  • Guinea-Bissau is a tiny country in the western part of Africa and has a population of about 1.8 million people. The country was colonized by the Portuguese and at the time it was simply known as Guinea. Bissau was added to the name of the country in 1974 to differentiate it from French Guinea. There are over 30 ethnic groups in Guinea Bissau.

      The Djolla are mainly in Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Guinea Bissau. They are also known by other names in these countries. In Ghana, they are called Wangara. In Mali they are called Bambara or Daffin.

    Balanta people are the majority of ethnic groups of Guinea-Bissau. Not Fulani. Please do more research.

      @@kingakatutura1437 no, Mende are from Liberia, Manjaco are in Guinea Bissau, Gambia mostly. There is only a few hundred thousand left. Some of us speak Wolof now instead of our native language

      @@leonhenry4861 Some of the tribes in the Senegambia region are actually the same as people in Liberia. Any tribe with Man in front of it is likely the same people just a slight difference, it is confirmed that the Mandinka in Senegambia are linked to those in Liberia and are the same people.

      The Djola people exist both in GB and Senegal. In Senegal they are called Djola and in GB are called Felupe. I am from GB

    My tribe in Guinea-Bissau is Mancanhi, Pepel, Balanta Naga and Capeverdian. I live in the US 🇺🇸 you missed many other ethnic groups. Guinea-Bissau have over 40 ethnic groups.

      @@NeyCD83 My father, mother and I were born in GB. Three of my grandparents were born abroad and all went to Bolama as teenagers. My forth grandparent was born in GB. All of the above, including me can only speak Crioulo and Portuguese. That's what I meant 'I don't align myself with any particular group'. I am just a guinean, just like anyone else.

    I identify with being Balanta ..because my DNA is specifically Guinea Bissau, and I can't be Mandingo cuz none of my family look it ..I'm not Fulani because we were caught in the slave trade and Fulani did sell slaves on average during that time . I did my research im thinking Balanta has a list of smaller groups that are now no longer known . is that true sounds like it because of your video . you ask who is missing do you know?

      Balantas are in great numbers on the south. I was stationed in Tite and all the plantations of rice were done by Balantas, not counting the raising of cows. Good people.

      Your research is right fulas did sold lot of slaves they play both sides that's why the mandinkas called then fula which means twosided peoples. They are naturally cunning, self centered and look down on everyone except themselves.
