I switched from being raw for over 1 year back to eating cooked food. I did not have any real discomfort but eventually I started eating lots of cooked foods. Now I am back at being raw for about a year and I still miss cooked food. I have been vegan for 11 years.

I’ve been on and off raw for over 7 years. Many times raw for days or weeks, several times for months. I was raw this last time around for about 3 months and decided to do a “cooked food experiment”. Intended to have some control going into it but totally lost it and just started eating whatever as long as it was Vegan.
I’m now having very simple, low heat cooked foods, not very much seasoning, low fat and still mostly fruit and I feel pretty good. Whereas I had this excess of energy, almost to the point I couldn’t sleep some nights, I have a more sustainable and grounded energy.
However, I’m making the transition back to fully raw and I want to allow myself to fluctuate between intentional high raw vegan and fully raw over the years and just see what works the best. I’m no longer stuck in the dogma that I need to be 100% raw and that feels good.

Hi John, long time subscriber to the GYG channel and just found this one. Really appreciate your honesty on science and personal choices. Not just that you're being honest about it, but also covering both aspects in detail. Hard to find this kind of "anti-dogmatic" view these days where everything seems rather polarized. Thanks again, may God bless you and your health.

    It's very informative, thank you!
And, since you have been worried about your microbiome for quite some time now, here's some science info of late ( pls always consult your health care provider on this and everything else):
    1) 'in humans, low intake of saturated fats is associated with increased /gut/ microbial diversity , independent of fiber intake' (!)
    2) in animals, increased fat intake leads to more Firmicutes and less Bacteroidetes in the gut (Lactobacilli are part of the Firmicutes family).
Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes are the 2 dominant kinds of bacteria in the human gut.
In healthy individuals, the ratio of F:B is 12:620, and an increased ratio is associated with obesity, while the decreased ratio is associated with IBD.
Bacteroidetes are Gram- negative (meaning they have a cell-membrane that releases strong toxins when destroyed by the immune system).
Bacteroidetes include Bacteroides as a subspecies.
The 2 most dominant Bacteroides in the gut are B. fragilis and B. thetaiotaomicron.
Their proteomes suggest high capacity to feed on oligo- and/or polysaccharides.
Both are considered commensals/part of the regular gut flora/ but can and do become pathogens and can attack the mucin and the epithelium of the gut.
And so, my take here is that too much fiber (e.g. and esp. skins of legumes & nuts as well as crude raw veg fiber) in the diet of lean, long-term, low-fat vegans, is not really that helpful as it might shift the F:B ratio undesirably towards B and cause a lack of F like Lactobacilli. Reducing fiber intake and adding some unsaturated- fat foods (seeds/nuts/avos) could possibly correct this ratio back to normal.

For the first question: soaking, sprouting or grinding all helps. Which is best depends on the seed, but honestly whatever is the most comfortable way is almost always good enough. No need to get worked up over the small details as some people do, the positives will always be there.
But if anyone really wants to go into detail, there are studies people can find for themselves. I found them on flax seeds, and there's others too. But some may be paywalled or hard to find .

Your phobia around cooked foods is concerning and gives veganism a bad name. You say ""most cooked foods are quite toxic, they're quite bad... They've been made in a factory." Please cite one reputable study that confirms this. How are roasted sweet potato, steamed carrots, roasted squash, or cooked beans "toxic"?
It's one thing to be dogmatic, but another to be misguided. This is not a form of veganism--it is disordered eating.
    Please prove me wrong.

I believe his we being speaks for its self after many years of icing this lifestyle! Personally I use my critical thinking to make my decision and don’t just follow blindly. That said I also have no faith in scientific research as it is most always flawed, if one understands the laws of energy.

Wrong 😊 Humans never crave almost all the greens you have programed yourself and influenced others to think as food. We are frugivores and your form of veganism is just super illogical 😊
