  • 97% of small airports that handled less than 1m passengers in 2019 lost money: airport-world.com/amp/small-a.... Over US$40m was spent to expand the loss making Ian-Fleming-International-Airport for it to handle under 8k passengers per annum. Those who are responsible must be made to explain themselves because the major beneficiaries are local hoteliers.
The Jamaica Labour Party and the People's National Party are sacrificing Jamaica for foreign investors to get rich, and this is worsening under the present administration. One of the most egregious and nefarious acts is mining. There needs to be an immediate investigation, so I started this petition: chng.it/dMHQFY9T5v. Petitions are invariably ignored, so we need this to go viral. We need international attention to put government mismanagement under the microscope. So please sign and circulate it.

That LITTLE airport was built in the early 1950s. There is no more land space to expand

The airport is ideally located to be a good arrival point for visitors to Jamaica. The sad thing is that no one seemed to understand or if they did they hid the reality of what length of runway was needed to facilitate landing flights there. They also never studied the fleet makeup of most carriers now serving Jamaica, especially the budget carriers. One is right to ask if they were stupid or wanted to fool Jamaicans into using taxpayer money unwisely. Currently, the AA small Embraer 175 jet is the only commercial jet able to land on the short runway. Of note too, its short range limits it to one east coast USA city, Miami. Also, an aircraft the majority of carriers like Jet Blue, Spirit, Swoop, and South West do not have in their fleet. Ian Fleming International will remain a waste of taxpayer money until they figure out a way to extend the runway to almost double its size than what is there currently. A logistic feat that will be extremely expensive if you know anything about the land space available there before it goes into the sea. It may seem political but the government has really hoodwinked the people on this project or worse fooled themselves.

Delta Airlines and United Airlines like AA have Embraer E175's in their fleet too. They they can operate them from Atlanta and Houston, but we'll wait and see what happens next for Ian Fleming International Airport in Jamaica!!!!

What is the point of building an airport which accommodates only small-sized planes from only one part of one country? Which means they're not making back the money they spent to build and upgrade the airport. Who are the organisers and planners? Waste of money. Just to say there is a third airport in Ochi Rios. This proves that Jamaica does not need another airport. Even when Canada starts flights there they're still losing. Jamaica won't make back the money neither the airport cannot self sustained itself. Jamaica do not need anymore airport. Two are enough.

Silly comment. What do you mean better than none? Jamaica didn't need this airport because there are two already which are enough for a small country like Jamaica. The airport cannot be self-sustained because not enough flights land there. So, it is costing the government and the people paying taxes. You don't build an airport just to say that an airport in the area. The management and team must analyse how will the airport bring in the principal amount of money used to upgrade and profits. As far as I see, they're losing and at the same time costing the government. They were too swell-headed.

It simply means they had not done a proper research to facilitate the bigger airlines...therfore one can say this was formulated by the business men and the prime minister approved then sign the planning application, applying tax payers money for funding. It belongs to Jamaica, not like the other 2 airports leased out for 25 more years to Canada....is Canadian money involved? We are a resilient people and we shall overcome this temporary disappointment. Airports develop its surroundings. Let us all be patience and find solutions ❤

Award winning tourism minister? How can tourism fail with a name brand country that its people including sports stars, musicians poets and others have put it on the map. I dare to say even it's gangsters have certain mystique to others check the movies. It would be hard for a minister to fail at tourism. The only question is the money made from tourism in jamaica is it filtering back to its people with so many sharks in the game?
