    Dude the Beastie Boys ARE Hip Hop, literally in the dictionary next to the word Hip Hop there should be a pic of them. Beastie Boys started in 1978 with Mike D as a punk rock band, MCA and Ad Rock joined in 1983 and changed the group to hip hop. Think about that 1983 literally helped create hip hop pretty much generation 1.5. One of the most influential hip hop groups ever. So what ever they do is literally hip hop.

    The "Woo-hah, got them all in check" sample was originally from Sugarhill Gang - 8th Wonder. The Beasties did sample it before Busta, though. The whole Paul's Boutique record was absolutely littered with samples. The Dust Brothers produced the album, and the Beastie Boys learned a lot from them, which they used on subsequent albums as they got more active in making their own beats, combining sample layering with playing their own instruments.

    • @jbowen791

      Because of the outrageous amount of samples on Paul's Boutique, it is widely regarded as "The potentially most expensive album to make if it were made today."

    • @Swenglish
      @Swenglish Před rokem +1

      @@jbowen791 Yeah, that tracks. Which is sad. On principle, it should be considered fair use as long as the samples are used transformatively, but the justice system looks down on the artform and doesn't get that the point isn't to pass off someone else's work as ones own, but to play the music recordings themselves as strings on a single instrument in a meta-musical expression.

    When the Beasties are wearing 70s style, really funky outfits... Its because they were renting a house in LA at the time that belonged to a famous couple (the Grasshoffs. Film director and actress). They had this door with a padlock on it. After a while the BBoys got curious and broke it open. They found a gold mine of 70s shit. Fur coats. Pimp hats. Platform shoes. Lol. So the BBoys messed around with that wardrobe in videos like Shake you Rump and Hey Ladies (big time 70s wardrobe in this video 😆).
    They're just goofin around trying to make each other laugh most of the time. Best friends since early teens.

    Cool channel man. I just watched all of your Beastie Boys reactions up to this point. Kudos for being real. Professor Booty was an odd choice for an introduction so I'm not surprised it didn't grab you. Sabotage is another story as it's one of my favorites lol. But it's also a pretty jarring shift from Professor Booty lol, so yeah. The Beastie Boys are a weird bag. Their music is kind of all over the place and there's always a fun and goofy element to it. They rocked hard but didn't take themselves too seriously, so I can see why a new listener might be confused. They also cover a lot of different ground so it's hard to pin down what their "sound" actually is until you've heard a few songs. I'm glad you stuck with them because as you see now, the more songs you hear, the more you'll "get" them, and the more you appreciate them.
    I recommend "Ch-Ch-Check It Out". I'm surprised more people aren't asking for that one.
    I also challenge you to go back and re-listen to Sabotage after you've heard maybe a dozen songs or so. I wonder if you'll feel differently about it once you've really gotten a feel for their vibe.

    Been waiting to see you react to this song and you didn't disappoint man! You're channel is gonna be on my top reators from now on. Like I said before this is my favorite track from them, the part with the cat on the turn tables always gets me. 😂
    If you can, react to a guy named Chris LeDoux and his songs "Hooked on an 8 second ride" and "This cowboy's hat", I know it's completely twist from hip hop but I think you'd enjoy diving into the lyrics. Just a little background information about Chris and why I chose him. Chris LeDoux started off as a bronc rider and became an NFR rodeo champ in the late 70's. He started writing songs about rodeo and his experiences while on the road and has become an icon in the rodeo community. As a bull rider his music always inspires me to keep riding and perfectly reflects the love for the sport and the thrill of being a part of it. One again, great job man!
