This video brings up an excellent point. I hear a lot of people say Vader didn't go to Tatooine for a long time because of all this trauma involving it, yet he set up personal HQ on Mustafar of all places.
The only real answer is screenwriters having a flair for the dramatic and Mustafar looks a lot cooler than Tatooine.

Not only that but it would also be a massive plothole if there was a significant Imperial force as well as Vader, while simultaneously Luke and Obi-Wan remain hidden from the Empire. For a day they could pull it off but I’m sure over the course of years Vader would feel them there

Another, potential important, reason for this movement was that he had also closed a very important chapter that had brought him down on Mustafar to begin with: Kenobi.
Obi-Wan had been one of the major ties due to Vader's defeat at his hand on that very plannet, and he had finally, after so many years obsessing about him, finally ended his former master, the lowest point of his exsistance.

  • @rustkarl

The Executor was a statement of drive.
    Following Mustafar, Vader was… listless.
His potential squandered by his injuries and his wallowing on the past.
He had no future, no drive, no hope to do much of anything.
The pursuit of strength meant nothing with no purpose behind it.
Luke was indeed a New Hope for Vader as well, unfortunately for some that resolve made Vader a much more active and potent force.

  • @Sci-Fi-Mike

I think Vader was able to largely forget about his failures on Mustafar when put the place up on AirBnB. His focus on Luke may not have been purely familial, though. It may have focused more simply on someone strong enough with the Force to help him eliminate the Emperor. Maybe?

    • @fenrirgaming37
      @fenrirgaming37 Před 5 měsíci +7

I feel it was a variety of factors. Part of it was familial, as a large part of Anakin's dreams were to have a family, since the loss of his mother affected him greatly, not to mention the loss of Padme also dealt a blow to him. Another part was the desire for power and to rule as well. There was not a singular reason for his sudden increase in power.

This theory makes a lot of sense. On Mustafar he just wallowed in the past. At least on Vajun he had his training facility and his starfighter workshop and kept active. But it was on his SSD that his fire, his passion was rekindled and he truly became a Dark Lord of the Sith.

I aliken Vader to a walking corpse or tomb, a mausoleum to failure pain and depression, all that Vader knows, the discovery of Luke Skywalker ignited the spark that turned Vader into a legitimate and powerful threat, but this spark of life also ignited the sparks of Anakin, and slowly but surely Anakin started to resuscitate within the dark lord of the Sith, slowly but surely Anakin clawed his way out of the darkness that was Vader and then to save his son, the once powerful chosen one, broke free of the broken dark lord to save his son

    • @roycehuepers4325

This is because Anakin and Vader are still the same person. Anakin is Vader's innocence. But as you watch the Clone Wars, you do see Anakins as much a dark sider as a light sider. He fell to the dark side for the same reason he got back to the light. Anakin was always passionate. His drive as a jedi was to protect everyone. Unfortunately this rather noble ideal is also very easy to manipulate due to the fact its impossible.

@@jimbowlan5804 They had mutual dislike for each other, I remember hearing this from a video on why Palpatine is the GOAT, and it is "The prequels are about a religious order finding the Messiah, and handing him to the devil." this is eerily prescient on how the Jedi and Palpatine handled Anakin, the Jedi pushed Anakin away, pushed his compassion for others away and punished him for it (See how he handled things like Obi-Wan's 'Death' and Ahsoka's trial) they punished him for being attached. He couldn't form a relationship with his master Obi-Wan and instead Latched onto the positive reinforcement of Palpatine, Anakin didn't deserve to be a Jedi master, his reaction to being placed on the council (while justified) showed he wasn't ready for that role, however it isn't just petulance, he is hearing from someone very close to him that he is a powerful Jedi, and is worthy of the rank, but the Jedi fear he is becoming powerful. This is what he is hearing from someone he trusts very much. And when his Wife was in danger of dying, and the Jedi offered no support (His all but confession to Yoda), Palpatine, again someone Anakin trusts and cares for very deeply offered the solution, and yet he did go to the Jedi with this information, and he goes to save Palpatine afterward, but Mace has Palpatine defeated and is going for the kill, at that moment, Mace proves himself a Hypocrite in his eyes, since he had killed an unarmed man (Dooku) and he knows he shouldn't have, Mace proved the Jedi Hypocrites, and it led to Anakin retaliating to defend Palpatine, and from their, the fell, brought to the brink of molten death, and like the devil, he restores the mutilated and immolated man into a monster dropped in black and machinery, entombed in a skull-like mask of what was once a face, and condemning Anakin into becoming the ruthless destructive monster known as Vader, who was all but incapable of caring or showing any form of compassion for another being.

Nicely done. I agree with the analysis, but to me the main reason for Vader living on Mustafa was self-punishment for killing the woman he loved. By learning that he has a son he realized that Padme did not die by his hand and therefore his self created purgatory became obsolete.
I always considered Vaders lag of emotion a sign of superiority. Your interpretation as part of depression intervening with the codex of the Sith is brilliant.

It was good to get out from Mustafar, and to have a real agenda to pursue.
So, vaguely related question; in canon now, how did the Emperor find out about Luke? By Jedi, he seems to know, and Vader is aware he knows. It's still a bit clunky how each intends for things to go,but they know, abd are at least sort of collaborating. In Legends, at least, Palpatine was famous for, among other things, his prophetic ability; he could see the futures better than most, and act accordingly. His position as Emperor, but also his remoteness from his Empire's day to day, allowed him the marathon farseeing meditations needed to do this, but what about in canon? When does he discover Luke, and let Vader know he's aware? It would seem that by ESB, he openly knows, and hadn't kept it a secret he did, but how did it come to be?

He’s the Emperor of a galaxy spanning empire. He has many means at his disposal to gleam such information.
The name ‘Skywalker’ had likely slipped from (some random) Rebel in the know, who knew that Luke (was the one who had) destroyed the Death Star at Yavin IV.
For all we know, Holonet News and the (what passes for) Holonet social media sites were all of this story months before Palpatine decided to call Vader and break the news to him that he had a son.
It’s possible that the Bounty Hunter that Vader had hired to (find) the guy that blew up the Death Star, posted the info before telling Vader, in hopes of playing the field for a better bounty payout offer.

I think one reason why palpatine allowed Vader to have his primary residence on Mustafar is that it kept him far away Coruscant and thus away from the center of power. That way it would make any plotting against him by Vader much more difficult because he would have less access to powerful people or sensitive places he could use against him, which he would inevitable try to do that do to being the way of the Sith, which requires an apprentice to eventual turn against and overtake their master.

Return of the Jedi did make it appear too easy. However, consider the official chain of events:
1: Palpatine ties the Executor’s hands, forcing it to pull its punches cuz he wants the Death Star to slowly one-shot all the Rebels
2: The Death Star loses its shields, shifting Imperial attention to try to defend *it*
3: (the most important step) Admiral Ackbar orders the entire Rebel fleet, consisting of dozens of capital ships, to “concentrate all fire” on the Executor. And remember, the fleets were now at dangerously close proximity (to prevent the Death Star from using its superlaser)
4: With the Executor’s primary shields badly weakened, starfighter missile strikes bring down her bridge shields
5: The aforementioned A-wing crashes into the bridge
6: The Executor was in the middle of a maneuver near the Death Star, allowing a catastrophic collision before auxiliary control could be asserted
It’s sad that most of these elements had to be explained by supplementary media, but this was because the explanation was NEEDED. The Executor outweighed a Star Destroyer 1000 to 1, and what was depicted onscreen was recognized as insufficient.

Slight problem for that. If that was the case, then why when he finally got his son, he handed him directly to the Emperor, so that his master could help convince Luke to replace him. Did he not see this coming? It seemed pretty obvious. Infact, when Luke was going to kill the emperor, maybe he should have blocked him, maybe he should have let them happen and when the emperor stopped him, vader could have helped his son at that time. Over-throwing the emperor was top priority, after all. And then he could try to turn his son. That whole part was not planned out at all.

The real question is how would anyone know who Luke Skywalker is? Vader never told anyone (not even Emperor Sidious) that Padme was pregnant and he was tricked into believing that he killed them both on Mustafar. As far as Vader was concerned, Luke was dead so there was no reason for Obi-wan to worry about the Empire looking for Luke.

Yes, but Sidious never sensed Luke's presence at all until after he blew up the death star. Sidious couldn't sense Leia either and he only found out about her when he overheard Vader saying that Luke has a twin sister. For someone who claimed to foresee everything, Sidious couldn't have foreseen Padme giving birth to the 2 people who will bring about his own downfall.

But why not do one on what would of Anakin have done if he learned that both Count Dooku and Palpatine were responsible for his mothers death at the hands of the sand people, And that it was because of Palpatine that Padme really died because the images put in his head of her dying were all fake. Do you think he would of killed Palpatine and become a Jedi Master and lived a long and happy life with Padme, Luke and Leia or would he of still Joined the Darkside and ruled the Galaxy as he saw fit.

Imagine being the cleaning person on the Executor responsible for cleaning Vader's office 😬.
I'm going to say it: the e whole Sith code is… really dumb. "There is no peace, only passion…"
What the hell does that even mean? It doesn't even make sense. Of course peace exists, you can objectively see it and map it out. Passion is the most fleeting of emotions, and the easiest to be manipulated.
Desire, hatred, fear; anyone with even the most rudimentary vocabulary could come up with half a dozen better choices off the top of their head. You never hear characters use the word "passion" in reference to the Sith, or the dark side.

    • @silvercat18
      @silvercat18 Před 5 měsíci +1

The passion thing means using your emotions to drive your actions. Jedi were motivated by logic and calm, whereas the dark siders were fueled by rage and desire. In word terms, its using passion as a synonym for emotion.

He feeds the pain, and learns to control the rage, but doesn't power up right like a normal Sith. Palps was leeching those powerups. Cuz he could, so why wouldn't he. Anakin Skywalker basically ceased to exist after briefly fighting his way to the surface to utter the words “I am not your failure Obi-Wan”. “You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker” he was then consumed by Vader who then proudly proclaimed “I did”. That was the day that he truly became just Vader. One of the biggest reasons a lot of fans do not understand Vaders actions in the Kenobi series. It’s because in that series, that was not Darth Vader. That was a broken, destroyed, twisted and evil Anakin Skywalker. Who wanted to die, or exact a terrible revenge on the man he blamed for his failures and the cruelty of his continued existence, his brother, mentor and master Obi-Wan Kenobi. When the Death Star was destroyed and he discovered that he had a son, Anakin Skywalker was reborn. But not as the defeated walking corpse he had been before. But as a pure embodiment of the light side of the force, Love. I think it’s also why he became more dangerous as he started to master both light and dark in balance. Just as he would later be entrusted to do in the force Netherworld as the new Father, and guardian and gatekeeper of the world between worlds and the force and Time itself. It’s something I never realised until I rewatched everything. Darth Vader only really existed as the sole personality for 10 years, of course being born in the bloodbath and massacre of the Tusken Raider tribe on Tatooine in 22BBY. When the existence of Luke Skywalker was discovered, he became split into two once more, Anakin Skywalker began to grow again. He is such an awesome character and so interesting to deep dive into, because his weaknesses and failures are known to all of us. What ultimately led to his downfall was what also led to his redemption. It also is a metaphor that a person sometimes be broken and destroyed, hit absolute rock bottom to then be able be reborn from the ashes to fulfill their true purpose in life.
