  • The Knights of Last Call continue their epic adventure! Join us as we take on the legendary Rise of the Runelords adventure path, updated for the second edition of Paizo's Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
    Designed to take characters from level 1 to 20 over the span of 6 harrowing adventures, what begins as a small goblin attack on a backwater town soon turns into a race against an ancient evil force attempting to secure dominion over the world!
    The annual Swallowtail festival has been interrupted by a sudden attack of vicious, flame-wielding goblins! After defending the townsfolk in Sandpoint's central square, the Knights rush to the Rusty Dragon to make sure their favorite inn (and its owner, Ameiko) are safe! More battles ensue, and this leads to a chance encounter with a nobleman from Magnimar. If the Knights can manage to save him and the town, they will have earned the gratitude of a powerful and wealthy lord and the entire populace of Sandpoint!
    Welcome to the Knights of Last Call!

      Very cool -- I figured we'd see some new folks coming over and taking a look. Be aware that we do use a couple of variant rules in this campaign (they are from the Gamemaster Guide) such as Stamina/Hit Points.... but on the whole no one here has any PF2 experience so you can learn as they learn :D

      Ahh the infamous badger.. so Matt the player used his gnome Ancestry feat to pick up "Animal Accomplice" perhaps it was the name but we just assumed it meant "Animal Companion" so we used it as such.

    • @KnightsofLastCall
      @KnightsofLastCall  Před 3 lety +3

      @@RekijanGaming We are 22 sessions in and I did NOT know that. I'm honestly pretty torn about that rule.... I really dislike it. I am certainly fine with rules for game balance sake... but not at the complete expense of all reality. Burl casting a Ray of Frost should have NO impact on Lucky the Badger's ability to make attacks.

    • @RekijanGaming
      @RekijanGaming Před 3 lety +2

      @@KnightsofLastCall Yeah it is clearly a system balance thing. In PF1 having an animal companion was borderline OP because of all those actions. PF2 really hammers on action economy balance and this rule is a result of that. Spending 4 actions (2 casting, 1 each for a Strike of the animal) on 3 attacks and only one of them having the first multi attack penalty is very strong.
      But how to translate that into the narrative is indeed tricky. You could argue that the command animal action takes some focus thus hindering the accuracy of the attack of the owner. Or in the case of the spell going first then the animal that the animal attacks later and thus has less time to find a good angle of attack.
      Or you could just reason that the whole to hit system is already an abstraction and balance is more important then the narrative. In the sense that a character will either hit or not in the story, and the character doesn't think in +7 or +2 for his attack.
      Or you know, you can just house rule and keep it as you are doing it if it isn't causing problems. I mean if it is apparent that the person with the animal companion is overshadowing the other people because of the advantage (the advantage of not sharing the MAP), then you really ought to enforce it. But if everyone is having fun and it doesn't seem a problem at your table, then yeah just keep playing as you have been.

    • @RekijanGaming
      @RekijanGaming Před 3 lety +2

      @@KnightsofLastCall I was a bit rambly maybe in my other response. I guess what it comes down to is the following. What is more important to you (either as a GM or a group)?
      A: Following game balance and finding a reason to have the rules make sense.
      B: Having things make sense at the expense of balance.
      In the case of A, well magic can always explain things. In this case the bond between owner and animal companion is magical/mystic/primal/whatever in nature. So it can be explained through some variance of that.
      And in the case of B, you just have to assess how big an impact it will have and if you can live with that.

      That depends. MOST of the time it is useless superstition, but occasionally, and with more or less frequency depending on the type and manufacturer, there can be defects in a die such as trapped air bubbles, or a settling of more dense material to one side of the die which can cause it to become unbalanced and therefore not truly random. In this case it is reasonable to throw the dice into "jail" of course most people throw dice "in jail" long before the difference can be called statistically significant, which is what makes it silly.

    I'm not sure why you think the alchemist has MAD or why you think INT doesn't help him. He generally relies on two stats, either DEX or STR and INT. That's not really MAD. Nearly every class relies on more than one stat. As for INT not helping the alchemist... I'm not sure what you're smoking, but I want some. It's the primary start for crafting, which is how he makes his potions. That's his whole schtick, and you can't do it without INT. Later, as he gains feats such as Calculated Splash and Expanded Splash for instance, INT aids his bombs. It's also adds to your class DC for all your bombs and effects that have saves. There's not a huge number of them, but they're there. Granted, the PF1 alchemist needed INT more, but that's not saying the PF2 can do without it.

    • @KnightsofLastCall
      @KnightsofLastCall  Před 2 lety +2

      While I feel that all Alchemists are a bit MAD; in this particular instance the Mutagenist is extremely MAD.
      I'll quote the rpgbot Mutagenist guide:
      rpgbot.net/p2/characters/classes/alchemist
      Str: You need it for damage output when you move into melee with Feral Mutagen.
      Dex: You need it for your terrible AC.
      Con: You need it for when your terrible AC fails to protect you.
      Int: You need it to craft mutagens.
      Wis: You need it for your terrible Will saves and your terrible Perception.
      Cha: Dump. You’re already MAD enough as it is.

    • @dangercat8919
      @dangercat8919 Před 2 lety +1

      @@KnightsofLastCall That's fair, except doesn't everyone need DEX for AC except the fighter, and everyone need CON for HP, and everyone needs WIS for Perception. That isn't exclusive to the Alchemist, so I kinda feel the claim was exaggerated a bit. Having said that, I think you're right one hand because the mutagenist needs these stats more than others due to a lack heavy armor training. I wouldn't call that extremely mad, though (by this definition, the rogue is crazy mad too for the same exact reasons). Either way, it's a very interesting discussion. I'm enjoying the game play and am eagerly watching the entire series!

    • @KnightsofLastCall
      @KnightsofLastCall  Před 2 lety +3

      @@dangercat8919 Yes I think it's especially problematic with the mutagenist because it reads like it should play like Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde and that when you go into your "battle form" you should be able to rumble...
      The issue with Str/Dex etc. Is that the Alchemist is proficienct with Medium armor but you need a reasonable Strength to not be unduly burdened by it; so if you want to wear light armor and still gain +5 AC from armor then you need dex too... also if you want to be able to use bombs at all you also need Dex... but if you want to do damage in melee with your mutagens then you need Strenght. etc. etc.
      I'd say the Bomber is probably the "best' build. You could be a 16 Dex, 16 Int build and get both to 18 by level 5. Your DCs will be high; you'll have plenty of bonus reagents and you'll have the Dex to have a good AC (Studded Leather would give you 2+3) and have a good to-hit with your ranged bombs.
