    Sam is the shit. Best cooking show there is. Better for regular people to learn from than Jacques Pepin. Better than Julia Child, Bobby Flay, Emeril, Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, anyone. This is why. He is the perfect blend of royalty and the common man. He is the perfect blend of Canadian and American. Possibly the greatest man to come out of the western hemisphere.

    I made this last week and craving it again. I had never see this video on it but basically did it the exact same way...only difference is I braised it in the same pan I browned them in, just dumped the liquid and added olive oil and butter. This time, I really want to bake some beer bread with it.

    Omg this is a abomination to our British bangers and mash😭😭😭😭
    Never ever ever boil bangers no no no.
    Fry your bangers in some oil, rosemary & garlic and butter.
    In a separate pan fry your red onions, add oil & butter, dash of sugar and salt, add lee Perins Worcester sauce & beef stock and simmer.
    Then add chives, butter, salt, black pepper to mash and beat it with a dash of milk or olive oil.
    That’s the posh way
    My way, bisto gravy granules😂😂👌

    British mash does seem a different animal from American-style mashed potatoes. The main difference seems that British mash takes waxier potatoes, resulting in a different texture, which one would naturally be inclined to leave more lumpy, less smooth.
    In the U.S. when you make mashed potatoes, it goes something like this: peel and cut up the fluffiest (least waxy) potatoes you can find (usually russet, or Idaho, potatoes), boil them in well-salted water for 15 to 20 minutes or until fork-tender, then, after draining off the water, proceed to "scorch" them, which means to stir the potato pieces rapidly in the pot over high heat to evaporate as much water as possible - being careful of course not to literally scorch, or burn, them.
    Next comes relentless richness: first, lots and lots of butter, mashed directly into the hot potato pieces, followed often by generous dollops of sour cream, followed by either whole milk or cream (perhaps infused with onion, garlic, bay leaf and white pepper corns) stirred in until desired consistency is achieved, usually meaning fluffy and able to sustain peaks but without ever becoming soupy.
    The seasoning of choice for American-style mashed potatoes is white pepper, ideally freshly ground directly into the potatoes - lots and lots of white pepper.
    Finally, the idea with American-style mashed potatoes is to whip them until they are - no, not lumpy or textured like British mash - but fluffy and smooth. If you've made your mashed potatoes right, you should be able to do with them what Richard Dreyfuss did in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind: build Devil's Tower on your dinner plate, complete with fork-etched striations.

    • @nick260682
      @nick260682 Před 3 lety +1

    • @nick260682
      @nick260682 Před 3 lety +3

      No, bangers are raw pork sausages.
      It's an English slang term for sausages. After the second world war there was quite severe food rationing in England, and butchers would bulk out their sausages with water to make more money from their limited resources. But because of the water, when they were cooked, they would "bang" when they kind of exploded in the pan. Hence bangers.

      John Lemons I’m english and idk man, We just don’t usually eat those super processed sausages over here, English sausages are generally chunkier meat with more texture so when you see it through the skin rather than being one colour you can see bits of lean and fat in the ground meat, often flavoured with herbs as well.

      Those sausages seemed to have the texture of spam. You would not find any sausages like that in the UK. UK sausages are simply ground pork and seasoning not that processed mess.

    The gravy looks great but really bangers are the WORST sausages ever along with English bacon and fish and chips

    I am sorry but I can’t get past you boiling anaemic “sausages” (they look so unnatural, do they even contain real meat?) - no British person ever would boil sausages
