Hi Peter, what a nice video. It was very nice to meet you and be in your video. It gave me lots of energy. I also get nice reactions to our collaboration in my video about the organization of a workshop. So, I really hope we can find some creative ideas to do this again. All the best, and we keep in touch! Dennis, Hooked on Wood
Hi Dennis, and thanks! It was an absolute pleasure to have you in the 10MinuteWorkshop - virtually, at least - and I'd love to continue the conversation whenever we can. All best for now, and we'll catch up soon. 👍Peter
Respect to the pair of you. Taking advice from each other and passing that on to us viewers. We couldn’t ask for more🙌
Thank you!
Hey : thanks to both of you. I have just received my unit (thanks for the discount code Dennis!). Resources can be found at www.atomstack3d.com/atomstacka5 including common materials settings ('datasheet') and a User manual to complement the build booklet.
Thanks to both Peter and Dennis for the inspiration :)
Great video...many thanks! I am a follower of both Peter and Dennis...great advice and very informative!
Dennis is a great resource for plans, ideas, and his China Tools reviews.
2 of my favorite CZcamsrs collaborating on a video from different parts of the world. Great stuff and thanks to both of you for both of your informative and well managed channels,
Great to see two of my favourite content creators in the same video! Dennis does awesome reviews of tools I can actually afford to buy, and Peter shows me what I can make if I learn to use them! Brilliant!
Thank you! 🙌👍👍
I have some photography, motorcycle and airplane youtubers I watch and it's always extra special when they collaborate with each other. It seems to bring out a bit more out of each. Well done!
There seems to be a model that can "print" on round things like stainless steel coffee mugs. So one is not limited to flat surfaces. Amazing stuff.
Thanks! Yes, there are models that have a 'rotisserie' dingus that lets you print/engrave on the round - but not at this price point! 👍
A small air assist (something like a pond air pump) will improve cutting performance and help keep the optics clean. You definitely want extraction as well, you can generate some fairly nasty fumes laser cutting.
Exactly how appreciative you are of Dennis helping and his sharing of info and time, We feel the same about your videos and response to our comments. Thanks as always Peter.
Thank you! 👍
Hi Peter. Great to see Denis helping out with questions. I follow both of you as you both give excellent advice and recommendations. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Gaz! Yes, it was a pleasure to chat with Dennis. I hope we can do it again before too long. 👍👍
Agree with Dennis about the enclosure for both the extraction and reducing the chance of any laser light reaching your eyes. I use a class 4 laser in work and we follow strict risk assessments for its use, never in the room when it is on, trip switches on the doors to close off the shutter if someone goes in etc. May even be worth writing a risk assessment, user method for yourself to reduce the chance of accidents. The mk1 eyeball is great but there is not a replacement yet 😮
Great video, follow you and Dennis. Love his Dutch accent, as spent a lot of time in the Netherland. His workshop is a work of art.
Look forward to the return of Maker Central, still follow Andy Mac.
Thanks! Yes, Dennis’ workshop is cleaner than my kitchen! 🤷♂️
Well spotted with Dennis' channel. I like hooked on wood too.
Awesome video Peter, was great seeing Dennis on your channel.
Thank you! It was a pleasure to have Dennis here and I enjoyed our chat. Super-useful too! 🙌👍👍
Nice video Pete and good to see Dennis involved he's got some amazing bench build videos. Once I've had a resort out of the shop I think I'll be getting one of these lazers cheers Peter 🍻
Cheers Dan! 👍
My laser just arrived today which I ordered almost immediately after watching your video. Starting testing and assembly soon. Looking forward to a follow up video about yours Peter.
Thanks Mark! Yes, just clearing some space before I can do the follow-up! 😂👍👍
I’d love to see what can, and cannot be done with this laser. Also, branding iron use and types would be nice. Thanks for introducing us to your Friend. I’ll be watching him now. Thanks!
Thanks! 👍👍
Thanks for a great video Peter, reallly interesting, also nice to see collaboration.
Having used large laser cutter/engravers when I worked at uni extraction is a must.
Keeping the laser lens/ head clean is necessary as the smoke etc soon covers them, leading to below par results.
Good to know, thanks Rob! 👍
Great video and love the inclusion of Dennis!
🤷♂️
Double impact, Peter. Just saw you on Dennis's channel, and now the other way around on this video. Very interesting stuff this Laser! 😁👍
Thanks! 👍
Thanks Peter and Dennis. I have used Banggood for items thanks to your mate over on Bish Bash Bosch. Also seen a few videos from Dennis’s China tools series. They have some good kit especially marking tools. Last winter I bought a diesel heater for the garage (workshop) too.
I have domino’s because of you, now I want a laser…..
Thanks Doug! 👍
A look at your branding setup would be interesting. I'm going over to have a look at Dennis' channel. I didn't realize these starter lasers were so cheap.
Yes, they're quite outstanding value - I wasn't expecting ,much for the money tbh, but very impressed so far. 👍
I have been on the same journey Peter. Saw Denis’ video , ordered and it arrived a couple of weeks ago. As a PC user I have been using Laser GRBL. Lots of experimenting to do on number of lines per mm and laser speed but getting there! Thanks for your video!
Cheers Stuart! Yes, previous experience on other platforms help get a leg up the learning curve, but it's still a learning curve! 👍
Other 'Tubers make sample test squares in a matrix (per material) covering the range of speeds / power / passes and you can download a leaflet from www.atomstack3d.com/atomstacka5 covering starter settings for some basic materials. Enjoy!!
You may find adding endstops fairly simple if the board has headers for them (may also require fiddling with the firmware), they literally are little more than some microswitches.
Excellent and the collaboration with HOW worked very well.😀👍
Thanks Norman! 👍👍
Definitely would like to hear about branding with heat, and that slightly orthogonal question of how to make the branding iron
Thanks! I buy my brands and irons, not sure how you'd go about making one as it demands precision. I get mine from Mike at outpostworkshup.co.uk - great quality and service, mention my name if you contact him and he'll look after you. 👍
2 you tube channels complimenting each other great stuff cheers Peter 👍🍺
Thanks Mark!👍
Great video as usual. Enjoyed the collaboration and technical work involved in screening your call.
Would be great to see the branding tools also please.
I recently bought it. apparently it has dropped in price as i paid only 185 Euro for it. Very easy to put together. Took me 40 minutes. All in all very happy with it. But yes i think i need to build it into an enclosure
Lightburn is the master of laser engraving software - easily worth the cost
Burning in a 10mm grid on the baseplate might be a good idea as well. Makes placement of your workpiece a bit easier if it liga’s up with the software.
See Dennis's laser review - that's exactly what he did - and another Tuber in USA (Ding??) has uploaded an svg file for just such a matrix 41 x 40cm :)
Interesting video and subject. Thank you.
Thanks Frits! 👍
A full enclosure makes for best 100% extraction.
A couple of computer fans is all you need, one pulling air in and one pushing it out through your vent pipe.
Green or orange Plexi glass full length as the lid, or part of the lid, makes it easier to keep an eye on the progress of the work.
Congrats on the new addition.👍🏽
Cheers Bill! 👍👍
all we need now is for Peter or Dennis to make one and save us lazy buggers all the time & effort :D. Thinking about it, I've got some 18mm ply . . . .
Hi Peter, nice video. For a darker result on birch ply try de-focussing by 3 or 4mm - counter-intuitive i know but it seems to work. Of course there is a slight compromise with sharpness of edges. Just going to higher power seems to vaporise the wood rather than char it - and charring is what you want for a dark mark.
A sample square of ply with strips engraved at various powers/speeds/focus distances makes a useful reference piece.
As a previous commenter has said, vector line engraving can be quicker - you can also experiment with de-focussing on that to get a wider line (and increase power to compensate for extra distance).
Do rig up some extraction - there is a surpirising amount of nasty sticky dust that gets blasted off the surface of the wood, you don't want to be breathing that in... and it will build up on the components of the machine too (but can be cleaned with warm water and a bit of citrous-based cleaning fluid).
Have fun though! All best, Mat.
Thanks! Yes, lots more experimentation to be done - wouldn’t have occurred to me to refocus the laser though, thanks for the tip - I’ll try that out. 👍👍
Another excellent video. I got my laser engraver a couple of years ago (in tech terms, it’s probably now obsolete. Mine is a Neje 7W Master; also from Banggood. Absolutely no idea how mine compares to yours except that the Neje has a maximum engraving area of 150mm square. Not that I have ever found that restricting as I also bought mine principally for engraving my branding on leather and timber. I use the proprietary Neje software but the Facebook forum has lots of people recommending Lightburn.
The speed and laser intensity seems more of an art than a skill. Obviously, you can always repeat an engraving (providing you don’t move the substrate in the meantime - but you can’t un-burn a piece of wood or leather. I have used mine to cut leather and thin plywood - rather like a crude CNC. It’s okay but, again, there is a balance between speed/intensity/burning and cutting. No doubt that if I spent a whole day on nothing else, I would have most things figured out - but never get that luxury.
For me - now a 90% hobby cabinet maker with only a few commissions, it’s a nice-to-have. I do like having every piece that I make to have a brief description of what the timber or leather is; who made it and when. Plus, where appropriate, a personalised message to the person I am giving the piece to. So, in decades to come, somebody just look at the engraving and ask their parent about the old bodger who nailed this together.
You are much more of a tech person than I will ever be. On the other hand, almost everything timber that I make is hardwood, although I use MRMDF as a substrate and glue my own cut veneer to the surface where it is appropriate. That finished product looks just as good as solid hardwood; is much more stable and should be far better for the environment. That is more than a slight knock on Oak Furnitureland.
Thank you! I'm still at the foothills of the whole laser 'thing' but Dennis has weeks more experience than I do! 😂 👍
Thank you Peter ( and Dennis) for another excellent video. I had already seen the one on the Hookedon Wood channel. However, following your link to Banggood the 30w model is marked as not available for shipping to UK whilst the larger 40w model is available- strange !
Thanks John! That’s odd! The 40w model was introduced after I’d bought the 30w, so perhaps they’re keeping remaining stock of the 30w for domestic sales?? 🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks Peter. since writing, I accessed the site directly rather than through your link and it seems to be available for the UK !!!
I just took a look, and the site via my link defaults to shipping from "CZ" - if you switch that to "CN" it changes to ship to the UK. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop BREXIT eh? :) Euro's hate us now . . .
Love the video as usual. Do you think it would cut perspex? Remember seeing this with other lasers and the edge is absolutely perfect! But if you try, you must take extreme care - I believe the fumes are extremely toxic.
Thanks! I believe it will, but you need to take many passes to avoid heat distortion around the edges. I'll know more when I've used it more, of course. 👍
Very interesting video and interacting with Dennis. I followed the link to his channel. There's a lot of interesting things over there.
Some years ago, I bought some smaller items at BangGood. First two deliveries without problems. Third delivery didn't not arrive. After reclamation I received apologies and
my money back. But the fourth delivery failed again. No apologies that time, and no money back. Since that time I didn't buy anything from them anymore, although they
have very interesting products for sale.
If I'd ever buy a laser engraver, it should be much smaller. The branding iron system is also very interesting. Far less versatile but very fast. I definitely would like to see a video about that as well.
Thanks Hans. Yes, this is only my second purchase from banggood - we’ll see if there’s a third! 👍👍
Apart from the health benefits, extraction clears the smoke from the path of the laser and prevents it from forming a buildup on the lens, improving the performance and longevity of your laser. It’s also worth considering adding air assist (a small air blower aimed at the focal point) which helps clear the kerf of debris, allowing deeper cuts.
I also found that the z-axis mechanism is far too wobbly. I have better results by keeping it fully up and raising the work piece to the laser instead.
I’m far from an expert, but this is what I have learned in the few weeks since I too saw Dennis’s video and bought one! (I got the 40W, because bigger is better, right?)
Thanks! Yes, if I'd known about the 40w I would have had that, too! 😂 👍
Looking at the product page at Banggood it seems that the cooling fan for the laser also already handles clearing smoke from the laser path.
Excellent presentation and the connection with Hooked on Wood added interest.
The laser was demonstrated doing a raster scan. Does it also follow a vector graphic? I imagine being GRBL driven that it should. For cutting out labels/stickers I would think that vector driven would be essential to obtain good edges.
Also will it cut through thin wood?
This is what I was wondering, although from a speed perspective rather than edge alignment as you say. I imagine that following a path for the pie chart section of your logo would be far quicker and more accurate than line by line raster, then raster the text
I believe so, but you've seen 100% of my experience with the laser; there'll be more to follow in due course as I use it more, but make no mistake, I'm approaching the path to the foothills that lead to the nursery slopes - there's a long way to go yet. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop oh definitely, just food for thought!
Great video Peter and Dennis, very interesting. I'm just wondering whether a laser will fit into my 'tardis' of a garage. Somehow I doubt it unfortunately.
Thanks David. It has a surprisingly small footprint, and is very lightweight, so easy to move around. Not sure if that helps or not, lol! 😂👍
I will have to get back to you on how but you actually can install the program and use it without having a laser hooked up to it. I don't remeber what I selected. Have to go back and do it again. The licesnse for Lightburn allows two computer installs for one key. I have it on a PC upstairs where I design and send it VIA the network to the PC that runs the laser in the garage.
Enjoyed this video Peter with the collaboration between you and Dennis. Really impressive out of the box so to speak.
As a CNC layman how did you import/program your logo into laser. Maybe a future video Peter, this is interesting. Tony
Thanks Tony. Yes, there'll be more on the usage as I get a bit more into it. Import was just a question of opening up an existing file of an appropriate type. 👍
Great overview video Peter and not a bad price for getting started. My recent investment for burning wood has been the Aldi Ferrex Pyrography Set for £7.99 which I’ll be testing out over the weekend. Worth a punt 😂.
Thanks! 👍
A couple of vents in the enclosure should be enough to combat heat buildup, the LEV fan will create a negative pressure within the enclosure which will naturally draw fresh air into the enclosure
Thanks! 👍
I wonder what kind of laser it is. It says 5 or 6 watts of optical laser power, can a simple modern diode laser achieve that or is it a more complex structure? But anyway that is indeed quite powerful and even a diffuse reflection (e.g. from a matte wood surface) can damage an unprotected eye.
Been eyeing one of these and I think will be asking Santa for one next year or maybe a birthday gift
Hi Peter. a very interesting video thanks. I've gone ahead and purchased one too and will try to forget about it for the next 3 weeks! Any follow up thoughts from you after the last 3 months of use?
I've barely used it tbh as I went straight into a workshop makeover that's ongoing, but it's a nice comnpact machine that works well, and I'm keen to get back to it. 👍
Great video as always, I would be interested to know if it could cut 3 mm acrylic.
I believe it will, but you need to take many passes to avoid heat distortion around the edges. I'll know more when I've used it more. 👍
Regarding extraction, I'm a now happily retired electrical engineering contractor, on a ventilation extraction course many years ago (pertaining particularly to bathroom ventilation) I remember (and I stand to be corrected) the lecturer stating that for every 90 degree bend (or an accumulation of bends adding up to 90 degrees, eg two 45 degree bends equals one 90 degree bend) there was a reduction of 50% air flow, so for example a fan rated at 100 cubic feet per minute (or the metric equivalent) running through ducting with two 90 degree bends (or an accumulation adding up to two 90 degree bends) would work out at 100 cfm minus 50% for bend one = 50 cfm, the second 90 degree bend a further reduction of 50% (50 cfm minus a further 50%) which equates to the 100 cfm fan now only extracting 25 cfm, plus some losses even on straight runs, worth bearing in mind, hope I've explained that clearly.
Perfectly, thanks! 👍
Search your favorite Chinese website for "fume extractor laser cutter". Plenty of ready made options should the others not work.
hi
i might be wrong but i think the duet controller on you ooznest workbee is so you can use a laser engraver.
i think anyway or shouldn't be hard to do.
Yes, but I wanted a stand-alone unit as a laser, not to tie up the CNC. 👍
Interesting machine. That said, I have no more room in my shed to fit something like that, what with 2 lathes, a drill press and a milling machine.
exactly this! I wished I hadn't watched this now. But a very good informative video with excellent collaboration
between makers
now you're just showing off :D
Hi Peter,
I have my eye on a Diode CNC for my CAD CAM 4 Woodworkers channel.
How are you getting on with this one, did it turn out to be a good purchase ?
Hi Andy. Beyond this review I’ve barely touched it tbh - I was making it a permanent home that then grew into a full-blown workshop makeover! But yes, it was working great; inevitably there’s a better model been released - the X7 Pro I think - that I’m supposed to be getting my hands on, but hasn’t materialised as yet. Solid little machines, though not the speediest or most powerful. 👍👍
Hi Peter I love watching Dennis and his China tool series also his builds are great. Can you tell me how easy it is to follow the lightburn instructions as I'm thinking of getting one of these and using lightburn to help with personalising my DIY builds.
Cheers
James
Thanks James! Lightburn is very straightforward to use, especially if you have any prior experience with drawing software. Good tutorials too! 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop lovely thank you Peter.
I have thought about getting a branding iron for my woodturning , so i can brand them instead of a sticker
I have both my brand and this A5 laser. The brand is great for odd-shaped 3D objects - or for when you forgot to plan ahead and laser it before you built it :D
Mrs 10 mins: What you doing?
Peter: Using my mouse to get a Mac to talk to a gerbil…..
Mrs 10 mins: Eye roll
Made me laugh, could see my misses doing the same thing
😂😂
Hey Peter, great video. Will you do any more updates? I have ordered one of these as well, so really interested in how this works out for you!
Thanks! And yes, I’ll definitely be paying this another visit as the journey progresses. 👍👍
Just a quick off the top of my head thought... Bathroom axial in line fan and some suitable flexible extract hose?
Not sure if it would need to be FR. Maybe the flexible duct you would use with the extract fan may be suitable. You are not creating a commercial fume/smoke extract system just something for personal use.
As usual, great Video and Denis is a great chap.
Yes, that was my plan - just wasn't sure it it would need a hood, or could just follow the laser head. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I’d personally do a hood. Mounting the extract on the cross rail close to the laser head might put unnecessary loads on the stepper motors and toothed belts. A hood made from suitably tinted Perspex held together with some Rare Earth magnets would make it a space saving item too. Collapsible when not in use.
See you on Hooked On Wood, and then see a new video from you. Good morning.
Morning, and welcome! 👍
It's an expensive hobby this channel of yours..... Track Saw, Peanut Jig Mini and now a laser engraver. That said, I've made great use of the first two and have been making routed signs for a friend who owns a campsite so suspect the 'new toy' will earn its keep. Great to see you collaborating with Dennis, I've been watching his China Tools series for a which and that has cost me money too! Keep up the great work, it's good to see that list of supporters growing week-by-week.
Thanks Greg! Looking on the bright side, I'm almost always buying at the chap end of the toy shop - sorry, tool shop! 😂 Good to hear you're already getting use out of the machine too! 👍
Hi Peter...have you tested it on engraving metal?...am really looking into buying a diode laser that can engrave metal. Great videos, and thank you from Tucson, Arizona.
Thanks! No, I'm afraid I haven't; I think Denis at @hookedonwood did when he tested his. 👍
Hi Peter, great video. I would really be interested in a video about how you got your branding iron made. I assume there is an online service somewhere where you can send a drawing and some money and they send you back a branding iron.
Thanks! All my hot metal brands and irons have come from Mike at Outpostwotkshop - www.outpostworkshop.co.uk/ - who does a great service and top quality work. Mention my name if you contact him, and he’ll be sure to look after you. 👍👍
Ironic that my 2 most watched CZcams guys come together. Yes, you both offer something very different in terms of the way you work, but enjoy both equally. I was toying on the laser system but have decided to go down the router CNC route instead.
Thanks Steve! 👍
I bought one of these a few weeks ago!
Are you and Dennis going to start a budding war on who releases the video first on a Friday?
Are you and Dennis going to start a budding war on who releases the video first on a Friday?
No - he's on Amsterdam time, he'll always win! 😂
Toy Player, Thank you for a very interesting sixteen minutes. I don't do this kind of work myself, but all knowledge, & experience is useful, sooner or later. And what a pleasant and helpful fellow Dennis was on the Zoom Call. And I am going to his channel, the minute I finish writing this note to you. Brian, the " Toy Player. " Thank you Both.
Our pleasure! 👍
Hi Peter, great video. Could this lazer be used for cutting paper or card?
Hi chris, and thanks! Yes, it can cut up to 4mm MDF, so paper / card shouldn’t be an issue at all. I’ll be looking at the capabilities in more detail as I use it more. 👍👍
Nice video!! I've bought the same machine. However, I'm struggling and trying to learn the configuration for each material... Do you know any place to learn about it? Thanks!!
No, sorry. I’ve only used trial & error. 👍
Hi Peter, possible video idea for you.
I currently have a broken ryobi random orbital sander and the only sensible priced replacement in stock is a makita.
I like makita tools but would rather get a dewalt but it's out of stock, so here is the problem.
Where can I actually get a dust collection adapter that actually fits it. It is a constant minefield. I have one that is 3 pieces bodged together.
I have a cen tec system plus many parts that dont help.
I video with links to decent adapters would be really useful their expensive parts to not fit.
Thankyou for the videos I really enjoy them
Thanks! Unfortunately to make a video like that I’d have to buy or get hold of a variety of different sanders with different dust ports - something I spent years getting rid of! I agree it’s a pain having to adapt one to to another extractor, and it would be good to have a standard that would benefit everyone. 👍
Hi Peter, another great video. I would definitely be interested in a branding video as I’m just starting to get into branding. Do you mind if I ask where you get your custom hand branding irons from?
Thanks Shane! I buy my brands and irons from Mike at Outpost Workshop - outpostworkshop.co.Uk - great quality and service. 👌 Mention me if you get in touch with him, he’ll be sure to look after you. 👍👍
How long roughly did that take to print the logo Peter ?
Couple of minutes, thereabouts. 👍
This time next year ... "Welcome to video #162 of Pete's Unboxing Pleasure". TBH I'd watch that too 😅
😂😂
Another nice video. Interesting content but not something I will do I think. I’m still working on cutting things square 😂.
Thanks! And understand totally - I think I've got 'square' cracked for now! 😂 👍
Hey, any updates on the laser is this something you still have? And have had success with or was it just a failure? Would appreciate your honesty as I'm looking into them at the moment.
I gave it away a while back as it was just too slow for anything commercial, and I've no need for something like this oherwise. 🤷♂️ 👍
Hello can I attaching ccd camera to engraving laser Machine thanks I looking for your reply
I’ve no idea I’m sorry - I don’t have this any more. 🤷♂️👍
Hi Peter, can you advise what type of power plug is on this unit, did it come with the UK power plug? I am keen to buy one but need to know the power situation. thanks
I’ll have to check when I’m back in the workshop to be certain Debbie, but I’m pretty sure the power brick had a regular 2-pin euro plug with an adapter supplied as standard. If you’re in the market for a laser there are newer, more powerful versions of this machine available btw - hope to be getting my hands on one soon. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop are talking about the 40w version?
No, there’s a 50w “X7” model, though the 40w is a step up on mine by all accounts. 👍
Peter, with lasers you get what you pay for, with those cheap Chinese lasers they take the total system current draw and use that to advertise the power rating. The true optical laser power is more like 2, maybe 2.5 watts. A quality 6~7-watt laser alone cost between $800 to $1000 USD. There is a lot you can do with one of those little toys, but realize it has limitations.
Oh yes, of course - as I think I say in the video, I’m not expecting it to be anything ‘production-ey’ just an entry-level machine to see why they’re actually capable of, and if it can earn the space it takes up. 👍👍
Beam me up Peter.
Keep 'er lit Bro!
👍👍
Nice overview, Peter. That laser looks like excellent value, though as you rightly point out not really fast enough for any serious production use. Ideal for occasional bespoke work though.
Great to see the interaction between you and Dennis as well - I’ll pop over to his channel now and see how it looks from the other side 👍
Thanks Eddy! Yes, it’s a neat little laser, certainly a good way to get some experience with one without breaking the bank. 👍👍
Neat! Peter I’m interested in getting a couple of your squares, will your website convert to U.S. currency?
Thanks Steve. It's a regular Etsy store, so it defaults to $USD. 👍 I'll apologise in advance for the shipping costs!🤷♂️
Yes to video on branding with hot iron please Peter 👍
Deal! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I don’t even know where you buy them. Can you please let me know? Thanks. Keep up all the good work m8. I really enjoy yr videos. 👍
I get my brands and irons from Mike at www.outpostworkshop.co.uk - great quality and service. Tell I sent you if you get in touch. 👍
Excellent thanks peter 👍. I look forward to your video on hot irons soon then hopefully 😃.
One quick question Peter. Do you prefer electric 240v irons or blow torch ones please?
What program are you using in the computer?
Lightburn. Links in the video description 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks Sr!
Absolutely fascinating. Silly question maybe, but can it engrave aluminium? Many thanks for another great vid.
Haven't tried it, but my understanding is that it will only engrave metals if they're coated or painted. But I'm on the nursery slopes of this adventure, I'll know more as soon as I've had a chance to play a bit more. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thanks, Peter, I appreciate the reply.
Design/engrave the logo as a vector rather than a raster, it should be a lot quicker and look better. Also don't cut vinyl to make stickers, it releases hydrogen chloride which forms hydrochloric acid with moisture in the air, that will corrode your machine even with extraction.
Definitely put an full enclosure around it and run some extraction across the bed (air in and out). Even if you stick to just timber formaldehyde glues and the smoke is a nono for your health.
Also get a bit of cold rolled steel for the base it will typically absorb a lot of the energy it you do any cutting and raise the stock off the bed to cut. Even if you are just engraving it is way safer than pointing even this toy at MDF.
Also while Russ is talking CO2 Lasers a lot of the safety in particular transfers over czcams.com/channels/qCyShJXqnElPTUnxX0mD5A.html
Also for your Logo you might find Vector Engrave faster than Raster providing you don't have any larger areas od dark you want to include.
Not a tool for me but I understand your interest. I stopped following Dennis when his channel started to feel like a shill for Banggood. I would rather pay more money for tools not made in China, not always an easy option but it does give me a little more peace of mind. Thanks and keep up the good work and videos.
Thanks! No, not for everyone I agree. 👍👍
I’d be interested in a video on branding techniques
Deal! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop - same here. Love your channel and content!
I always recommend people throw away those 240V adapters that come with Banggood (& other) purchases straight away. Because they are unfused (potentially amongst other issues!) they do not conform to BS1363 & constitute a fire hazard. I imagine insurers will be reticent to pay out after a fire if the investigation revealed the cause was a non-compliant adapter like these!
What would you recommend as a replacement?
@@davidlove1887 If the device uses a regular detachable power cable (like a kettle lead), just replace the cable with a UK one. If the cable isn't detachable, I would generally cut the Chinese plug off the end & fit a UK plug top with a sensible choice of fuse (after briefly testing with an adapter just to make sure the unit isn't DOA!). If you really want to keep the Chinese plug for some reason, buy a proper compliant fused adapter from a reputable UK retailer - RS, B&Q, even Boots. At the end of the day, adapters are only intended for temporary use, so replacing a detachable cable or replacing the plug on a non detachable cable is the 'correct' solution.
@@CJDavies The ATOMSTACK power block comes with a standard Euro kettle lead input so your idea No 1 will work just fine : and absolutely agree with your comments :)

Novel. Tks Peter.
All these gadgets, taking up room? Getting tight yet?
Cheers Dave. Yes, a bit - but there are ways to make more space.👍👍
“You can blame me for the first one” Damn I’ve blaming you for the second and third too....😂 That said every time I use the Domino I do so with a smile and I love using it and by that point the cost doesn’t enter your head. Nos. 2 and 3 were the OF1010 and 1400.... will you take partial blame for early onset of router addiction?
Haha - well, you have a router that I don’t - the OF1400 - so I’m not sure you’re the one to be wagging the finger here Ian… 🤔😂😂👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop 👍Peter I think you are missing the point.......😂😂😂
(It must be the bad chimp part of my brain that has the addiction!)

Good idea not to chop the back end of the belt just in case the belt stretches as time goes on.
I thought so! 😂👍
They should be fairly stretch resistant due to the belt's inner core (cotton is it?)
A silver sharpie signed super square
Always Syd, always! 👍
Jumped the shark
🤷♂️ What does that mean??
@@10MinuteWorkshop Odd that our man has used that term. It originally refers to writers trying anything in desperation to maintain interest in shows. Missus is an amateur screenwriter so heard it a few times. But here "top cheese" is...apparently interested enough to watch your vid in the first place. How very clever they must feel.
Oh, and I enjoyed the vid btw Peter. Very interesting.
Cheers Stew. Yes, I assumed it wasn't complimentary - I just wish people would say what they mean, in plain English. 🤷♂️
@@10MinuteWorkshop it was an episode of Happy Days where The Fonz was water skiing, and jumped the shark - a now used to suggest a lack of custody line material.
