
The C-Stick mod on a N2DSXL can blend the top screen, especially if you have a screen protector. I replaced mine with a PSP stick some years ago, and over time it started to blend. There isn't enough space for a thicker stick on that console, but it looks like the other models are fine for that.
I think some type of screen upgrade would be amazing. Going back to the 3ds the screens look terrible. And not just in terms of resolution the image quality just doesn’t hold up like other older nintendo handhelds
I'm glad you took my advice from years ago and swapped the c stick with a psp cap. I'm very disappointed though, that neither you or anyone one else on the internet except for me made an N64 Switch dock. It's a super easy mod, and it would have been your best video to date. 🤦
I literally just bought one. I’m rocking out with Megan battle network operation shooting star. It’s the BEST way to play this game.
I made a video of adding Bluetooth and the same USBC charging mod too. Perfect fit. Never tried the wireless charging though since at that point why would I need a device to charge 3 different ways.
You should try to implement a MagSafe like charging system so it magnetically aligns itself and locks in place.

There’s a breakaway board on Etsy that is USB C-PD compatible and replaces the current port AND still supports the dock charging. It’s awesome.

If you know anyone else with the same DS as you with a working battery, you might ask if you can test their battery in your DS to see if it charges. Batteries are relatively cheap & easy fixes!

There's a softmod that just lets you load in any Amibo NFC data midgame. No need for physical NFC tags
There are 3d printable drill guides to help line up the USB-C port
There's a USB C board that I installed recently and replaces the old port, and apparently it already supports USB-PD.
You can also get high capacity batteries. Do you have a link for getting those Cstick nubs? My Cstick is giving me trouble and that seems like a perfect fix.
Got a Japanese n3dsxl for 150 and it’s been amazing looks almost brand new
I got an idea, but this is probably just for the old 3DS: modifying the cradle to get wireless charging. The design of it destroys the problem of aligning the console completely... I suppose lol

I have a Nintendo 2DS XL, hopefully the internals remain the same since I do slightly worry about the changes of internals due to different positions of game card slots, microSD, stylus, etc.
The nub mod I used a PSP analog nub which made it so much easier to navigate
You should have tried wireless magnetic charging instead of just regular wireless charging so that way you don't really have to be exact with how you place it down like the iPhone it would just magnetically stick on

The wireless charging idea intrigues me. Let us know how long it takes for a full charge. I'm interested in knowing if it's worth my time. Might also look into the nub replacement. That thing is one of the design decisions Nintendo made that annoyed me, given how expensive the New 3DS XL was when I originally bought it.
do you think you'd ever attempt adding Bluetooth? that dongle for the switch that everyone has isn't available anywhere anymore so hardmodding it in is starting to look like a better option

I wonder if the DS Lite or 3DS chargers have anything else they can do besides charging because I know the original DS has audio out support.
Also you don't need to wirelessly charge the device because it literally has a charging dock you just set it in and no need to modify anything. Also why do you want this kind of thing You can't play Walt's charging at the same time and yeah so I ended up not caring about it take it or leave it I don't care.

This is really cool and a great idea, but it's something that I will most likely never be doing. I don't have the tools or skills to do any hard mods to any game system or have the money to pay someone else to do them for me.
need ips mod with all the different 3ds variants. take a tn and make it both screen ips if possible.

Genuinely, this just makes me ask why portable consoles didn't merge with phones when they had the chance. The DS/3DS series is literally the gaming equivalent of the samsung fold.
