If I had to sum it up in a sentence, I'd say gifted kids have a depth about them that typical kids don't. It's not a 'good' / 'bad' thing. They have deep sensitivity and curiosity, their powers of observation are quite acute ('deep'?), etc. Which unfortunately gives rise to perfectionism. Not to mention, a certain amount of rejection from others who do not feel, see, or hear (smell?) what they do.
Also the ability to experience life in more refined way due to more perceptive nature
My English is self-taught. I did so when I was 11. Read historical novels, wrote short stories, always understood other people's feelings and even cried often because I couldn't help those in need.
I was always bored with small talk and tedious taks.
I remember ridiculous amounts of things. Pick up a lot of new skills very easily...
But everything bores me and my perfectionism gets in the way of achieving things sometimes.
Connecting to others can be a drag but I've learned to relax a little bit.
I literally cried a bit watching this short video, i have nearly, if not, all if these characteristics and I’m nearly of “adult” age. I never had the ego to look up “gifted” individuals, guess I’m gonna spiral down another rabbit hole with this topic, oh boy.
Have you found out something? I also relate to nearly all of these characteristics. I've been feeling weird all my 30yo life, feeling "anormal", even at university, but my IQ is not impressive.
@@b4udelaire IQ seems to favor people with higher testosterone or higher prenatal testosterone level. So maybe you have a feminine mind and need to tweak your approach a little to score better.
Or maybe you're one of those left-handed folks with an unusual brain. About 50% of lefties have a "reverse" brain while the other half are freaks!

@ham burges those are really good points. I sorta forgot about this video tbh for related reasons and I've yet to speak to a professional about it. Although it is on my list of things to do, I'm not going to identify with it until i do so. i have other things to focus on in the meantime.
I am a gifted child as I love learning, love reading, have good focus, good memory, quick learner, large vocabulary, highly sensitive, creative thinking, and I tend to have intense feelings and reactions. Then, I got bullied and they put me down by saying that I'm dumb, I wasn't clever enough and lost a lot of confidence.
Definitely also including short attention span, regarding mundane, routine-like, and superficial topics - especially considering that giftedness can/might come with ADD or ADHD and a lot of other different mental illnesses.
I love a lot of things about being gifted but at the same time I hate a lot of things about it too.
Things I love
1-being different than others eg being the only vegetarian I know in my extended family/school/college/neighborhood
2-knowing a lot of stuff others don't.
3-being more compassionate than others.
Things I hate
1-being misunderstood by others.
2-getting bullied most of my childhood.
3-My life goals keep changing eg I'm in the final year of med school and planning to do a postgrad after that but I don't want to pursue my career in this field.
4-being lazy af
To be honest, it's a double edged sword.
I think focus and dedication, striving to achieve the goals, no matter what.
This describes both of my sons quite well. The older one, nearly 100%. Maybe not unusually long attention span, but everything else. Specifically, he had 30 words at 12 months, used "actually" at about 3.5 years, and all other points. He is now 10 and in beginning algebra for HS credit. My younger son hits most of these, as well, including acute observation, understanding nuance, and knowing things no one tried to teach.
So many boxes on that list are checked with my 7yr old. Just kind of take it for granted. This is very helpful.

It is SO important that schools STOP mis-labeling gifted children as "emotionally-behaviorally DISABLED/impaired" - after FRUSTRATING gifted children into misbehavior, by being dis-acknowledging and negligent towards their educational and emotional needs in school !!! Gifted kids NEED to be provided for in schools - they need to be able to work on things that interest and engage them, consistently - and they need breaks too!! Even in elementary school - if they need a break from the classroom, then let them have one! If they need to walk the halls for a while, then let them - and don't label them as "disabled" or "problem" children that need their behavior "fixed" and punished for such needs !!! It is CONVENIENT and profitable for schools to mis-label and mistreat gifted students as "disabled", because there's funding for that, but NOT for the needs of gifted students!!! The result can be as bad as what happened to my young close relative - gifted children mis-labeled, neglected, and mistreated in schools can become victims of extreme mental and emotional ABUSE by school staff, and also be physically ABUSED by them! Then, to cover for their willfully ignorant blunders with gifted children, they may then resort to treachery and legal damages against parents! Be vigilant in caring for and ADVOCATING for gifted children!!! Their needs and the need to understand those needs are real !!! Picture a scene of a mislabeled (as "emotionally-behaviorally disabled"!), neglected and abused -BY THE SCHOOL, BROKEN DOWN child, at school so ABUSED by school staff that they crawl into a corner on the floor, and then the venomous so called "educators" dare even call in the police, to interrogate their elementary school child VICTIM, to cover for the results of their willfully ignorant and negligent treatment of a gifted child - and then try to pass the blame onto the child's mother!! Think it can't happen? It DID! This precious child is now HOMESCHOOLED - away from these persons working conscienceless abuse and neglect, in the name of being educational "experts." More awareness needs to happen. Thanks for your video!
i think one thing you should emphasize on is the many interests that a gifted human would obtain, or traits and advantages.
for example, a gifted being would be quite good with their mind and basic psychology that allows them to get a grasp on almost anything quite well, like from primary school to secondary to getting out of school, the average human being would of had interests over this time, a gifted human being would of lost track of all the interests he/she would of obtained over the time. leaving them in a kind of 'jack of all trades' position without knowing it. iv been skating for 10 years , I play guitar, artistic, studying psychology (for fun) i have been currently starting up 2 businesses over the last 2 years (ENJOYABLE BUSINESSES) I take interest in the 7 Chakras, love playing mind games, spiritual, I DJ , made 1st team rugby, played indoor soccer, i am also a junior graphic designer, and i have come up with a simple theory or 2- the average mind thinks i am crazy until my psychology teacher explained that my theory exists in every movement of atoms and creation through thoughts, which works through perfect balance of -- and + . the funny part is when someone older then me doesn't understand the most simplest of things that are right in front of them. SUCH AS THE NEED OF PERFECT BALANCE. But hey i am not going to say i am perfect or a genius or a gifted soul. I do believe i have just lived longer then others and their time will come to understand clearer too.
everything you put into that video is very true, i would of just gone into better depth with the many interests part.
Alot of this is what's called cognitive flexibility, it's taking a concept and allowing it to change an adapt itself to form a new concept that has it's original concepts and combines new concepts and interpretations.

forgot about the depression that occurs and not being people person. I took an IQ test and did well at the VA. They told me that I was in the right spot studying applied mathematics though but OCD is horrible and perfectionism. I was always told that I was a handful as a kid since according to a boss that I see the world as puzzles.
I have most those traits but I don't have the ego to assume I am "gifted". I think most people will latch onto this type of information because it makes them feel good about themselves. A lot of those traits/qualities are fairly ambiguous so people will just remember instances in their lives where they were demonstrated them and falsely believe they are better than average.
I have brown hair. It doesn't make me arrogant to know I have brown hair. Also, you seem to have a large enough ego to start writing comments on videos about how you are superior because "you don't do this" and are arrogant enough to dress down people who have not asked for your opinion. Bullies do it too.
Make a stupid analogy about hair then call me a bully and frame as though I have a large ego even though I am not the one trying to call myself gifted as many of the comments on this video seem to be. I never said anything about being superior just that it's possible that these people want to be gifted therefore they call themselves it. What I am saying is a fairly simple concept but judging by your analogy you do not seem to understand it.
I watch this videos to further understand myself. I'm not even necessarily happy that I can fit a lot of these characteristics and did as a child because
A: school doesn't really seem to support these kids.
And B: What is the the percentage of people who are 'gifted' out of the whole pot? My guess is I'm in the minority and... Being misunderstood by most people is always fun.
But then again... I do love it.

You describe my daughter perfectly. Unfortunately, her school has no gifted program and refuses to see her relationship problems as anything having to do with how she thinks or that she's past her grade so they keep her stuck where her age says she 'should' be, bored with the work, frustrated with her fellow students, and beginning to disengage from learning. At age 8. We do a lot of supplementary stuff at home but she wants to be a kid and do 'lazy after school kid' stuff. Who can blame her?
I too hated my high school my high school was supposedly the best in the state of New Jersey yet I was sent to a multitude of psychologists who mislabeled with a slew of fictitious disabilities when I did my masters in international human rights law in oxford I got first class with honors in everything I practically slept through my four classes (international humanitarian criminal law rights of women rights of refugees) and I wrote my 12,000 word dissertation is just 12 days (given eight months) and wrote my 2,000 word essay on human rights law in just 65 minutes given four months

I have a son who at 2 years old was playing with hotwheels on racicing tracts,explained to me in his words thier trajectories, why they will crash. What 2 year old says trajectories? probably an engineer.. but he's 4 now I'm trying to mold him into medical profession, to incorporate this because I'm teaching him Anatomy and Physiology. I wasn't taught abstract ideas like he has
Being someone with 140+ IQ score and a student of final year of med school,I'll advise you to let your son decide his career once he grows up.I got into med school just because of the family/social pressure but I have no intention of practicing this profession as there are a lot of things I like doing more than this.

I actually plan on creating a school for these types of kids and getting it more widespread (after I graduate highschool, if I do 🤣). I want them to be supported in an environment that sustains their talents as both individuals and groups, as well as have the opportunity that I've been trying to get my whole life. I have constantly switched schools just to find the 'right one', and I can't with all of these so-called 'promises' and AP Academy's and college classes only just to not do any of the work cause I'm bored to death. I excel at math and my teacher knows it, however he deliberately doesn't pick me cause I know the answer and picks the kids who do nothing all class 😠.

However, I do plan on creating a school (although not my planned major) and have teachers who do advanced learning skills like this class is teaching.

1sashacat Yes ADHD is largely a profitable MYTH/ scam. As explained on CCHR - the Citizens Commission for Human Rights - website, many of the traits and behaviors of gifted children are the same as those that many claim are indicative of ADHD. Don't get scammed into taking poisonous drugs! There are plenty of things to do with such energy!
Same was the case with me, during my 1st/2nd years of med school,I thought I had ADHD,took an IQ test during the 3rd year to find out that I have an IQ score of 140+.

honestly, it all depends on how you live your life. I would say, get out of school and academia as soon as possible and figure shit out by yourself. you work differently than 99% of society. if you try to life live like everyone else and try to fitting in with society you will suffer more from being gifted than it will benefit you imho

When you have spent hours focusing on one topic in an array of fields of knowledge, you’ve never been able to understand others of your own age, been socially rejected because your concept of reality is far advanced beyond your age group, and these traits have been apparent since before pre-school, i would day some people have some justification to saying that there are some broad characteristics that may separate some kids from others..

Tori a lot of the characteristics overlap. You could be both. It's called twice exceptional or 2e. It's not uncommon to see gifted aspies.
