Nice work! The last 4010 I worked on had some serious transport logic issues too. It took me a while to finally track the trouble down to bad circuit traces on the relay board that had corroded through. This one was a little newer than what you have here so I don’t know if you have the little logic relay board but it was located behind the cut off switch arm tucked up under some can capacitors (if you are facing the back of the machine with the cover off it would be on your left side below the take up reel motor). That board held relays K1, K5 and K8 and was labeled 48181-1, it had the three little pilot relays on it that latched the functions. Apparently the machine was stored in a damp basement for years and some of the copper traces on that board just evaporated. I tinned some fine gauge wire and repaired the traces, everything snapped back into action.

These old beasts can be a challenge to work on but I enjoy the process. Here is a link to the final (I hope) video on the Teac where I fix the fast tape movement latching solenoid. czcams.com/video/cEJv2x9zNSs/video.html

Cool. Labor of love for sure. I have a 2300 that I use to record rare Frank Zappa shows from online. I rarely use it though. I love the look of them. I do enjoy making my own personal favorites reelz of artists and like that you are not flipping a record every 20 mins. Thanks for sharing.

They are very cool pieces of vintage audio electronics technology. Although mine sounds great, I find that I use it mostly to digitize friends old tapes who no longer have a open reel player.

I picked up one of these in mint cosmetic condition with the original box, manulas, reel caps, and headphones for a few bucks. I changed all the suzuki caps and new belts, oiled all the moving parts, and it sounds really good.

Great video!! I have a 4010S that I have a problem with: when I hit play the capstan motor doesn't engage... the roller moves in position etc... everything but the motor itself! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

If the capstan isn't turning I would check the capstan belt. Check my earlier video on the belt replacement. Here is the link czcams.com/video/jKIufgWxEO0/video.html
