Ollie " I can see straightaway some upgrades that you can do - put latex inner tubes in"
That's seriously impressive eyesight đł
probably wasn't looking at the bike
Well, not whatever Ollie says is law...... And many people found not having advantage using tubeless. And on what he says, the tt bike should have won....
@@zambokid89 The time difference was only 10 seconds and Manon's average power was 35W higher, so Ollie can still be right that TT bike and aero helmet saved 30W.
@@zambokid89 The difference between tubeless and clincher/latex is minimal but latex tubes don't offer the same puncture protection. With clincher/butyl, I think there is defenitly a difference in R.R. but it's a bit more puncture resistant. :)
Tubeless get you all the pros without the cons but are a bit messier to deal with.
@@nounours2627 Deceunick-Quickstep is riding tubeless tires with latex inners on all their wheels this year. Only Roubaix was planned for tubbies. Now thatâll be at the end of the season and with more data they have said they might even go for same setup for PRB.
They managed to extract Manon from the recumbent, that's impressive!
It's literally as easy as getting out of a bathtub. Basically it is a bath tub. But a very fast one ;-)
@@4nz-nl I am not prepared for a fast bathtub.
@@4nz-nl I think what he meant is that "Manon doesn't want to get out of the bathtub".
@@4nz-nl so basically bathtub on wheels?
@@cuckooreloaded Yup. Even worse: A leaking bathtub :)
Both Manon and Heather deserve lots of credit. Doing a TT is not easy and most riders never even do one. Come on give it a go everyone!!!
Thanks Bobby.
Iâd love to ride a TT bike. But theyâre just way more expensive than road bikes. A good road bike itself is already expensive. Also if youâre going to ride TT. Itâs mandatory that you must look the part for aero gains. Which means you need a skin suit and a TT helmet. Which also donât comes cheap. Donât even get started with optimizing your TT bike with marginal gain upgrades. A new carbon wheel set could easily cost as much as a new bike.
@@iMadrid11 What you have said is incorrect Chris. You don't need a TT bike. You can do one on a normal road bike. You are testing yourself, not trying to win the race.
Wear a tight fitting top and that will gain you more aero advantage than a TT bike.
You can also buy some cheap aero bars (Triathlon bars) that will fit onto the cross bar of a road bike. Loads on ebay for less than ÂŁ50.
If you get the bug you can upgrade in the years to come.
I would say 80% of people do their first TT's either on road bikes or a road bike with bolt on aero bars.
Go for it.
@@iMadrid11 go with pre owned TT bikes
@@bobbysilver272 true. You only "need" to get an expensive pro bike if you actually need one, like if you are going to try to win a competition. People can go TT with an $800 bike if they want to, if they are not in a competition then they are just comparing their numbers against their own and see if there would be improvements.
Bloody love the GCN and GTN presenters. Like my own little virtual friends throughout lockdown. Ooooo cycling friendssss
Great to hear we're helping you through lock down :)
@@heatherfell_oly Most definitely Heather, really enjoying the content (and how down to earth the presenters are). Have a great week! :)
Manon is a wolf in sheep's clothing ;-). She looks friendly and peaceful, but on the bike she turns into a predator that rips anybody into pieces...
And that's why we love her !!!
She is world class. Lots of trophy(s).
she s from track cycling
cringe
Track cycling makes people stronger imho
Excellent video. After the 20 mile TT challenge from Heather, âNext week on GCN, Ollie fits Manon on her new TT bike.â đ
Ollie is that lad in your local bike shop, that you just hope services your bike.
Great video. It certainly shows the benefit of a TT bike. It also shows what a great rider Manon is.
đȘ
I love the comaraderie between these 2 channels. Subscribed to both. Whenever I see itâs a collaboration the vid gets a like before Iâve watched it. Hereâs to good weather soon!
And the mountain bike channel: the colabs with them are epic as well!
@@wilfdarr thanks! Didnât know about that one yet!
This is amazing... Seeing Ollie out of character and being sensible!
Manon could've saved 20 watts if she didn't burn so many calories putting her sun glasses on and off 600 times before starting the race.
8:58
Heather: *serious af*
Manon: *smiling*
At 8:58 Manon looks less like smiling and more.... like the Joker.
#CyclingSociopath
I love the GTN and GCN collaboration. I'm not a triathlete, so I only got introduced to Heather of GTN when Manon challenged her to Cyclist vs Runner calorie challenge a few months ago. So, I've been binge-watching Heather GTN videos. About 2 years ago there was a GTN 15 Minute HIIT workout with Heather and Hank. So, you want to watch Hank suffer, watch this video. At one point Heather says: "..3-2-1. Go to the end. Unlike James. We don't want any slackers...". Poor Hank, she literally killed him. By the way, I'm subscribed to GCN+ just to see Hank suffer more. I am not disappointed!!!
I reckon Hank would get me back if given the chance! We love working with GCN presenters, great you've found GTN too.
Ollie rightly sitting back saying âI told you soâ...
funnily enough this 10W with latex inner tubes could make her won!
Absolutely. Why bother getting advice then completely ignore it. Do it for the Triathletes!
Please keep using the metric system. đ¶
Thumbs up only for the reason having Manon and Heather in one video!
Can't wait for the re-test during the summer.
Nor can we!
Heather on screen: calm/cooled... Heather on bike: THERE IS NO MICROPHONE AND IM GOING TO SCREAM THE WHOLE TIME
Holy smokes ladies! Well done đđ» 260 Watts, wow đ€©
Manon is seriously impressive on the bike.
So you are you, Heather - amazing!! đȘđŒ
I was expecting a cut away at the end to Oli shaking his head and muttering âlatex inner tubesâ over and over
So it is 1 Manon vs. 1 TT bike while it is 4+ ex professionals vs. 1 Simon on TT. Impressive Manon!
Well 3ex pros + 1 actual pro + ollie's moral support I think is more accurate
also impressive Cy
Well done Manon, I thought Heather would have that easily (especially after Ollies traitorous behaviour!)
Can we have some X vs Y sprints, Manon always seems to be out of her specialism. Long runs in the cold and wet. How about GCN vs GTN elimination race?
Okay, first of all, Props to Heather, that's some solid power in the freezing cold on a TT bike.
I thought Heather had it when she brought out the TT bike and helmet, and then Manon goes and brings out the Wattage Bazooka. Holy smokes can she throw down the power. I knew she was fast, but still. Wowzer.
Heather getting advice from the guy who got dropped in the the GCN time trial. HAHAHA
Too soon but hilarious
good race. this really does put in to perspective Joshua Cheptegei's 5000m world record at just over 12.35 (running)
Great video...I half expected Manon to run up in the recumbent :)
She didnât need any more help!
I love Manson vs Heather videos! Girl power đ
Excellent video. I like the properly-competitive-with-some-novelty setup. Cheers.
Sometimes we forget that Manon is such a beast while she's presenting all perky and funny. Goodjob ladies
Perky eh.
Love these challenges and insights. Even though 10 seconds off, it realky shows how much the aero additions help when you've not got the same power output.
Fantastic vids guys, absolutely loved this!
4 laps of that circuit =12km , AVG speed of 19m = ~38km/h.
Really??? only 12 km? It's very reassuring to know that I'm not that bad of a female cycling enthusiast myself! :) I'm mid 40's using a fairly cheap 11kg bike in a very warm and humid tropical country...and I've done a 12km ride at an ave speed of 39km/hr a few months ago USING A GRAVEL BIKE (on the road)...maybe I should get me a real road bike then!
Love it, that was awesome to watch!
Manon on road bike vs Si on tt ? đ
Meh. This one is more informative than the one on GCN. They made the choice of helping all the triathletes by giving out tips on how you overcome a roadyđ and still being entertaining
@@henrigaufillier4350 for sure, not arguing that!
lmao both hank & connor which are stronger on the road (than manon ofc) lost to si, how do you think manon would do?
The GCN one was pure entertainment it didn't really aim to inform but I think they were genuinely surprised that Si kept winning so I guess we still learned something.
@@itarry4 I agree. Is it really data intensive? Naw, but these guys clearly have a bit of pride on the line, and the fact that 4 of them in a pace line (not the best one however... :P ) going all out wasn't enough to beat one guy on a TT bike is a pretty emphatic way to drive the point home about how much more aero it is.
this has got me supper excited for my first race of the year at this same track!!! great vid as ever đ€
Great to hear, hope it's not far away.
Manon beat a TT bike... on her own... wtf sheâs an actual beast
She beat a lesser rider... No need to spunk yr pants.
I like the additional drone footage, that was a nice touch. Well done Manon!
Manon's an absolute machine! Running away from a TT bike while on a road bike seems near impossible, but she just comes along and does it, mad lass!
What an absolute joy to see two fantastic athletes, in their respective fields, perform for us and to keep it all so friendly and amiable, a genuine video of how sport should be, something we should all respect. Did I see horns appear on Manonâs forehead once she went into race mode, I think I did!
how about Mark Vs Si - 25km TT (drafting allowed) ?
Now I say yes!
make it better - 100km tt - both in recumbents
@@bikeanddogtrips Si will beat Mark then, as long as they are the same bikes. 100 km is not enough to wear Si out enough to lose. In a Milan, you'd need 500 for that. It simply does not get uncomfortable, the only thing that'll hurt are your legs.
Definitely need a rematch đ great work
Swimming next time
âIâm going to go an work on my aero positionâ... ok, I get it but Iâd work on bumping up the power numbers too. Manon did a great job there!
Muaythai
Mantap lu anjing
Liked it a lot. You definitely need more women at GCN, GTN, G-alltheother channelâs. Donât get me wrong the whole team is great đ.
That didn't feel like a 15 min video.. More like a 5 min video..very engaging i must say đđđŒ
The showdown we never thought we needed!
Wow, strong work. And so inspirational.
Great race... well done to both ladies.
Was nice to see a race between competitive people without excuses and bs!
This just put a smile on my face
Thank you, @Heather Fell & GTN for another wonderful video! Too bad that Manon is such a beast of a cyclist; I could nearly have bet for this result. But please make that re-match 40k instead!
love these crossovers
Since air resistance increases with the square of the speed, I guess another option would be a fast linear long course with a slight downhill slope. A longer course and tri-suit may do the trick though.
I was kind over expecting to see a modern retake of Chris Boardman's 1992 olympic qualifier đ€Łđđ€Ł
Stoked about the result!!
Way to go Manon you did GCN proud!
Great video Ladies...... nice to see the two of ye go head to head for a change......đ Ollie in the headlines again.....đđđ
The rematch should be on Manon speciality track sprinting. If the triatholete had things her way on the first event then it's only fair to reverse things in the rematch.
Great video. And Iâd love to se you switching bikes. I believe Manon will do great on the TT bike. đđ»
Oh how I long to race against other people after watching this. It would be nice to see you two switch bikes and do again just to set the number. Fantastic work. I'm going riding now.
Wow...fun to watch. Well done ladies.
it's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who sees 20 miles as a fairly long ride
LOL. I've done 133.6 miles in 12.4 hours on a 73 lb tour bike with a SA XL-RD5w.
They're so good. Great contest.
This was fun to watch :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!
these girls are def rockstars - big thumbs up for the attitude and performance... not to say about the video contend. (only 10 seconds... hummm... in that way, if Ollie is right about his "latex inner tubes being an extra 10w" we could see Heather Flipping it in a next race, (considering all other circumstances the same). actually I wold love to see that result! - maybe another video??? I truly think thousands of viewers would love to see that too. - Heather & Manon, truly #powergirls
What a cracking match-up. Two great presenters who both, politely, wanted to smash the other one! I love Heather, but as soon as Manonâs name was mentioned, I knew the result... and then the bikes came into play and I had to reassess. Blooming close race. Canât wait for the summer rematch now
I'm totally impressed with Manon! You are a beast. Now I will like to see you riding the TT bike and Heather the road bike. Great video.
Half way through this video and I'm already yelling, "C'Mon Manon!!!"
Haha!
Heather's mind: "If I do this, then the numbers will do that. If I change this, then I should gain this number of Watts."
Manon's mind: "Alright, let's hammer down on these pedals and teach my treasonous colleague a lesson!"
I love this show!! Great stuff. But does Heather has the seatpost a bit to high? Her hips a rotating a bit too much or?
+Manon: I think you are really cool. I wish we could be friends. Congrats on your win. And brova on your sportsmanship! An example for all!
Manon is a real beast. Great video. #respect
Dr. Bridgewoods voice in normal mode is very pleasant! The presenter voice works too, but the casual speaking is really nice and new and fresh.
Way to represent GCN Manon! Well done!
I liked the first sound track they used.
Great vid, go Manon!
Great race.,
The drone footage is very cool
Thanks!
Ollie dropping some serious knowledge there!
And we all noticed the results đ€Ł
What front cogs and rear cassette were on the bikes
i knew manon was gonna win! well done both of you!
After more than 7 years I still consider myself as a beginner, but what I am good at is riding in an aggressive position for several hours and in my opinion this brings the greatest gain in speed.
Because of the bike boom, all the workshops are closed and I have to do all the maintenance myself... that's why my main training machine is a entry-level Merida Scultura 100 with Claris R2000 8-speed... I have put some 43 mm mid-depth rims on it together with 25 mm Conti GP 5000, a narrower handlebar, 7.5 cm saddle to bar drop and as soon as I go over 28 km/h, I ride in the drops. On my main route there is a steady -2% gradient over 30 km, which means that on the way back I can constantly ride at 45 km/h with my setup and that feels great.
Even on my commuter I ride in the same position with a slammed -17 degree 105 mm stem, only then with a messenger backpack, just to get used to the position and it works for me.
Great race. But better if you add speed and watts of each one during the race. And also gap between them
Everyone has their own quirks! Haha. Heather's appear to be this little twitch (12:22), pushing the brake levers away with her fingers. Adorable!
No one had ever pointed that out before, totally oblivious.
Why is Heather bouncing on the saddle at 3:50? Seems like a fit issue?
One thing that stood out to me was Heather's cadence looked quite low. TT's on flats are about endurance so recruiting type II fibers would help stave off fatigue. Then again, some people get by with low cadence but maybe try some speed skills workouts to see if it helps add some watts.
Now for a 5k run challenge...
That Aero advantage is impressive! đł
Next - Olympic Tri competition?! Only fair đCongrats on another top video, the crossovers are fab. Heather is a real top presenter, and incredible all round athlete. Manon, one with the machine (she should interview with sky net?!).
Thanks Vince.
How can you work for GTN and it be the 1st time this year that your riding in the aero position?
You know what's coming next, right?
Manon VS EMBN.
GCN's lucky to have Manon. A monster with a cute smile.
That was a good one. 10 sec was close. Well done Manon. It would be good to have a follow up in the future.
Canât wait for the rematch but I better get training.
@@heatherfell_oly Some good incentive to get some work in. It was very close though. Time for tubeless or latex tubes as well! These GTN / GCN videos are good.
@@innesdunbar Oh i think so!
How many times a cyclist puts on his glasses before the race xD Besides it,s a very nice video ;)
I'm currently watching Ollie give aero kit tips to Heather, and now I hope Manon shows up in proper velodrome kit for this and goes all out.
Whats the black helmet heather was using?
I would love to see a rematch
Cool show
What are the bikes used?
Ollie "dropping" some aero wisdom ;)
LMAO đ
Manon has some powerful legs. Impressive. Hats off to the both of you.
Both of them are amazing female cyclists! Great video!đ„°
