    Excellent video, really enjoyed how the Mystic Retrieval line was shown (had to do that in paper a good number of times). One other quirk with Mizzix that wasn't mentioned was how it interacts with X-cost instants and sorceries. By using the full reduction from Mizzix's ability on the X of the spell, the CMC of the spell on the stack will be higher than your experience, triggering Mixxiz's ability. These spells help for climbing up in counters and providing spells that can be cast at any point on the mana curve, making them more relevant more often. Reality Spasm would be my choice for cards to consider for the deck as it acts like Turnabout in most situations, allows for experience counters to be built up in Mystic Retrieval loops, and provides a Firemind's Foresight loop where you find Reieterate, Reality Spasm, and Searing Touch or Whispers of the Muse.

    • @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG
      @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG  Před 4 lety +1

      The tutor line is definitely something to keep in mind. I have Reality Spasm in the sideboard for my main decklist but will add it into the 'Base' Decklist for sure.
      The reason I didn't mention many value X cost spells is that a lot of them are relatively difficult to cast for enough value without Mizzix, and I don't personally like adding value cards that need my commander to get the proper value. That being said, I did forget to mention that casting an X spell does increase the counters Mizzix has, as that is very relevant when running those cards, good catch

      I was thoroughly surprised to see this line, even for as much as I used to play Mizzix. Not sure if it just never came up or what happened, but it's definitely nice to know this loop as I highly consider re-sleeving her.
      I was also glad to see the guys show Mizzix off the way I consider her to be best. I've seen a lot of people try to build her Storm, and personally, I think Melek is just better at Storm than Mizzix is.

    While not in your list, another intuition pile is:
    Mystic Retrieval + Runic Repetition + Time Warp
    You don't need Mizzix, but it helps. This sets up infinite turns if your opponents don't have an answer for your graveyard. Infinite turns should find you a way to win.

  • @Capybara496
    @Capybara496 Před 4 lety +2

    I want to point out that (if you have sufficient mana and experience counters) Intuition can tutor for the Mystic Retrieval + Runic Repetition + other spell combo without your opponent's choice mattering. Also, you mention using mana production (like Turnabout) for that combo, but getting Time Warp this way avoids the need for both mana production AND a payoff. You'll find both eventually if you're taking infinite turns! I've been working on getting my Mizzix deck to a competitive level, so this video popping up was awesome! Thanks!

    I play Mizzix as my main deck, and one thing I've learned is the importance of value engines. While turns 1-2 are normally spent ramping, casting mizzix turn 3 is awkward as you rarely have mana up for protection. Adding in value engines like Trail of Evidence helps smooth out your curve and produce consistent card advantage, which Mizzix needs as she can't race other decks. Also, slimming down on wincons is vital to give you the necessary amount interaction- I personally rely on lightning bolt and swan song, as I use Reiterate and Bonus Round + Narset's Reversal for my infinite mana combos, with Capsize and Dockside as a back up. The value engines can help with this, as they can often serve as an outlet for infinite mana as well. Just my 2¢.

    I got her a while back and recently decided to make my first izzit commander deck and it was between her and a few others and I couldn't decide so I had my friend pick at random, Mizzit won and I sat down looked at a ton of cards and decided my win cons would be to shove my deck into my hand and keep it their with thought vessel, reliquary tower, or the new doctors companion Nyssa (thank you doctor who precons lol) and then getting or tutoring for vecnas hand, then making my commander an unblockable 30/30. I am thinking about throughing in some red extra combat turns with karlach or someone to help with player removal lol

    Mizzix is my favorite commander, and I love her because it's fun to use her with the sole intent of being annoying. My deck barely wins, but it's filled with counters, extra turn cards, and theft. That being said, I came here to find a new way to play her because I'd like to add winning to that equation and believe that she can be a top contender.
    I had no idea about the dual counters, and I still find it confusing even though I think I figured out how it works. Could you plausibly do triple counters when she has no XP yet? Thanks for making the video and rock on! I'll be subscribing and checking out more of your content.

  • @WiTTeNx

    one point tho, i dont believe you get a counter when casting on stack an equivalent cmc card since adding a counter is conditionnal. when trying to resolve the 2nd 1cmc card, it checks again for conditions, since conditions are not met, the ability fizzles.

    Enter the Infinite combo is also in flavor, as it is literally an Izzet League spell that quotes their guild leader AND you are using Mizzix's signature spell to go off.
    Once you draw your deck, cast the free mana rocks to cast Laboratory Maniac and fee/cheap card draw to win. Labman is not from Ravinca, but fits the flavor of the Izzet League perfectly.
    So, while Enter the Infinite/Labman combo that also uses Mizzix's Mastery is not the most efficient combo, it is the most flavorful combo... and thus the best for a Mizzix deck in my opinion.

    Hey guys, i had a question with mizzix.
    If you have already 3 experience counters - Does electrodominance + reiterate = infinite combo?
    My logic is: electrodominance with X equal 3 lets you free cast reiterate and with mizzix you can also cast the buyback for free, if reiterate resolves, it goes back to your hand and a new copy of electrodominance goes into the stack, since the copy is also with X equal 3, you can choose reiterate again starting a loop.
    This is because when casting spells for free, you CAN pay aditional cost.
    The only weakness would be that you have to pass priority to let reiterate resolve and go back to your hand, allowing your opponent to react with a counter or something else.
    Am I correct?

  • @laicuan1
    @laicuan1 Před 4 lety

    What about Mana Geyser+reiterate/buyback for infinite? I built a mizzix "DMX" deck with around 15 X spells, cuz u know "X gonna give it to ya." Its a creatureless spellslinger build that hopes to get 10+ counters built up then fire off a comet storm+copy effect. It's more casual but can be really powerful when combining extra turn spells plus a copy effect

    • @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG

      @@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG I wanted to make consistant Mizzix deck, and I bad very good plays with her. Even in non-competitive or semi competitive metas Niv is better simply because it can draw cards and can not be countered. And you can play cards like Locus God and Kefnet as win cons or maybe just bunch of instan/sorc value and planeswalkers. Mizzix doesn't like non-instant and sorc cards. 😞 but I must say that eventually, I will come back to Mizzix xD. 13:00 Mizzix' ability does not work this way. (EDIT: from what I've been told and the way I understand her ability to work)
    2015-11-04 You finish casting the spell, including paying its many cost, before Mizzix' first ability triggers. The ability that gives you the experience counter will resolve before the spell that caused it to trigger.
    Her first ability checks your experience counters against the cmc of the spell on the stack. Therefore, when the experience counter trigger from Ponder resolves, it will check the cmc of Ponder (1) against the number of experience counters you have (in the scenario given, 1 from Brainstorm). Since 1 is not greater than 1, the trigger from Ponder will not give an experience counter.
    This DOES work if you were to cast a 2 cmc spell and hold priority to cast a 1 cmc instant in response (if you have 0 experience counters). For instance, if you were to cast Counterspell, then cast Brainstorm in response to an opponent's response (or by holding priority to do so), you would get the experience counter from Brainstorm and then gain a second from Counterspell.

    • @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG
      @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG  Před 4 lety

      The way I have understand it is as follows:
      When casting the spell Ponder (Paying all mana costs and putting it on the stack) Mizzix ability will check to see if the current experience counters is greater than the spell's CMC, if true, the triggered ability goes on the stack to add a counter. You can then respond to this counter.
      Here some resources I found supporting this line: www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/3rfytn/help_mizzix_of_the_izmagnus_questions/
      tappedout.net/mtg-questions/quick-question-on-mizzix-exp-counters-from-a-noob/
      www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/3vfbw9/mizzix_and_experience_counter_triggers/
      If you have information showing that this is incorrect separately I am more than happy to make a correction, but from what I can see I believe that it would count as 2 experience counters.

    • @markt43
      @markt43 Před 4 lety

      I can confirm that Casually Competitive MTG is correct. The ruling you referenced stops the cost reductions from applying retroactively to the spell that will trigger the cost reduction to increase. The reason responding to the triggered ability works is because Mizzix does not have an “intervening if” statement. This means Mizzix only checks triggering conditions when the ability is put on the stack and NOT an additional time, when it resolves (like an intervening if does).

    • @kwikdraw7332
      @kwikdraw7332 Před 4 lety +1

      @@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG Ironically, that's where I found my support for why it would not work: the 2nd reply.
      Initially, I thought chaining 1 cmc spells would result in multiple experience counters. When I played in my first event at a LGS, though, and attempted to explain this interaction to the table, the judge informed me that it was not possible to gain multiple experience counters because the ability checked both upon being placed on the stack and upon resolution. I spoke with 2 other judges from other LGS's, and they agreed that it did not work. I know Joseph himself is a judge as well, though, so...
