Imagine how proud they are of each other and themselves
This was her 5th time at Olympia, winning two bronze medals before. But she said she couldn’t stop or retire without winning gold. She was so sad about the bronze medals that she said she couldn’t look at them and kept them in the basement. The saddest part was, that it was always her partners „fault“ and never her who made a mistake. So her winning gold was really her dream come true and the result of 30 years of hard work.

How what happened? Why is he the reason for that
Yep, she had nothing to lose, gave it her all and was rewarded amazingly!!
@@GodOfFools he made some mistakes in a previous routine that dropped them to 4th. you could read Aljona's lips and see she asked if he messed up the jump (not in this video, but video of the routine he messed up in), so she knew and was pretty upset. So this routine he brought 200% and made it all up to her.

Seeing his relief after they finished still makes me cry even more then the breathtaking choreography.
She is an absolute queen and star of her art!
So is he. But it's clear how nervous he must have been, how thankful he is to her, how proud she is of him and how much this means to him.
Everything technical and even their incredible skill aside: Seeing this personal connection and reaction is so touching to me.
You both did great! I am so proud of you!
I literally got shivers all over my body. No doubt that she's the queen of her art. But Bruno was the one in the zone, completely in the moment, in a state of ecstasy overwhelming with emotions. This is THE BEST all time pairs free skate I have ever seen. They have so many unique elements, and that final lift sequence where somehow it looks like he is not even holding her, and the crowd gasps at something like that they have never seen before...unless of course, you saw them performing this program in the Grand Prix and other events. It is a performance for the books. If there is an Olympic Hall of Fame, Aliona should be one of the first inductees, and not just for her gold medal. She is an Olympic legend.
If there is a routine to describe Paired Ice Skating this is it . This routine was absolutely flawless , no other word can describe it . Everything was perfection . Starting with the music , the wardrobe which suits exceptionally with the PyeongChang decor , the mid celebration when she realised she landed one of the hardest jumps in history … I watch this every year , I am 23 and I still cry like a child when I see it .There is no other gold medal in Olympic Games more well deserved then this one . Sheer perfection.
Yes. I absolutely agree. The routine, music, costumes...everything was perfection. ❤

I don't think anyone can actually be strong enough to yeet me like that 😅
I love how they just literally lay down on the ice afterwards.
I'm not completely sure but i think laying down on the ice completely flat is a banned move. Even though i think it adds to a dramatic effect.
@@joooecool it is banned but the program was over at that point, so no problem, it is only banned because its not considered skating, not for a health reason or anything
@@morfos95 oh yeah i did hear that!
Yet another call-back to Torvill and Dean's "Boléro", along with the similar costumes and certain elements of the programme choreographed by Christopher Dean.
@Burnt Orange The use of one piece of music that gradually builds and builds, as well as quickening in tempo is another similarity, in addition to the ones you mentioned. They are two highly individual programmes and the connections between them are subtle yet undeniable.
Best routine EVER, seamless, flawless, exquisitively choreographed. Hypnotic music, sheer perfection. Absolutely mind-blowing! This is exactly what pair skating is all about. Just try to figure out what it must have meant to Aliona... Never have I been so proud of two complete strangers!
Will always remember this … my wife and I were there to watch it live, and this performance was incomparable. I had no idea it was a world record score till watching it just now! Feel very honored to have been there to see it.

Their performance at the WM 2018 was even better. Here, their performance at the Winter Olympics had a few (more) little mistakes like the lack of synchro at 8:10 f. ^^
Everyone talking about how he threw her effortlessly but nobody is talking about the way she lands perfectly. Every. Goddamn. Time.
Ikrr!!
Yea true that. You gotta give it to her for landing like that. Takes amazing talent
Not nobody. I read several comments here on the magnificence of her landings. Bruno gets mentioned frequently because he makes Aljona entirely weightless in his hands, among many other reasons. She is still the focal point for sure, but, when compared to other men, Bruno does a better job making his partner look amazing. The guy is a mensch among his less-studly peers.
Despite being past her prime and never having won more than Olympic bronze in her attempts dating back to 2002, Aljona won the gold with this performance in immense part because of her partner. They smashed the records in points, which was incredible considering this was her first Olympic win so late in her career (aged 34). All of this points heavily to Bruno.
@@EzerEben uh you make it seem like she only put little to no effort when in reality it was both of them who made this performance absolutely magnificent

Sidenote: I love how their costumes match the background. Normally you'd wanna stand out, but this worked perfectly imo. They make the arena their backdrop, part of the story.
I love your take on that. I always felt like I was watching two characters in a winter themed story when watching this routine, and the purple backdrop accentuated that theme very well.
These things are not planned. The costumes take time to make and these costumes are from a very popular designer named Lisa McKinnon so the waiting list is long and the costumes are made in good time before the competition. It’s actually just a coincidence that the colors matches so perfectly, but it looks great!
i love their outfits! theyre so pretty 😍
@@user-gc9jx4dv2o i think it was planned, One year before the olympics there was a General try out, and the rink looked the same. She had it at the Nebelhorn trophy: Sep 29, 2017
Cool
I love how they both just collapse after they’re done. Like Jfc thats over. The amount of control and practice they must’ve gone through to put out such a performance.
Lifetime of practice, yup.
And how many times must he have dropped her before they mastered those jumps and throws..? Ouch!
7 olympics
This is the greatest pairs free skating program ever, and it will always be my favorite, I said immediately as I watched it. I have seen a lot of pairs free skating programs throughout the years, but I always have a very special place in my heart for this pair. I believe that the movement and music to be so synchronized that it makes me feel really emotional watching it.The music feels as if it was specially composed for Aljona and Bruno's Olympic final program. The music contains every emotion as it has peaceful, exciting, passionate, sad and strong melodies. In short, it is magnificent... I am sure this excites even those who watch it for the first time. They had been deserving of the gold medal at all times. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this program. All that remains for ice skating enthusiasts like us is to honor and these magnificent programs with respect.💜💜
Their opening pose alone shows such artistry. They have the musicality of the best ballet dancers.
and she did that with FREAKING HOOP EARRINGS
I always find it fascinating when athletes can wear jewelry and not let it distract them.
Omg I never thought of that until now - HOW?!
Wow what a dumb and irrelevant comment.
Alistair Wright no it’s not because hoops can move and feel uncomfortable in some situations and necklaces can move when spinning and such.
I was the one who got distracted when i saw her wearing it
For people who doesn't know their story, in short:
It was FIFTH Olympics for Aljona, she got two bronzes with previous partner but she paired up with Bruno only four years before 2018 Olympics. She's native Ukrainian, he's French, they competed for Germany, because she was representing Germany with previous partner Robin Szolkowy after she left Ukraine because of lack of money and federation support. They had to pay a huge money for French federation for the 'release' for Bruno from France. Her story is crazily unbelievable, but worth to know. Definitely iconic pair.
Wow, so much going on. Thank you for this information!
... not to forget that Bruno had to become a German citizen and failed the exam, he became his German passport only 3 month before they started for Pyeongchang, having trained 4 years. And then the mistake Bruno did in their short routine, so that they lost 4 points and had to start on the 4th position and were not sure to get gold even after this stunning performance - only after the other also really strong pairs did one after another some small mistakes, it was clear that they got the gold medal. Indeed, Hollywood should go for the story! :)
Omg I'm from Ukraine! Thought her name was slav but got confused seeing that she represented Germany. Can't blame her for leaving, definitely gonna get out some time in the future as well
That's sad... They should represent their country, imo.
It must be strange for him, competiting his own country
the most beautiful pairs piece i have ever seen, perfection. The chinese pairs who are now at the helm are not even a patch. stunning
Hello, it's been six years. Anyone else still watching? ❤
He makes her look like she weighs nothing
I mean, she looks like she weights like 80 pounds, so that’s basically the same as nothing 😅
The female skater is very skinny, and so light. I am afraid she falls
@@elisabethdakak878 She may look skinny but she is not. She is all muscle and very strong. You should watch her work out videos to see how powerfully strong she is.
massot is among the better throwers in this competition. all the other guys look like they're hauling something that weighs a ton during throws (stops, so much lurching and heaving), whereas massot has very good form in his throws. very minimal lurching and heaving, and hardly ever stopping while throwing. that requires a lot of skill and coordination between the two. massot's throwing form is almost similar to the legendary grinkov's
@@zilam98 I agree with your assessment. Also, in the skating world Bruno is known and acknowledged for his incredibly strenght. Following the Olympics in one of TSL Skating Lesson interviews aired with the Canadian Olympic bronze medal Meagan Dunhamel; that was also the General consensus i.e. Bruno' incredible strength.
