Great video! I have a quick question for you... Where did you order your belt kit from?
Same kind as mine its silver combo dvd player/video cassette recorder i have the original box and remote control.
Great little unit. I use it to watch both VHS tapes and DVD's
Is there something else you can use to clean the contact? As much as that stuff cost, might as well buy a new Blu-ray player.
Never mind, mine doesn't even have a contact thing.
That new one looks great. Well done. They are a nice size.
I agree, it does look good. It's probably the best looking one in my collection.
Thanks! I just scored a pair of Baby Advent II's at the recycle dump. They need new surrounds and your video helps.
Nice score! Good luck with the surround replacement. The Baby Advents are great sounding speakers for their size.
Where can I buy the oil?
That's an old video when I was still using Mobile 1 engine oil for lubrication. Today I would probably use 3in1 electric motor oil for that application. It's available in most hardware stores or online.
I tend to use the same thread to. While Fluke plastic is sturdy, I certainly do that for other repairs Walkman, radios,...
Looks like I know the details of your head better than the Dual turntable 😅 Thanks for the tutorial on relub and tonearm setup. I'll do it on mine soon. I suspect mine is pretty much jammed because of sticky grease, but I've got casing and plastic lid in ery good condition. BTW what's the speed measurement app please ?
Good luck with your restoration. The app is called RPM Speed and Wow
A tiny dab of metal polish on the contacts and gently buffed with a swab will make them look new. Then IPA and then D100 to prevent future corrosion. Congratulations on your farm of Fluke meters. 1 more and you can set idle current on 2 amps at once.
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give that a try. I have been a bit obsessed with collecting vintage Fluke multimeters lately. I have plenty now and probably should put them to work helping restore some old piece of vintage audio gear.
You should sell it to me!!!!
That one doesn't belong to me. I would have loved to keep it.
That song is really good, would it be possible to get a download of it? That’s something I’d love to listen to in my pass time, your brother was very talented!
Thanks for the comments. Unfortunately I don't think that single was ever released for purchase. The band made it as a promotion back in the early 1980's when they were trying to get a record deal. I have seen it on sale on Discogs, however none are available right now. Here is a link. www.discogs.com/release/12065894-The-Team-I-Dont-Wanna-Be-Alone-Tonight-Carrie-Ann My brother was very talented and was able to make a living in the music business. He played in Carol King's band for 20 years until he got to sick to tour. Here is a link to his memorial video. czcams.com/video/LjZs1W63IR4/video.html
@@mguess Neat, I’ll keep a lookout for any that go up for sale. I think a CZcams upload would be nice too tho since it’s currently not available anywhere on the internet. Without an archived upload, and given the limited lifespan of vinyls, the song could potentially become lost media forever.
Do you know if these are the same IMG woofers featured in the SS Sterling series? I bought a used pair and refoamed them. Turns out one woofer is blown after all that work and I'm in need of a replacement.
Sorry I do not know. I would call the guys at Simply Speakers. They have always been extremely helpful with speaker questions.
The two little cells are bias cells😮
Correct. I replaced all the bias cells with AA batteries.
Nice to see, thanks 👍

Platter absolutely stuck. Mines all good but needs new belt and I can’t get it off - I think the old belt might be spun around the spindle or something it won’t budge
Did you try rapping on the spindle with a small hammer while pulling up on the platter?
I really appreciate the ingenuity and skills that went into creating this impeccable work of art and engineering. What a fun vehicle to see the country in! Fabulous baby!🎉
Thanks for the comments. My Dad was quite proud of his creation. I'm glad that we got to make 1 last trip in the motorhome a few years before he passed away.
This was the first real hifi turntable ever made. Thorens and others copied AR's suspension designs. The AR was even used by record companies to give the go ahead on mass production of said records as I understand it.
I agree. It's an amazing and very simple little turntable.
No hole drilling or anything like that. It goes between the platter and the tonearm.
If you want a decent device that will not break the bank to auto lift the tonearm up at the end of the record buy The Q Up. I just installed it on my AR XA and it works great. Takes a little fiddling with the lift installing wise but once you get it adjusted it is wonderful not having to bolt to the turntable when the last song is over. Needles are expensive these days so The Q Up will save your stylus from wear. Especially if you were to fall asleep while listening.
Thanks for the tip. I actually have 5 other turntables connected to my system all of which have at least a tonearm lifter. I just use one of those if I'm feeling sleepy.
I have a 1209 that works ok but the Start/Stop switch doesnt work. It just spins and spins and spins. Wish you were located in my town, id take it to you for repair.
The cause of that issue could be a gummed up mechanism like mine had.
It appears to have a mechanical relay to switch heads for the reverse direction. If the relay is noisey, that could also be part of the problem. Rapidly switching direction might help.
Thanks for the comments. I did eventually find the cause of the intermittent noise. It turned out to be a bad resistor in the head amp circuit. Here is a link to the repair video. czcams.com/video/elbDR8WQNbw/video.html
hello. I'm hoping you can help me I'm having an issue finding a diode for my Harman Kardon SR900. The HK# from the Schematic is H41520419. It is in the output circuit after the phase transformers. I watched your video hoping you might mention them but you didn't. But I'm hoping that you could help me find a suitable replacement for it. Thank you in advance.
The parts list isn't much help. It just calls those a diode. That may mean that they are fairly generic and not a Zener. Are all of yours bad? If you have at least one good one you can measure the forward voltage drop to determine if it is a germanium or silicon diode.
After studying the schematic for a while I figured out that they are using the forward voltage drop of the diodes to bias the output transistors. It looks like the voltage drop is .3 volts indicating that the diodes are probably germanium. The current across the diodes should be about 75 ma. It looks like a 1N139 germanium diode should make a reasonable replacement. I would probably start with those which are still available and see if they work.
Hi Can you please recommend a good replacement for the rectifier diode (CR1) in the 667........I put in an overkill 1N5408 temporarily and my needle and everything started working again, I even calibrated it. I read somewhere the old one is a selenium diode, have no idea about it's specs other than (50 Ma) in the parts list.........Thanks for your help.
Yay! Glad to hear that the Eico is working again. I was a bit worried about the meter movement itself. Those are really hard to come by. Yes the 1N5408 is probably overkill but I wouldn't change it if it's working and calibrating properly. I was going to suggest a 1N914 which is a very cheap and common small signal switching diode. The parts list isn't very descriptive but I think the original diode was probably something similar to the 1N914. It's a silicon diode not selenium. Selenium diodes are the older technology used before the development of semiconductor devices. They are much larger and feature big square metal plates in their construction. I think the part that you used will work just fine and not cause any issues. Good luck and remember be careful with suspected shorted tubes, they are tube tester killers!
HELP!!! Hi I have been using mine for years. I have a really clean unit I got from my father. I just tested a 5U4 Rectifier tube that had a light show and blew a HT fuse in a fender guitar amp. So I tested it in my 667. It would make the transformer hum loud and it def. did not like this tube! the fuse blew in my 667 and after replacing fuse, my meter needle will not move past 5% on line adjust. I decided to take it apart and give it a look over and a really good service cleaning. I cleaned all of the pots and rotary switches and checked all of the resistors. while checking the transformer tap voltages all of the voltages were close and then the 10uf 150 cap exploded under the trim pot on the filament rotary switch side of the unit. I replaced it with a new nichicon 10uf 160 volt and the needle still won't move past 5% on line adjust. That rectifier fried something but I can't tell what it fried. I see a tiny clear diode or something I have no idea what it is or how to measure it. but you mentioned diodes and I would love it if you could walk me through identifying and checking them. Thanks for the videos. subscribed.
Wow! It sounds like that 5U4 may have been shorted internally. I just checked a known good 5U4 on my Eico 667 and it does make the transformer hum. Did you notice a short on the interelement leakage test. The "blown" electrolytic capacitor could have taken out the diode in the tube tester. Do you have the schematic diagram of the 667? If not I can send it to you. There are 2 solid state diodes in the tube tester. One is a small signal diode (the clear one). The other is a rectifier type. It should be larger and covered in black plastic. Does your multimeter have a diode test function? If so I'd recommend checking those two diodes first. Let me know the results.
I used to have this particular camcorder, the one with the Newvicon tube, sadly it broke on me while I was at my uncle's kid's birthday and Halloween party back in October, and I found out that it was a bad lubricant that dried up, and I later replaced it with the Magnavox Movie Maker from 1987, the CCD image sensor camera that made famous for SkyCorp fake ads.
I'm surprised that mine is still working. However I don't use it anymore. The "camcorder" that everyone caries around in their smartphones creates far superior videos.
I don't use my smartphone that much for videos anymore, it was now connected to my rotary phone and Cell2Jack because of social media detoxing, I'm just pretty much stuck with the camcorder thing for video.
what is the name of the glue you used?
I used the MI-3035 speaker adhesive from Simply Speakers.
I had a pair of Carvins back in the day that I used for vocals at band practice and they sounded great
Thanks for the comment. The Carvins also sound great in my garage playing full range stereo music from my receiver. Probably overkill, but they sound really good when you turn up the volume.

@@mguess is this fluke25 still wort it?..sir
Yes the Fluke 25 is worth getting if you can get one at a reasonable price. However the Fluke 27 has more features and you can usually get one for about the same price. They are both very rugged, waterproof, drop-proof and accurate multimeters.
Nice job! Just wondering if the Shure V15 is a bit of a mismatch for that tonearm? The V15 was a top of the range high-compliance cartridge usually mated to a low mass tonearm like the SME 3009 arm back in the 70s.
Thanks for the comments. You are probably right about the V15, it has a very light tracking force. I've done some cartridge swapping since that video. I moved the Sure V15 series 3 over to my AR XA turntable. The Dual 1209 currently has a relatively modern Audio-Technica AT120eb cartridge. I also have a Sure V15 series 2 on my Thorens TD125 with a Rabco SL-8E liner tracking tonearm. I believe that is the original cartridge from about 1968. Unfortunately I don't have any nice SME tonearms. Maybe someday.
Good job :-) I am a big fan of Electrovoice you did a very good job of doing the surrounds , I am the Speaker Doctor of Canada awesome job , i built a pair of Aristocrats bye hand also a set of Sentry 2 bye Electrovoice and they run the EV 12 TRXB 16 ohm drivers from 1955 they still run to this day .
Thanks for the comments. That was a fun project. It was my first time re-foaming passive radiators.
I bought one in 75 sold it for the convenience of a dual. Still have the dual but bought another AR xa to use instead.
I'm glad to hear that you got an AR XA again. It's a great and simple little turntable. I'm also a big fan of Duals.
Don’t give these speakers crap. I’ve heard them in real life and they sound amazing.
I agree, they sound great!. I have them installed in my oversized garage, the only room large enough to accommodate them.
@@mguess nice. I’ve seen them at the rocky top mountain coaster in pigeon forge Tennessee.
The reason your motor ran backwards is the brushes are designed to cross each other and contact the opposite side of the shaft. You fold them almost all the way and then insert the shaft and the magnet and let them spring back to contact the shaft.
Thanks for the comment. I figured that I messed up the brushes when re-assembling the motor. I did the quick and dirty fix by swapping the wires. Eventually I'll have to go back and properly fix the motor.
Thank you for making this really helpful video. 👍👍👍 I acquired an Eico 667 TT some years ago and was looking at it recently. I found it in a second hand store and paid $20 and change for it. The power cord is cut and twisted together, so I need to replace or repair the cord before I can do anything. I bought an owner's manual with a bunch of other tech documents to work on it in the future after I move out of my current house. Did you know that there is an Eico 615 Tube Adapter for testing the older tubes with the Eico 667? If you get one of those adapters or build one, you shouldn't have a need for the Eico 666 TT.
Thanks for the comments. I didn't know about the 615. Cool device, I'll have to keep an eye for one. However since I already have both testers I really don't need the adapter but it would be nice to have.
@@mguess Sure, you bet. I'm looking for the 615 adapter as well. A fellow used to build aftermarket adapters, but he doesn't appear to be doing it anymore. The 615 comes up on eBay every now and then, but people have put out instructions on the internet on how to build one yourself. If you could make a video on how to build one, it would be appreciated by many people (especially me) I'm sure. Anyway, it's just a thought.
You must have to lean into the pad pretty good Iam thinking. I tried this on my cover and its still very hazy. Never had deep scratches or gouges but just very hazy. Tried this step by step and it cam out not good. Very hazy still and definitly not like new. In you opinion do you think I should try a full application from start to finish? Tried just mutiple polishing attempts and still the same result.
If it's just hazy you may need to use a finer grit polish. I like to use the Novus products for cleaning up light scratches. It comes in three different grits, #1, #2, and #3. I tend to use #2 the most.
Thanks for this video sir. 1 for sale on CL and did not know that this was a decent piece of equipment (4 gang), could not believe all those solder cracks, their power switches are always problems, but poor design all that stress on those 6 solder joints.
Thanks for the comments. Maybe not the best design but an easy fix.
Awesome job! I am hoping to do this exact repair for some Bose 901 drivers, and will be giving the MI-3035 a try. I appreciate you and hope all is well!
Check out Simply Speakers video on re-foaming the Bose 901 drivers. Good luck with your speaker restorations.
I have a dual amp treble & bass found in Hammond’s earlier models. Treble is type JR 1A and bass is type K. This unit came with a reverb tank. I was wondering if it was possible or rather worth converting these to a stereo amp. I mean they look pretty dang cool.
I'm not really familiar with the Hammond amps. You would probably need to find a schematic for the amp to see if you can modify it for stereo. The Conn amp was fairly easy to modify.
@@mguess I have a schematic. It actually came out of an old Tone Cabinet Model H-40. I am just getting into this stuff. I converted a Magnavox 9302 amp. This one seems a little intimidating. Do you do custom work?
I'd be glad to help as much as I can. Would you be able to forward the schematic to me at mguessva@gmail.com.
I picked up one of these in mint cosmetic condition with the original box, manulas, reel caps, and headphones for a few bucks. I changed all the suzuki caps and new belts, oiled all the moving parts, and it sounds really good.
Congratulations! Great piece of vintage audio.
Hint: Take a bottle of clear nail polish and smoothly wipe it on the motor pulley as it spins. Let it dry thoroughly. Then, reinstall the belt and check the speed again. This thin layer of polish often restores the worn amount on the pulley. I have fixed several worn pulleys using this method, and it lasted for as long as I had the table, often a couple of years or so.
Thanks for the comment and I agree with you. In fact I performed this procedure on this turntable about a year ago. It worked great. Here is a link to the video. czcams.com/video/lz6P7BCQZpo/video.html
5:25 always start with the least aggressive solvent. I would use acetone last. IPA usually takes off marker ink without damaging anything. Might take a little more scrubbing, but it works most of the time. Then I'd use denatured alcohol, then acetone. Sometimes even soap and water takes care of it! I never thought that a dimmed LCD might be due to poor connection through the display and zebra strip.
Thanks for the comments. I tried detergent and I think I tried IPA first. I didn't try denatured alcohol but I'll remember that for next time.
I'm looking at purchasing a Dual CS552 from the original owner for$100. What do you think?
I wasn't able to find a reference to a CS552. Could it be a CS522? Anyway, it's hard to determine the value of a vintage turntable without inspecting it. If the turntable is in good shape and been recently serviced, that price would be very good. If the turntable is not in good shape and been sitting in a closet for 30 years, that price may be a bit high.
@@mguess Typo Was half asleep when asked. It is a cs 522. It looks mint but I have to go see it
How many watts should the 1 meg ohm and the 20 meg ohm resistors be for the calibration? Just curious as I'm attempting to calibrate my own.
I think I used 1/8th or 1/4 watt resistors which worked fine. Good luck with your tube tester calibration
Thank you for the video "flash back" Fluke meteres are the bees knees. I though my 77 purchased new in late the 80's was dated. I stand corrected. I don't even recall ether of the models you have. By the way, its internals are top notch and life affirming. Mine has been reliable all these years and it's my go-to-meter to this day. I call it a cradle to grave meter... Yeah, I didn't think that was to catchy ether. pssst; It's even survived a few years with pennies as fuse stand-ins But don't tell anybody I said that. Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd House On the Left.
Thanks for the comments. That's always my favorite part of producing videos is hearing about other peoples experiences with the subject of the video. You've got me beat on early Fluke purchasing. I didn't but my first until about 10 years ago, a 87V, very pricey! Then I discovered vintage used Flukes on eBay. They are fun to collect and just as accurate as the new ones once you get them cleaned up and repaired. Did you see the video on the 8022A. That's the oldest in the collection. I will check the link for the 8022. Those classic side-buttons are to die for. I do love the classics. Thanks for your reply. Cheers.
Can you help me troubleshoot a 535a?
Possibly. What's wrong with it?
These were wonderful turntables.
Yes, very nice. I generally prefer the older turntables with AC motors but the HK is a very nice turntable.
I honestly expected the Thorens to win this contest being that it sports a heavy 6.5 lb platter, excellent belt drive motor and... the higher price & quality compared to the others. The AR and 1019 really surprised me with their .06% score given the AR's lighter platter and the Dual's idler drive. Light platters in general don't offer as much fly wheel effect and so their speed is not as steady but the AR is clearly an exception.
Thanks for commenting. I was a bit surprised by the results also but the test wasn't very scientific. I'm not sure how accurate the cell phone WOW test is. The results can easily be inaccurate unless you get the phone perfectly balanced on the turntable.
Just picked up a pair of epi m90 at a local goodwill. Woofer and tweeters surprisingly looked to be in great condition could’ve been redone cause everything from those to the baffle, grill cloths, and cabinet look to be in fantastic condition. 20 bucks! I saw them early in the day and although I wanted them I passed it wasn’t until a couple hours later I couldn’t resist the urge of “what if someone else gets to listen to them instead” and went back to find them still there. People at the goodwills nearby will tend to only grab new speakers and older speakers regardless of how good they are go unnoticed most of the time. PS I passed the first time because just a couple days before I had bought a sansui 221 and a pair of mirage om 10s at another goodwill lol.
Great find. The EPI Model 100/90's sound really good for their size,
