Episode 01: "Sandpoint Needs You!" - Pathfinder 2e Actual Play - Rise of the Runelords

- The Knights of Last Call begin their epic adventure! We embark on the legendary Rise of the Runelords adventure path, updated for the second edition of Paizo's Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
Designed to take characters from level 1 to 20 over the span of 6 harrowing adventures, what begins as a small goblin attack on a backwater town soon turns into a race against an ancient evil force attempting to secure dominion over the world!
In this first session, you are introduced to the player characters and to the town and inhabitants of Sandpoint. A small village in the hinterlands of Varisia, Sandpoint has always been a quiet and untroubled spot but that is all about to change and the Knights have arrived just in time!
Thank you for joining us, welcome to the Knights of Last Call! - Zábava
Really appreciate the rules explanations. My table is switching to Pathfinder 2e after the whole WoTC debacle so it's really nice to have an example of actual gameplay to see how it all works.
Everyone's at the same table. That's a damn good start.
I'm just getting into pathfinder and this is exactly what I needed to wrap my head around the mechanics. Subbed!
Awesome! If you have any questions drop a comment on any of the future videos and I'll try to answer them. ALSO make sure you get caught up; we are wrapping up the second adventure in this week's episode and in our third chapter we are going to be doing a bunch of PF2 book/merch giveaways!
I agree 100%. The audio quality is also on point.
Really like that you took a quick moment to tell us the players and the characters they're playing. You'd be surprised how many CZcams streams that play don't really bother to do that.
The best goblin voice acting I ever heard
perfect goblin energy, big Nok-Nok vibes, hit all the right notes of pure evil-child-chaos
The goblins seemed a bit too comically evil for my taste but I liked the energy and the voices were well performed.
I've run Rise of the Ruinlords for 3 different groups in 1st Edition and managed to complete the whole adventure each time. Almost every play told me they'd played the first book but never finished it and I found that unacceptable because this is, in my opinion (And I've been playing TTRPGs for 40+ years and running games almost as long, so I'd like to think my opinion counts) one of the best adventures ever made. Don't really care for the end boss for the 1st book, but besides that, I've never heard anyone say anything but praise for it.
You had me at spicy curry and flagons of ale.
I know I know! Just the descriptions of the Rusty Dragon and the food/drink served there make me want to visit!... just SUCH a cool inn with such a cool owner
TTRPG vet here but new to P2E. I greatly appreciate your simple but clear explanations on the rules without getting to far in the weeds. Keep it up!
Thanks! We don’t want to be preachy about the rules, but one of the goals of us making this channel/AP was to better educate folks out there about PF2 and let them see “under the hood” so to speak. Not saying that we don’t focus on the story and evolving narrative, but we also think mechanics/feats/bonuses etc. are pretty important too!
@@KnightsofLastCall This video is a "critical success" in achieving that purpose. 11/10!
Not sure who plays the "Burl" character, but I'll be god damned if he's not the most fantastic player I've ever seen!
I think I saw him on a magic tournament stream one time
Yeah he would be even better if it didn't take him over a month to start using his core Sorcerer powers :D
Totes agree, like fo sho!
I like this. I comment. Algorithm and all that.
Well thanks a lot! Hope you enjoy the rest of the episodes; drop us a comment if there's anything you think we could be doing better; we are new to the whole "video record yourself playing RPGs" thing :D
Just finished episode 1. Looks great so far. I find it very charming that it's just a bunch of friends playing Pathfinder together. A lot of other Live Play formats feel a bit too theatrical and overdone. Liked and Subscribed. I'm looking forward to watching more episodes!
Thanks! Hopefully you like some of the changes we make to the production as we go on and started learning how to do things a bit better... We are trying to raise funds via our Patreon to eventually take the show live (with recordings of course) so that we can get feeback from our fans as the gents muddle their way through :D
I can promise you: it never gets theatrical or overdone hahaha :D
You know, I'm not usually into watching people play RPG's online, as I'd rather be playing myself, but you guys seem to be having a great time and remind me fondly of some of my favorite groups I've GM'd. Thanks for doing this! I'm looking forward to following along on the adventure!
Welcome aboard!
I was prepared to give up on 2e because of how complex it seems on paper, but your professional sounding explanations, coupled with an AP I'm VERY familiar with makes it into a simple science
Subbed
The guy on the left laughs just like Seth Rogen. It's fucking awesome.
That would be Matt who plays our gnome sorcerer Burl... and I agree he’s great!
I thought the same exact thing.
I saw beer at the game table and subscribed.
Really curious about Rise of the Runelords! Love that y'all are running it in 2e.
Welcome aboard!
@@KnightsofLastCall cheers!
Am now up to episode 6. Love that y'all keep improving the production quality.
Hey from Canada! This is a wonderful "series"! I love the dedication to Pathfinder 2e, the accurate, detailed and still short enough explanation of the rules! And you are all fun to watch play! Good job guys, I'll continue to watch all your videos while I'm starting to DM RotRL on Pathfinder 2e!
Perfect! Good luck; drop me a comment if you have any questions. We are going to try to get a Discord server set-up here soon!
I like how you're explaining everything, super useful for a newbie to the game like me.
Absolutely amazing session to watch for people who have no or very little experience with the PF2e. This does really feel like a bunch of friends learning the system together while playing. Thanks for the effort guys, this is quality content.
I have not played Pathfinder yet (although I want to learn) I am truly impressed by this run. The tempo and way that the GM interacted with the players fits my desired style perfectly. Although I have great respect for Matt Mercer I do not enjoy watching Critical Role and this style shown in this video definitely goes the direction I like to go. Thanks for sharing this great video, I look forward to watching the others! :)
Love this guys, really has helped me get my knowledge back upto bar after not playing for a year or so. Really entertaining too.
Thanks so much for the great series!
Our pleasure!
Great show, binged the first 5 episodes yesterday. Keep up the great work!
Awesome!!! Love to hear it. Critique the hell out of us, we play just for fun obviously but we might as well do a good job if we are going to set up all these cameras and such... so let us know what you'd like to see more of and/or different!
Thanks again :D
Just started watching this and I love what I see, you guys are great!!
Thanks Liam; I really hope you enjoy the series as it moves forward; we get some better lighting and sound equipment and start tinkering around with the layout and presentation of the game.
Do you play PF2 currently or just curious about the game?
Great stuff, looking forward to watching more
Welcome aboard! We barely knew what we were doing in these first few episodes; but we start to get it figured out over time :D
Really enjoyed this, thanks!
Our pleasure!
My wife and me have been home sick with COVID and have binged episode 1-10 so far. We are both new to this type game and we have learned so much and look forward to seeing the story progressing.
I like the way you introduce your players.
Ya, I've always seen and experienced it as each player introduces their character in-character speaking in 1st person. But that always felt awkward and hamfisted to me.
Looking at pathfinder for the first time this week. You are my first example of it in action.
Great session guys! Pathfinder2e is hard to grasp at first, but I love the action economy. Using actions to intimidate, or trip are very helpful. Anything you can do to take an action away from a foe or add penalties is very useful, given the parity between party and foes. In the Pathfinder campaigns, you are always fighting to survive. :)
Amazing show ! I'm sorry for my bad English but I wanted to give you thanks for the love of Pathfinder 2 that you share with us. I wanted to adapt this first adventure path with my group in Belgium for a while now.
Cheers with some trappist beer from my country ;-)
Glad you enjoy it! I'm still hoping to provide some conversion guidance in the future!
@@KnightsofLastCall Thanks for the job well-made and the time you took between your narrative to explain the rules of Pathfinder 2 to your players and to us who are watching.
I've watched the second episode and I was happy to hear that the goblin monk have joined the fray.
Great video. Happy to see more PF2e games. I learned quite a bit. New subscriber.
Welcome aboard! Drop us a comment if you have any questions!
This was awesome. As others have said, your goblin RP is legit!
lol, thanks :D
28:00 wow your goblin sound is actually amazing! It's exactly fit in my image for goblin
I just this game. Absolutely love the group so far.
Thanks so much! We are very glad to hear that you are enjoying the game and the group! Stay tuned, we have big things planned for Chapter 3!
Just subscribed. Getting back into PF2 and find your channel informative and inspiring! 👍
Man!!! Watching this session gave me an idea to use a skill my characters in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous have but I never used it before cuz I thought it was useless. Gonna try it when I get home.
I owe you guys about a billion comments - fantastic content fam! For a new gamer, or uh... OLDER gamer like me, this is top shelf content. Lets go!
You guys are great. Thanks for all the hard work I believe in you!
Well hello there my binge material for Christmas week
Hope you enjoy! We got through a lot of growing pains :D Some people like our earlier "rough" days... some people find some of the remote-audio a bit jarring. If you really want to skip the rougher stuff maybe skip ahead to episode 10 or so?
Great content!
After the whole D&D OGL thing, I'm looking into Pathfinder and this is helping me to understand the game a bit better
Enjoyed this, reading, and researching is one thing, but seeing it in play really helps. Also have some things I might've missed, like stamina.
The cards over the DM screen as initiative tracker is sexy
Greetings from Canada!
Just came across you guys. Always glad to see more Pathfinder groups online.
Sounds like you guys are having lots of fun. I just have to try and temper my reflex to cringe at all the rules infractions. :p
It's all about the fun, though. :)
Loving the use of the Stamina ruleset. Haven't seen it in action, yet.
Hahah yeah; dont' worry we figure ummm MOST of them out over the first few sessions. While I picked up the CRB at Gencon 2019 on release and had read it; this was my first time running a full game other than doing Fall of Plaguestone back in 2019
@@KnightsofLastCall No worries! Everyone starts somewhere. I just have a bad case of rules-lawyer-itis.
Looking forward to watching more sessions.
@@blaydsong you'll have to chime in with some of my more memorable rule-manglings (or houserules) :D
Amazing
Thanks ;-)
I just can't get over the fact that the one dude just straight up laughs like Seth Rogan.
I just started watching this series and I am very glad you didn't follow through with your "mute everyone" joke. I enjoyed hearing every single thing said by every player here regardless of the "importance" of it. Gonna definitely watch the whole series!
Yeah it’s about as unedited as it gets :)
Giants, Orcs, Soap...
A man...err dwarf... has to have his priorities in order
As a DM, I would absolutely lose my mind if a player stopped everything to make a book recommendation.
Loved watching the session. Was listening to most of it without watching screen and swore Seth Rogen was there. Joking aside cant wait to watched the next video.
And i give u alot of credit for converting Rise to 2e....
"A half-elf fighter who once served as a medic." ALERT! POWER GAMER DETECTED!
I love that I can tell this is the playtest by having spells broken up into actions lol
Or well you played the playtest
im in liked an subed :)
Awesome! Glad to have you aboard!
Burl is fucking precious
I agree! And it only gets better :D
YOOOOO Victor baby love seeing you here
I’m just getting into the episode, but it’s instantly got a great vibe. I love the clarity and directness. Makes it easier to get into compared to many live plays. Thanks!
Glad you enjoy it!
@29:15 I like you can use whatever you want for a perception check as long as it fits.
My favorite part: the Seth Rogen laugh.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out as am in a group that is at L 11 running through the pf1 version
I hope you enjoy it; I did make a number of changes both to fit with PF2 and to fit with the format of the game (namely for CZcams). Using milestone based XP means I cut a lot of what I consider to be the "filler" encounters.
@@KnightsofLastCall Yeh i think AP reward milestone from playing in and running starfinder
Really appreciate this video. What with the OGL drama going on right now I've been looking for another system and I wanted to know more about PF2E and it's mechanics. This combat and the GM helping the players though the encounter really showcased how a lot of this works.
The drama is people overreacting to a draft. And now people are overreacting to the overreacting of the draft.
Thanks to professor dungeon master and all of sudden I somehow find another cool PF2 channel.
We got a lot of new folks joining us today! Hopefully some are interested in our actual play; but we do want to make more discussion and advice videos now that we have our new studio set up
Whelp I miss watching you guys play and I have no idea when the next episode is coming. So I'm going to rewatch your campaign from the top.
Yeah the holidays and some covid-issues made filming in December and January a bust. For at least the next few months, however, we are going to switch to LIVE shows over a virtual tabletop.
Our first Live broadcast is scheduled for 2/1 at 8pm EST!
@@KnightsofLastCall I'm looking forward to it! 😁 I've gotten to episode 9 since posting this xD
I imagine the festival being primarily an adult thing, with most of the children being entertained by puppet shows, physical games of teams (like dodgeball, kickball) & each venue is where the constables are stationed for fast response. However, some of the just turned teens are hired, who evincing "the alteration", to run the crowds & keeping an eye open for -- not illegal, but for the fest, unlawful -- use of magic. Whereupon, if they suspect any hand signs or funny language & strange results,,,the set off a bunch of fireworks...run away laughing at the startled groups. This is most often heard near the tavern(s) if they catch anyone nodding into the tankards.
I just started watching the play through. It's been very entertaining so far. Just heads up to any new players tho, they use a lot of house rules. So if you want to learn the rules, take it with a grain of salt. Otherwise, if your watching for entertainment, it's pretty good.
hello. thanks for the tip. im new and was watching this to learn. what would you recommend i watch to see a more accurate depiction? tia
@@beansmalone1305 If your looking for gameplay video's knights of the everflame and band of bravos, are both short 30ish episode adventures run by Jason Bulmahn, Director of Game Design at Paizo. They are very enteraining, and use rules as writen, as they of course are showing off the game.
The people at Recall Knowledge did an abridged run of Abomination vaults, and are doing Outlaws of Alkenstar. Again, both were very entertaining, and while they on occasion get a rule wrong, they are playing rules a s writen. But who doesn't get a rule wrong. :P Even the games i posted from Bulmahn get the odd rule wrong.
Other resources i like for pathfinder are The Rules Lawyer, Nonat1s, How it's Played, and Collective Arcana. And I'm not saying the Knights are no good or anything. The are very entertaining, and they have some combat and tactics videos you can watch that are very good.
@@thedukeofawesome4361 thanks. this was a great video. very entertaining.
Hey, this is really late, but thanks for these videos. Entertaining and the casual explanations/coaching really help with grasping the system.
Also, just an aside, are any of you guys veterans? Just a hunch but I felt like I'd ask.
Pretty good stuff. Loving it so far 👍
Can I ask what cameras/mics you guys use? This looks pretty much like how I'm looking to set our own streams up
Early on we used ATR-2100 microphones. Pretty soon you'll see we upgrade to the Rode Podmic's... which I think are fabulous for the cost/value. Those are being routed into a Rodecaster Pro soundboard.
For cameras, we were pretty spoiled.. I was a photographer so our video was show mostly on high-end mirrorless dslr cameras with high quality lenses.
Hey, love the show so far, just a small note: Desna is not the goddess of love beauty an the springtime, she is the goddess of luck, fate, travel and the moon, I think you might have her confused with Shelyn.
Also: flurry of blows applies MAP normally. I realize this is a year ago, but just in case some people watch this and assume you guys didn't make mistakes. Attacks in flurry of blow apply +0 then -5.
49:10 What is this about stamina? Great Video so far! still watching. Edit: found stamina rules in GM guide!!
Yup; you got it! There is a bit of a difference, however from the rules in the GMG.
#1 All of the PCs, outside of an Encounter can spend 1 Resolve to regain all of their Stamina [that's pretty much the same as in the GMG]
#2 All of the PCs, while in an Encounter can spend 1 action, and 1 resolve to regain half of their stamina or 2 actions/2resolve to regain all of their Stamina. No need to take any extra feats, they just get this for free.
@@KnightsofLastCall great ideas, I'll watch to see it play out hopefully.
Loving having the tutorial bits, but that Irish accent .......that was Swedish 🤣
the only thing consistent about my voice acting is the inconsistency!
I'm making the move to PF2e because WoTC sucks now and I'm really enjoying the explanation-heavy experience!
Enjoying the podcast. Glad to see one mostly clean! Keep it up!
Did you convert Rise of the Runelords on your own or is there another resource?
Seems easy enough to do if the critters are all available in the PF2E Bestiary.
YEs I converted on my own, I used monsters from Bestiary where it was 1 to 1. But most PF1 foes in AP are actually NPCs with a combination of feats and various class levels and special abilities...
Great show guys, eager to watch the others. One thing, a year too late, Kendra Severin is a woman. She looks butch, but she is definite female. 😃 Also, I felt the sting when you said you were going to mute that guy. Note to self - do not piss off Derek.
ahh yes, in my game we had a orc with 26 strenght and my character died on first session by challenging the guardsman. 10/10 would do it again.
Nice
And i went to staples and made a large post board map of Sandpoint for like 30 bucks
Hi, is there a podcast version that I can listen to? Thanks :)
Not yet! We are working on it!
So you're using the stamina variant? Interesting.
Nothing worse than having a drunkard at the table 😂
Do you guys have an audio version of these for podcast apps?
We don't! But more than a few folks have said they listen, but don't watch. We really really need to! This may be the comment that pushes it over the edge; I'll start talking a look tonight at what services I need and about converting our old inventory into audio form only!
@@KnightsofLastCall when you get a podcast, I’ll be another listener.
Do y'all have a podcast form or is video only?
Great question; we currently only do produce it here on YT in video form.
That being said; I do have the audio track available and should probably find a podcast service to publish to!
Just another thing to try to figure out how to do I guess :D :D
I noticed you said you were using Stamina. Are you using the playtest rules here or is that a house rule? Its confusing because it says this was uploaded a year ago.
Looking good... a wish, halve a year later, for post-production, how about showing the pictures the players are shown?
That said, until I could see such a change it might well be another halve a year or more since I started my first time in Rise of the Runelords and would like to prevent major spoilers. Sadly the DM wants to use PF1 while I really love PF2... but one can still have a lot of fun ^^
Yeah our first episode is a bit rough :D I do add in art, maps, illustrations, etc. over the first 6 episodes or so as we figure out what we were actually doing :D
@@KnightsofLastCall that is good ^^ But I will have to wait to see them, well at least this Adventure Path considering we managed only the goblin ambush in the first session, we only play every other week and you guys had several months ^^
But, there are a few other videos to watch as well ^^
did you convert RotRLs your self or is there a conversion out there? I really wanna GM this in 2e aswell
Converted myself... Although there is a resource with some conversion available through a Discord called "A series of dice based events". Look for that and sign up!
@@KnightsofLastCall gracias
I just finished the 2e starter pack, now my dad found the AP rise of the runelords which he never run with us as kids. I read throuh some parts of it and think it's pretty awesome. Problem: it's PF1,not 2e, is there a 2e version or did you guys just convert the pf goblins to PF2e goblins etc?
We converted some stuff straight up; most of it though we had to adjust to fit the expected encounter design math of PF2e.
Later on, many foes/creatures/monsters had to be essentially designed from scratch.
@@KnightsofLastCall does it work well by just converting the monsters or do fights become way harder/easier then they should be?
You don't have this conversion as a download somewhere, or do you?
I guess it's impossible die to copy rights, but hope dies last😅😅
That Seth Rogan laugh though. Lol
Have you guys done other things before? Matt's voice sounds really familiar to me.
Nope; not a thing. For everyone involved this our first time even posting to CZcams. Bob has been doing a podcast for a while with his other buddies around the discontinued MLB Showdown collectible card game.
Hey, the Shield cantrip only gives 1 AC. I wish it was 2 but it's only 1
Sorry for the slow reply! And good catch! Yeah we figure it out eventually; there's so many little details in PF2 that are so easy to gloss over. As it is; I was pretty disappointed that the cantrip only provides a +1 to AC, especially considering that any class (including a wiz/sor) can just hold and use a regular heavy shield and use the same 1-action to Raise Shield and gain +2 to AC. Something I've considered house ruling just to make it a more powerful/useful spell.
Not wanting to go on too much of a rant, but I have been disappointed in how few options there are to increase your AC in PF2! Light and Medium armor max-out at +5 AC (if you include the maximum possible Dex Bonus), while heavy armor maxes out at +6.... you then gain your proficiency... and then that's it! Short of raising a shield or getting cover (which don't stack) there are not many options to be more defensive and given the brutality of critical hits in PF2 it would be nice to offer a more defensive option.
@@KnightsofLastCall I know, people talk about these things a lot on discord and the general consensus is that Paizo did everything they could to make the game as balanced as possible so everyone will have very similar attributes.
Another small mistake you made is that Monk's Flurry of Blows do apply the penalty after the first hit.
Ah and about the Shield Cantrip, I asked about it and they said that it'd just be much better than a normal shield since you don't need a free hand to cast it, so a Barbarian or Fighter wielding a 2H weapon could easily have the same effect of a shield with their hands busy, so having a magic ancestry feat would be basically mandatory for Martial Classes. Well.. for everyone tbh, nobody would ever have shields haha
@@lincr.1988 Yup! We eventually catch on to that mistake as well; too many years of playing PF1 and having flurry being additional attacks at your highest BaB. Again, though, a bit of a disappointment. Monks are already kinda behind on the damage curve because of their low damage die and with the way striking runes work in PF2 having a high damage die is a huge plus. I always kinda see the monk as being highly accurate, albeit low damage. In a recent one shot we experimented with making Agile weapons (including obviously unarmed attacks) -3/-6 instead of -4/-8 and that did seem to help quite a bit; but still undecided if it's a good rule to operate.
It's crazy how much Paizo seemed to fear people making accurate 2nd (let alone 3rd) attacks... it may as well be illegal.
The no-hands things (it's verbal only right?) is pretty cool; and having a half-elf fighter in the group with a greatsword who has the Shield spell does prove useful from time to to time. BUT.... again... I feel like Paizo wrote their ruleset based around super optimized/minmax decisions...instead of around the most likely case scenerio (which is to say an arcane caster casting Shield, not some hybrid fighter person with a 2-handed weapon and the ability to cast the same spell).
Anyway; thanks for the Sub! Please continue to point out all the silly mistakes we make and tell me how awfully unbalanced any house rules I introduce are :D
@@KnightsofLastCall hahaha well Monks may fall behind on damage a little bit but you can't deny that they're tankier, they're super tough!
You want something dope with Monk? Try Tiger Stance (for the agile) get Heavenseeker Dedication at lv6 and Heaven's Thunder at level 8. Read that and lemme know your opinion.
About the -3/-6 I don't know man, some classes are supposed to hit harder, others to be more versatile, others to be tanker. There are things that I highly disagree in the game, the vancian system is one of them, I loathe the vancian magic system with the core of my soul. You should join Paizo's Discord, people are always talking about these things there :)
@@lincr.1988 I'll check out that build... I will say that overall I do think the monk is better in PF2 than in PF1. But all the martials seem to pale in comparison to the power of the Fighter; to-hit bonus is just everything in this edition of the game and the fighter has it better than everyone to the tune of +2 or +4 higher and that's hard to come back from. Other abilities may factor in for balance purpose, but there's no denying that if you are using Strike actions often...missing sucks, hitting is good, and critting is GREAT.
I love Vancian.... in the right kind of game; most notably old-school, suvivalesque/resource management style games. I think given the direction of PF2 it's horribly out of place and should have been entirely re-worked... Focus pools/spells were the right direction and should have been the main spellcasting mechanic.
Is there a podcast version of your content?
Not yet! We are working on it though; we like just got our patreon going and so are hoping to put the money into additional products and an audio podcast version
....well Knights of last call, I saw the end I had to come back hear to see how it all began. Not much has changed. You, Derick, STILL have to tell the players what their character's can do.
I think, if in the future if you use the cash for HP/VP/WOP/WOD, all benefits gained by cash reset to zero after ever combat encounter.
But it was the Wheel of Pain that TPK them. It made you money but killed the Adventure.
Could you maybe release the conversion of the AP
My primary resource has been the work of a group of folks over on Discord.
discord.gg/eEvSpvdv
They have threads dedicated to all the original APs!
@@KnightsofLastCall ty that really helps
@@coolio3267 No problem; another item which some folks have commented on over the course of the AP is that I have removed certain encounters. The original AP was (obviously) built around needing a certain amount of XP to level and so the adventures (IMHO) are jam packed with too many encounters that really don't serve a story purpose other than to pad the XP totals.
In a dungeon-crawling; exploration-based game I would absolutely love it. But since this AP is more of a "timeline/heroes saves the world" type adventure game I feel that these encounters just take away from the experience and bog the game down. ALSO it's a lot easier to run a tight AP like this using milestone-based levelling anyways because you make sure the PCs are always the appropriate level when they need to be.
Long way of saying: I'd cut out a lot of the encounters... so far I'd say I've removed ~ 1/3rd of them.
So you are rewriting RotR entirely in 2e ? Any chance you would share your notes ? 😏
While I adjust and update as needed; I've been basing it principally off the work done by a Discord "A Series of Dice Based Events" who are working to convert all the original PF1 APs into 2e.
Honestly most of the straight monster conversions are pretty simple; PF1 CRs and PF2 levels are pretty similar ; and you can always use the Weak/Elite templates to make quick changes to get the exact fit right.
The main work comes with NPCs; the real advantage there is that PF2 doesn't use the same "build from the ground up just like a PC" approach for its NPCs like PF1 did. That means I can just pick a target level; grab some stats using the creature building rules from the GMG and develop from there.
@@KnightsofLastCall Thank you for the answer !
Episode 2 please....
How about 2 in 2 days!
dude in the star wars shirt is always on his phone lol, every time the camera pans to him.
None of the players had any hardcopy books yet so he might have been checking online rules references; but probably texting too! Phones these days at the table are a blessing and a curse!

Desna is not the goddess of love and beauty, she is the goddess of luck, travel, and the stars. Hmph!
I think the AP lead me astray!!! :D
_Also,_ obviously as the GM you're free to do what you want… but per the AP, Sheriff Hemlock is a Shoanti man. Dark skin, no real facial hair. And I don't think he'd make that "Rusty Dragon" joke about his wife, as, from what I recall of the AP…
A) He doesn't have a wife.
B) His _girlfriend_ runs the local brothel, and is also very beautiful.
28:19 seth rogan
holy shit guys you oocing alot
Honestly, I don't see the point of using stamiina with Pathfinder 2e.
Two main reasons:
1. I essentially gave everyone the "Steel yourself" feat for free; this means they can spend some actions and resolve DURING a combat to recover Stamina. Essentially this allows any character to "self-heal"
2. I find that the 10 minute timer on focus spells such as Lay on Hands or Treat Wounds creates a problematic narrative fiction. After a fight, given access to unlimited healing it is completely understandable that PCs are going to and will want to heal up to full. However, even with Medicine Skill Feats (or Focus spells) this can still take several iterations of 10-minutes. This puts a bit of suspension of disbelief on the game when the heroes storm into an an enemy fortress (or a dungeon crawling with foes) and then spends 20 to 30 minutes hanging about in the middle of enemy territory.
The game mechanics/design are clearly based around the idea that the PCs should be at or near full hp for any significant combat and so if the PCs are beaten down after a fight... and then while recovering you assault them with say a patrol or wandering monster; this creates a real challenge on behalf of the GM since the game isn't as well designed around non-full hit point PCs in a combat scenerio.
Using Stamina therefore is more a narrative choice; it allows the heroes in my game to overcome a fight or challenge. Literally take a few moments to steady themselves and take several deep breaths before plunging ahead into the next challenge.
Obligatory Seth Rogan comment.
Oof...this is fun to watch, but oh my goodness I don't think I will ever play PF2e... that's a lot of keywords 🙁
