well I guess it took a lot of firepower to destroy the shield generators
Well it did take the entire missile load of two A-Wings just to take out 1 generator.

ilmevavi In the canon and in the legends they're both sensor and shield generators. Even during the Battle of Endor in Return Of The Jedi when the A-Wings took out one of the domes one of the bridge staff said "Sir, we've lost our bridge deflector shield!"

Of the Stardreadnoughts, the Executor-class was the most successful. Frankly I'd take an armada of these than something as impractical as Starkiller Base
The would probably be more affective and harder to destroy because those super weapons are all the same almost
a fleet of Eclispes would be better or at least have an Eclispe i nthe fleet of SSD's the Eclipse have interdictiing abilites.

An armada of them with support ships and frigates for anti-starfighter measures would have been far harder to combat than Starkiller base. Even with just the sheer number of fighters they can hold
At least the Death Stars had defensive guns and their superlasers could be used for destroying capital ships, like we see in Return of the Jedi. Starkiller base's weapon can clearly only be used for planet busting

The Eclipse would be far more expensive given the superlaser and 10 gravity wells. And frankly the Executor-class alone has enough firepower to reduce the surface of a planet to molten slag without the need of a crust cracking superlaser. And frankly I'd rather have an intact planet than a new asteroid belt

Heck in the old Star Wars Rebellion game my Death Fleet was an interdictor, 8 SSDs and a Death Star.
While the Eclipse, Sovereign, and Executors are absolute classics and I love them to death, I think that if I were a Sith Lord I'd get a Vengeance class. It just looks so cool and intimidating, and it just gives off a Sith feel in appearance. It helps that it probably has a pretty heavy armament as well.
Eclipse is everything. Also, I wish they would make a Sith Wars and Old Republic film. 😭

They say the Eclipse is a combination of the Executor, and the Death Star. As they pulled the Executors length and the Death Stars size and Super Laser and put them together and make the Eclipse
The Eclipse does exist in Star Wars Canon. However, Disney decided to make it an Executor-class dreadnought rather than Eclipse-class. It served as the Emperor's personal flagship, and later served as an escape craft and base of operations for the Imperial Remnant that would eventually become the First Order.
Still, wouldn't it have been cool if the Eclipse had showed up at the Battle of Exegol? Even if it was Executor-class, it could have been modified to resemble its Legends counterpart more closely.

For those old republic dreadnaughts, I’d still consider them dreadnaughts because ships the size of large corvettes were used for the same role as Star Destroyers at this point in history, so for the time I would definitely consider it a dreadnaught

Having played Absolute Corruption mod and Imperial Civil War: Thrawns Revenge for Empire At War: FOC, I'd say the Sovereign is my favorite Star Dreadnought. It's not as powerful s an Eclipse-class, but it's smaller, faster, and definitely cheaper. I also like the design somewhat better.

Althoug it easily would fall into the "Exception Category", as it definetely was consiedered a Dreadnougth by it's time. And the Providence-calss is also there, so why not the Malevolence?

One day I hope a film or animated TV show shows off the 'official' specs of one of these ships in action because watching them in action in the current film/TV media it seems they carry 30-50 fighters and have about 20 guns max.

Attrition, rebellions (not just the Alliance), guerilla warfare, loss of central leadership, etc. Alexander the Great had one of if not the best militaries of the age, but his empire died with him.
After the death of the imperator the leadership wasn't clear and admirals started killing each other because they wanted more power. Due to the chaos in the higher ranks many important battles were lost leading to the viktory of the rebellion

Othello Velgara yes but the ion cannon has nothing to do with it being a dreadnought or not, it still has to reach the rule of 5.000 metres or more.

+Ben's Wørld Yeah! It does not have the length over 5000 meters I think he said, but it was the largest ship in the Separatists I think Navy. I'm not too good on classifying the kinds of militaries different governments have, but I do know the classes of ships.
Ben's Wørld it has a length of 4,850 metres, close to being a dreadnought but was consided one as it was the largest ship in the separatist navy but its sister ship might be bigger then it.

the last time I was so early was when everybody was shocked about star wars episode 5: the empire strikes back
There's a book that came out recently called Empire's End that details the battle of Jakku and the origins of the First Order. More importantly it makes mention that the First Order have a Star Dreadnought called the Eclipse. Whether it's the same class as the one in the EU or it's a new Star Dreadnought with it's name just being a reference, I have a feeling we're going to see it in Episode 8.

If the Providence destroyers are dreadnoughts, what about the Subjugator class ships, I.E. the Malevolence. It was, as far as I can remember, about three to four times larger than a Venator, nose to tail end. Anyway, just wondering why they weren't on this list, that's all. Love the channel, and can you do a video on ARC Troopers and their training/equipment next?
