When Yuzuru Hanyu stepped on the ice during 2014 Sochi Olympics, the figure skating world didn't know what was about to hit them back then.
He ran into them like a Tonka truck and then backed up

I remember watching Sochi Olympics back then and not really cheering for anyone specific but then I saw Yuzuru's short program and I was fckin blown away.

Ещё ребёнком Ханю мечтал стать олимпийским чемпионом. И он сдержал свое слово. Браво, Юдзуру! Ты - чемпион всей планеты под названием Земля!
At the age of just 19, he first skated a flawless short program to Parisienne Walkways in the Team Event, then he was able to repeat a perfect skate in the individual event for which received 101.45 points. It was a World record, an Olympic record, and he became the first male skater who received more than 100 points in the SP. He won his first Olympic gold medal with a total score of 280.09 after he also won the free program segment as well.
Four years later, after suffering a potentially career-ending injury just three months before the Olympic Games, he came back with a glorious short program to Ballade No. 1, which was another Olympic record (111.68). He landed a perfect 4S, a 3A and a 4T-3T combination, the last two jumping passes in the second half of the program.
In his iconic Seimei free program he again landed four quadruples and showed magnificient skating skills, transitions throughout his program and in and out of his jumps (that 3A-lo-3S!), spins, performance and interpretation. He showed why he is the total package.
He won his second Olympic Gold medal and became the first male figure skater since 1952 to win back-to-back Olympic Gold medals.
His two gorgeous gala programs, White Legend and Notte Stellata are the cherries on the top in this video.

Он сделал невозможное, превратил вид спорта в недосягаемое исскуство к которому можно прикоснуться, но дотянуться до него невозможно ни сейчас, и полагаю много позже. Это не просто величайшее мастерство, это что-то глубоко сакральное, будто у него со льдом персональная магическая сделка длиною в жизнь. Много талантливых, много прыгучих, и много пластичных и грациозных фигуристов, уже исполнен даже 4А. Но при этом внутри непокидающее чувство, как будто лед (соревновательный) осеротел без него.
С ним ушла целая эпоха, эпоха красоты, запредельной страсти, пленительной утонченности, мужественности и уверенности в невозможном. Художник, превративший лед в холст , он сделал этот вид спорта достоянием не только нации, но и всего мира. И однажды увидев его на льду, забыть это уже невозможно.

They did some progress though, every recent ISU event is broadcasted (often live) on CZcams, so we can enjoy watching more competitions than before
@@estellevolin but the way they underscore contestants. Not only on Hanyu but also on other skaters from other countries. And questionable GOEs given. They also deleted Hanyu's performance on their yt channel with millions of views.

He is always the best skater out of all! He is the GOAT forever, the first and only one.
He is one of those people that is born to be a performer. I watch a lot of other skaters but his program just hits different. It’s not only the technicalities but he has so much charisma on the rink and he performs like he is the best, it’s very entertaining

Watching Hanyu skating make it much harder to watch others’ because no one else can give you this kind of gorgeous, breathless beauty and tranquility, the elements that you just couldn’t find in any other skaters for some reason. I can watch his programs over and over without tiredness because of the unspeakable beauty in his skating. I don’t know if I would watch male figure skating any more without Hanyu in the competition.

I’m rewatching this now that he’s announced his retirement and I will always envy people who got the chance to watch him preform live. I really hope one day I’ll be able to witness his artistry and greatness in person. Everlasting legend.

i can watch Yuzuru glide and dance on ice even without the jumps. he is so mezmerizing!!! he makes me so happy. Yuzu's costume shows both Romeo and Juliet outfits in one.

I’m so lucky to see Yuzuru’s performance in this life
It speaks volumes that 3 years later, people are still here enjoying and feeling the same awe at yuzuru's skating, with some even just discovering him for the first time. His draw to the sport, charisma, natural born talent mixed with extreme hardwork and perseverance is palpable through the screen. We're so lucky to be able to watch a master do what he's been put on this earth to do.
