I had one! I bought it brand new. Mine was a GT-S Coupe. It had a sunroof You're right, It was a blast to drive and handled like crazy. That's what made me buy it. I went to do a U-turn to catch up with a friend. I was in 4th, downshifted to 2nd, turned the wheel and popped the clutch. She drifted around the turn. When I popped the clutch the torque and the tires grabbed the street and the rest is history! The rear lights were on all of the celicas of that time. I replaced the wheels with 16 inch gold honeycombed Enkies and put the factory ones on my 76 Celica that made that car handle like crazy. All of this was done well before the dayz of Fast and Furious. My car was known from NY to Fla.
Haha those were the days!
I had the 84 in high school in 1988. We called the rear light style back then bat wings, because of the way they flared. Mine wasn't a convertible, and didn't have the blood pressure option 😆 I got stuck in a waist high raging flood, got out dragged the car beside me until I could get it on higher ground. Went back once the water went down, started right up! Mine was a manual, OMG what a blast! Thanks for the video.
Glad it brought back good memories haha
Celica of this era was good
This convertible model can not be met easily in Japan
のざわひでき i have one add me on insta Henry_gts
I have one for sale. I bought it off the dealer lot in 1986. Contact me if you're interested.
@@jezlang2214 Still up for sale?
Prices on surviving examples are going up, there are few that could be had in the sub $5K range with one seen going for $15K in 2021.
I just got the exact car, white 1985 Gt-s convertible. It was a barn find that's been parked for decades. Looking to sell if anyone is interested.
I had a white 85 just like yours, back in 90 got rear ended and the insurance company totaled it , i still have the hard tonneau cover in my garage.
I would like to buy the Hard tonneau cover if you still have it?
I have one in red and manual owned her for 12 years now really dont drive it but a few time each summer they are getting rares to find.
They’re beautiful cars
I have one too in red add me on insta henry.gts_
Adam you need to drive that baby!
My dad had a hard top version of this car. He had nice leather seats with lumbar pumps stolen right out of it in our driveway. Great car. Wish it was still in the family.
The one that got away
Awesome video, thanks for making it!
i have a manual gts convertible and its really nice
Good thing the '85 is easy to turbo
John Connor is it really tho ? How !! I know that you can run 5 psi on stock ecu I own a 85 celica
@@HENRYSYOTAS The pistons are the weak point, but everything else is built as strong as the 22RTE.
So to 'build' the bottom end for boost is just pistons and rings (~$150).
You can try to finagle the stock ECU to work with 7-8psi, but really it's just a bad idea.
Even without turbo, an aftermarket ECU that removes the AFM will give you better HP/TQ (not much hp, but around 15-20ftlb though). Change the ignition system to MSD and that'll be even better.
So yeah, plug and play ECU and pistons and you can get at least 225whp. That really isn't much modification to more than double the power.
LC Engineering has some interesting mods available. (all Toyotas not just Celicas)
Very nice video,,
Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
I got to drive a manual version and it was fun af
Love 3rd gen Celica. I had an 83...
Great vehicles
I saw one of these , looked very nice , has red accents :3
Bryan Villagrana I own one too in red check out my insta @ Henry.gts_
Mine's black with rare dealer decals. (red and silver)
I had a blue 83 GT-S fastback with a 5 speed stick in high school that I swapped the 22RE for the turbo 22RTE from a junk yard 4Runner. Sadly mine had rust in all of the common areas for these cars. I ended up selling the engine and transmission and scraping the car because of the rust.
they they fast
Do you think someone who's 6 foot could comfortably fit in the car? I wish the later Celica's where rwd cuz I'd rather have an 89 or even a 93 but whatever.
the belt moldings at the base of the side windows tend to go bad.
I used to have one celica1983 no convertible red .l still remember my it was a beaty
I had an 84 back in high school, loved it ..i would love to get another , but just can't find one on the east coast of Canada . If this or any other is available let me know
So many of them here are rusted out!

The trunk rack was a dealer installation. So were the decals. Both very rare.
@Jez Lang I have the exact car, trunk rack and all. It was a barn find that's been parked since the 90s. Looking to sell if anyone is interested.

I have 1985 Toyota celica ct s color Red for saLe
still for sale?
Did he say swap the engine out?? No way
It would fit. I considered it. The better (and way cheaper) way is to change the throttle body and do other mods from LC Engineering. I've kept mine original for 34 years though.
Nice...muscle cars to the asians
I have a 85 convertible stick shift for sale
still available?
i have one in red and black ,,,
