      @saberplaytop Před 6 lety +17

      "Maybe in scoring but thats about it". Well, yes, that is where the majority of skill is involved: the ability to put the ball in the basket.
      Is rebounding a skill? Yes, but not to the same degree as scoring. Not to mention that Lebron is simply taller and larger and plays a different position, so it is only natural for him to be a better rebounder. Him being a better rebounder has nothing to do with skill, but with body, size, and position. If Kobe were 6'8 250 he'd average 7,8 rebounds a game too.
      Passing? Lebron is the more consistent passer than Kobe, but at the same time he has a higher usage rate and has the ball in his hands most of the hands, and takes on the role of facilitator, so he will get more assists. Anyone who has watched Kobe over his career knows he could go out and drop 10 times at will if he wanted to.
      Did you forget defense? Lebron is a more versatile defender because he is larger. But he is not an elite defender. Kobe was an elite defender, hence why he has 9 first team all defense selections. He could consistently shut down the man he was guarding. Lebron's versatility has nothing to do with skill, Kobe's defensive prowess is skill.

      Dwayne Jonez That has to be one of the stupidest arguments I’ve ever read. When you have different builds you work on different skill sets. For example, if you are 7 feet tall you’re going to work on post moves and rebounding and focus less on ball handling and passing and vice versa with 6 footers. Saying which skill sets require more or less skill is completely objective and there’s no way you could definitively say one playstyle is harder than another. Your argument is giving an example body almost identical to Kobe’s so of course his set of skills is going to be better suited for it. I could flip your argument around and say if they were both 6’10 280 pounds who would be better and the obvious answer would be Lebron because his set of skills fit better with that larger frame.

    • @balla2828

      @@MrBacon-ou1kw This has to be one of the stupidest statements. 6'10 280 pounds Kobe would break every record ever established in the NBA. The records would be set so high that nobody would ever get close again. Couple reasons why Kobe was the best was because of HIS MIND, IQ & WILL. 3 big things that Lebron lacks. The only thing Lebron has over Kobe is his freak athleticism, take away that one single advantage and it automatically becomes a no contest win for KOBE. EZ MONEY

      BaLLa
      It’s not fair to say who would be better at the same size. In that case Iverson would be the greatest. Lebrons footwork, speed, creating space, etc is worse than Kobe’s partially BECAUSE the fact that he’s bigger. Bigger guys never move as well as smaller guys. That doesn’t mean Dirk and Duncan aren’t super skilled, even if they can’t do half of the stuff that Kobe can do.
      All this being said, I agree with you for the most part. Kobe is overall a more skillful player. But Lebron is more skillful in certain things, specifically on the playmaking side or off ball defense. Lebron is also better at finishing around the rim, Kobe was great at it too, but Lebron is better. And that is skill, not size. Lebrons efficiency around the rim is comparable to 7 foot centers, he’s just really good at driving and finishing.

    • @balla2828
      @balla2828 Před 4 lety +1

      ScopeWorth its size. His whole game and finishing around the rim is due to sheer size and athleticism. The main skill Lebron possesses is his court vision. Other than that he loses in all other skill departments. Kobes IQ and mind is what puts him over Lebron. You cant possibly argue that Lebron is smarter. Last but not least the difference in killer instinct is the icing on the cake. We both know Kobe wins in that regard as well.

Man you're high af, everybody even 9 years old know that lebron's iq is the highest in NBA HISTORY, even skip bayless said it himself, and you're putting mind and mentality in the same sentence i don't see a difference between those two, the only thing kobe is better than lebron is creating shots. Lebron james leads his team to victory, kobe's mentality is an inspiration, but it backfires sometimes when he just ditch out his team to take the difficult shot, that's why he couldn't make the most out of his teams. Of course in a one on one contest everybody would take kobe, but if i wanna win, i'm taking lebron all day because if you had lebron in your team, you know you're winning over 50 games, and don't start off about last season, he was injured and lakers basically threw their season out of their windows when Lebron sit out for like 10 games or something.

      1. Stats do not tell the entire story, dude. AD has better numbers than him, but is he the leader of the team? LeBron is a better rebounder than Kobe and Kobe is a better scorer because of the different positions they play. Okay let me start:
      2. LBJ in Miami was definitely an elite defender, but even from 2014 to 2019, he would've just let players get past him easily when he was too lazy to even guard. He'd blame his teammates for his defensive lapses. And don't get me started on what Jason Terry and JJ Barea did to him in the 2011 finals. I can't justify LBJ being a better defender overall if he doesn't consistently play defense, even though he was a beast for most of his time in Miami. LeBron has 5 all defensive first team selections (6 overall) -- Kobe never took a night off and gave it his all on defense and offense every night. 9 time all defensive first team and 12 all defensive teams in total.
      3. From a skill set, Kobe was better than LeBron at ball handling, shooting mid range, shooting 3 pointers, footwork, creativity on dunks (lol just my opinion), hitting fadeaway jumpers, 1v1 situations, free throw shooting, clutch moments, playing off ball on both offense and defense and mentality -- LeBron is a better finisher at the rim, scoring on the inside, playmaking, durability, and is more efficient, while being bigger, stronger and taller than Kobe.
      4. LeBron would literally shoot closer to the basket while Kobe was a threat at all times from anywhere (3 point line, paint, 20 Ft out, etc.). Bron was finally able to shoot consistently until he got to Miami.
      5. LeBron is a great player, but why does he flop so much? Like I respect him as a great player, but he better than that. FYI, Kobe never flopped in a game.
      6. Team success is great, but when your second best player is another top 5 player in the world, it's expected that your team are in the top 3 teams in the league
      7. IMO LBJ is great, he's just not as good as Kobe was. Like in a 1v1 situation in their primes, Kobe wouldn't lose is what I think. (P.S. this debate would be endless lol)

      LeBron has scored under 20 points only 24 times in his career. Kobe did it 53 times. There's something Kobe can beat LeBron at.
      I know you idiots are going to say LeBron was facing wack competition in the East.

      The thing is that skills are not just about the stats you put up, it's where it should take you. Putting up insane numbers at the right time is also a part of your skill. Lebron's focus was his individual stats. Kobe's was his influence to others. Two different things. Analysts will side with Lebron as they see the numbers. Players and fellow HOFs will side with Kobe, as they see his achievements and influence to the players, fans, and the league in general.

    Prime Kobe was the most skilled player of his time. People so quickly forgot. The man who was constantly shooting over double teams because the defenders had no better choice, the man who was a far better perimeter shooter in his prime. (Took more shots yes but 85 percent of his shots were under constant duress. Was still a way better open jump shot shooter than Lebron, better free throw shooter by far, better in the post, never showed any signs of fear in the biggest moments of any games. ALWAYS showed no sign of excuses, never cheated the fans by sitting out games cause he was strategizing about the playoffs or whatever the reason might be. Kobe is to this past generation what Jordan was in the 90’s. The Best Player in the game.

      Kobe's defensive skillset is even better. His laterals, his defensive posture, the way he uses his hands, and his techniques in applying pressure despite him not having a larger size and relatively smaller palms. Meanwhile, Lebron's defense is purely based on his freakish body.

      the narratives around lebron are just super dumb. KD is regarded as a better scorer than lebron, yet lebron averages more points per game for his career than KD does, and scoring isnt even lebron's best atribute or focus. its wild that a guy that is going to finish his career as the all time leading scorer has a narrative that he isnt a good scorer. the reality is that lebron is judged on different standards compared to everyone else
