Axton, in my humble opinion, is the best starting class for beginners because he can throw his turret to draw agro and at the same time, allow the player to become more comfortable with first person shooters
maya will always be my favorite. that phaselock is just savage once it starts slagging,then it's down the tree that has convergence and that other awesome skill that makes your phaselock sentient, and thirsty for blood if the current enemy dies while your skill still has time left.
Axton, when you get two turrets that you can also deploy at a distance (longbow skill), gives you a ton of options later on, so he's not just good for lower levels, but is quite able to handle higher challenges. But if you play Borderlands 2 long enough, eventually you will try all the characters (or you should) and you'll see just how much thought to replayability and ways to suit your play style that the creators put into the game. Truly, it's one of the games for the ages.
For me, I’d say the most fun I have playing is Krieg or Maya. If I want to destroy raid bosses for my friends and help them farm raid bosses, Salvador and Zer0 for sure. If I want to chillax and just play through the game without any stress I pick Axton or Gaige. But it took me several years to get them all to op10 without asking for help with level boosting.
Honestly all the characters are good. Each adds significant replay value to borderlands 2. It is important to remember that all the characters are good but some are slightly better for beginners, veterans, early game, late game, and team-play. And that is what makes this game so great to me and many of my friends.

Not enough love for sniper Zer0 in these comments. Sniping is incredibly powerful in Normal and TVHM! You just snipe the enemy and it dies. It's probably the best class to perfect your aim if you have not previously played FPS games. With BL2 being my first FPS and Zer0 being my first character, I went from being unable to shoot for my life to pretty freaking accurate! Another benefit of any build of Zer0 is basically everything about decepti0n. Walked into a bad situation? Go decepti0n and get the hell out of there! Up against a tough enemy at close range? Decepti0n and line up your shot and shoot/strike during the last second to annihilate it! Once you get the Kunai later on you will be unstoppable! Kunai usually slags the enemy and with that alongside the applied death mark the damage from everything is absolutely massive! Even in UVHM, things just die. Even in UVHM Zer0 still works well. The only difference is that you need to slag stuff, but that applies with every character.
I do love Zero's panic button deception. Sniping is really strong in the early game, but you don't need to use a glass cannon character to do it. Maya can snipe amazingly well with a lot more survival, and Axton can snipe with his turret for aggro relief. It's mainly Sal, Gaige and Krieg who have anti-sniping synergy. That said, Zero is still probably the best-designed character in BL2.

It's a lot easier to snipe with shitty green guns than to get up close and shoot with shitty green guns. A green Jacobs sniper or Maliwan in the early game can be a godsend to your survival and ability to kill things. Sniping in general in just really strong in early game. It doesn't get "weaker" if that's what you thought I was implying. It's just that other combat styles get stronger when you have access to better gear. It goes to the combat philosophy that distance = time, and more distance between you and enemies makes you less likely to get shot to shit or melee'd. That matters less later in the game when you have more survival skills/gear and better reload speed, fire rate and DPS overall. Even in early game, Zero has a lot of basic tier 1 and 2 skills that get a lot out of sniper rifles.
Amen to the green gun sniping! I'm playing UVHM now and I'm using green Jacobs snipers. It would certainly be nice if I could get my hands on a blue or purple one though...
Salvador was my first. I liked that his action skill encouraged me to stay in the fight. Ammo consumption was a new mechanic to me (my only previous fps were Metroid Prime and Portal 1&2) so he made that easier. Plus it was great being able to slag and burn enemies at the same time. The health regen was great too.
Maya is my favorite character, so I would recommend her. But Maya or Axton are good choices for the early game. The main thing is that when you start, you're going to have crap guns and no skills. So you need an action skill that's good on its own and you need a character who will allow you to play the game normally and learn what to do. This make someone like Krieg absolutely fucking awful as a new character. Krieg turns your shields into hot garbage unless you have the right gear and his Hellborn tree at early levels will get you murdered many times over by putting a DoT on you when there's nothing to kill. It's even worse because his DoT health regen skill is tier 5. I swear, NVHM with Krieg is harder for me than UVHM. Axton and Maya are great because their skills tend to be general buffs with no downsides. Axton gets a tier 1 40% reload speed boost, which is crazy useful for early on when your guns suck. He also has a skill that regenerates health when your shields are full, and this is also excellent for the early game. In NVHM and TVHM, his turret missile skill is at least as powerful as Cloud Kill. It just doesn't scale well into UVHM. Axton and Maya can use whatever gear you find, unlike characters like Krieg and Gaige who have very strong gear preferences and get little out of some weapons. Salvador is just broken as we all know. Zero is incredibly fun and well-designed and will teach you to be a better player, because he really benefits when the player uses his skills intelligently and doesn't run around spamming. So in order of beginner-friendliness, Axton and Maya can use everything and have great skill trees that buff them generally in many ways. They have some amazing tier 1 skills like Sweet Release to really make you feel like your early points are giving you a direct benefit. Zero is harder to play because he's more fragile, but he will teach you to be a better player and learn about hitting crits and managing aggro from different sources, as well as prioritizing powerful enemies. Salvador is a pretty good beginner character too because, even without a Grog, he gets healing in gunzerk and he regenerates ammo, which makes the most of your limited ammo pool. Inconceivable is tier 1, and his tier 1 brawn tree skills are great too. Gaige and Krieg are harder to play in NVHM. Without a lot of SDU's, trying to play Anarchy Gaige in NVHM and TVHM will just make you waste all your ammo and buy more constantly, plus the anarchy damage buff isn't NEEDED in those modes anyway. She has a long cooldown during which you're much more vulnerable. Krieg is capable of crazy damage, but outside of a pure melee build, he has a lot of skills that will actively fuck you over and kill you in normal and TVHM. Skills like Feed the Meat and Embrace the Pain, as well as his Hellborn tree WILL get you killed in early game modes when you don't have the points to invest deeper.

I got the handsome collection free with ps+. I had never played any borderlands game before, I chose krieg and I haven’t made anyone else. He has been extremely fun to play and his buzz axe had saved me a lot early game.
I've always loved Krieg and Salvador. Krieg because he's a fuck nut with his dialogue(and his proficiency with explosives never hurts) and Salvador because dual wielding and ammo regen is fucking amazing! His dialogue is funny as hell too.
Maya is really good for a beginner character for other reasons, such as her sustenance skill giving her health regeneration at all times, her rez skill is perfect for trying out multiplayer, the nurse class mod gives even more health regeneration, elemental damage over time effects make it easy to get a second wind when downed, and many more things.
BL2 is one of the few games like this that had amazing balance. The 6 vault Hunters are all pretty much equally powerful, they're just different. The same can be said about the pre sequel
Oh, yeah, Krieg is by far the best class, with Axton as a runner up, IMO. However, Krieg is for advanced players, because his chaotic playstyle with Mania+Bloodlust is pretty hard. Source: Me failing horribly on Krieg first time I tried him.
Spartan375x how so? Acton barely has any truly great melee bonuses. Zero and kreig are better. although, gauge also has an OK melee bonus so she can make it work
I like Maya because I go for slow meticulous gameplay at higher difficulty. Her phaselock is awesome. Axton is very flixible, he is good for new players who want to the learn game basics and experienced players as good turret placements are game changers
From the base game, I'd say Axton was pretty good for a starter (although i was instantly drawn to Zero just because that's just me) as the turret is great aggro and it can also save people from a FYL. Then Gaige got added and with the specific noobie help tree and then she replaced Axton in that regard.

I only found VPG's videos earlier this morning and they are very good, although I do wonder why, even in these beginner's videos, he's playing a level 72 with many abilities and weapons a begginer wouldn't have! When I watched Salvadore's one for example, he was demonstrating and showing Sal's 2 guns ability but didn't say where or how that was obtained and/or at which level. Surely crucial information for a beginner?!
Melee zero was my first character. I played him till whatever base game Max lvl was when the game came out on 360 I took Maya through all the dlc though. Only ever made it to op 5 though
I've always preferred axton, his turret is very useful at drawing Agro and his grenadier class mod makes grenades a lot more useful, especially when paired with guns that benefit from grenade bonuses
Every new player starts with Axton and Salvador. One of which is the most noobiest character to be and the other one actually takes skill to play as so hats off to axton players

I think Maya is the best for new players, but is also amazing for higher difficulties because cloud kill does a lot of damage. I would say the best three classes in no particular order are Maya, Salvador, and Krieg. This is because these characters are good on all difficulties. I'd played Borderlands1 with all the DLCs first, then moved on to this game, and I really liked Maya and Gaige so I'd say they're good for both beginners and more experienced players.
My opinion is is either Salvador and zero because Salvador can duel wield weapons wich do x2 damage and zero is good at hiding so if your fighting against someone really strong you can hide with your special ability then wait for it to charge and attack and hide. Also I love zero the most just because of bore. I use bore to kill the bunker.
Zero yes, Salvador no. Salvador is an absolute burden to level up. Always trying to find two guns that aren't awkward together make the first 40-50 levels annoying. He's always an incredibly boring and brain dead character to play as. No skill needed for him
Axton and Gaige are best starter classes because of companion (turret/robot) that can help with second wind, as well as they have rather straightforward but effective skill trees (except Gaige anarchy which is a little more tricky). Others have either overloaded complex skill trees (Krieg) or require a lot of effort and game understanding to actually utilize the kit (Zero).

My brother came to me a few years ago and said play thus game,it's fun as hell. I said,I'm not playing a game like Borderland's 2,it sounds dumb. But a year later I was bored and played it. I haven't loved a game so much. I played the crap outif it. Got all the dlcs,got all characters to Op 8,except zero. And I finally got it on Xbox one,the handsome collection,and I didn't save my characters to the cloud. So I'm fine with going thru the story lines again and farming everything. Thanks gearbox for making a great game.
CovenantArch 882 I really don't believe that, kreig is the worst character against raid bosses. The only raid he can actually kill quickly and efficiently is pyropete... And even then he still has troubles killing him cause of how hard it is for bloodsplotion to actually be affective. I'm not saying you're lying, but I am saying I don't believe you.
I hate playing Salvador so much but there's no doubt that money shot is overall way more overpowered than bore. Bore only works well in certain situations. Money shot is devastating anytime.
Gunzerker is fairly fun to level up as your 4th character or anywhere beyond that if you have saved all your good gear from previous leveling. Without gear Salvador is just crap, unlike quite literally every other character in the game.
I've played all six classes, and I usually end up back with Maya. Gaige is really funny, too. I guess it's just down to the way you play the game. I could never get used to Sal, but that doesn't mean he sucks - just that he's not really suited to my play style.
The only issue with the character's or rather the players on average is that you will see so many beginners choosing Zero having seen the intro at the main menu and expecting to be a badass ninja which is very well possible, but takes a well built and thought out skill tree and character build for him to be executed in such dramatic ways.
Krieg was my first. Part of the problem now is that i just never learned to play properly. I can get through all of main uvhm with release the beast. But it never taught me to really shoot. Now when i try to go deep into with any other character that relys on guns i just get this monkey urge to melee instead of strafing or taking cover when nessesary
Noticed you using a bladed weapon with Krieg, just a little note to anyone who isn't aware, his normal melee actually has higher damage than your regular +50% bladed gun.
I would have to give it to Maya. She can give a good learning curve to the game and makes you lean the game well. For people who just start and don't fully understand the power of Slag she will really teach you. I will be honest I didn't when I started and when I got about level 15 it was a fucking amazing welling wrecking people. When you get a full understanding of the game Salvador would be better because he is a walking death machine. I would also recommend to new players to look up a new gun every time they see the red text on guns. The wiki seems to be very reliable
I'd say that gaige is probably the best character for starting out with as specing heavily into deathtrap boosts can coast you through the entirety of normal mode. on top of that, anarchy is just an incredibly stupid for something that only costs one perk point to start out with and blood soaked shields is nothing to scoff at either. Salvador can be a little hard to get used to at first for some, but as you start perking up he becomes a very consistently good and reliable character, and just downright OP with certain weapon combinations, such as grog+DPUH or grog and anything really.
when I first started Borderlands 2 (and I was new to fps games on the pc at the time) I actually found it easier to learn how to play with Maya just because Phaselock actually allowed me to get used to aiming in the game and lining up headshots in the initial levels, just some helpful feedback here
I would say you made pretty good picks, and I can see why Salvador, despite being incredibly powerful didn't make the cut. Not only does he need good guns, and knowledge of weapon synergy, but also his gunzerking ability, while good, isn't particularly flashy or bombastic, and may come off as being slightly boring to new players.
I thing that Axton is great when you're new to BL2 or FPS in general. The turret is a great panic button if you are a bad shot and are having trouble hitting nimble enemies. Axton's skills are pretty straightforward and easy to understand for a newcomer, no bizarre skill combos the other classes have plenty of. I only have the GOTY and it is the only character I leveled to 61.
I went with Axton just because he can use every gun variant without suffering heavily from it due to his skills. Although some of his skills are more centered around assault rifles (which I hardly use) smgs and pistols fit pretty well with him and I have no problem with it. His turret like you said is good for pulling agro and when you have gemini and rocket pods unlocked it gives enemies a hard time depending on where you place them. When I first started I was debating between Zero and Axton and Axtons overall gun flexibility got me although I am working on a Zero and Sal character which I still need to experiment with in terms of skills.
Remember when borderlands 2 first came out and half the people who bought it played zer0 the first time... Good times

Ayden McNamara he sucks he's one of the crappiest bosses tip try and hide on the bit were you go to start the boss you can hide there.
Noah Hill especially good if Borderlands 2 is your first fps. It helps train your aiming.
Of course, Zer0. He is amazing character for solo raiding Hyperius, Master Gee, Terra and his ability allows to speedrun Normal and TVHM easily.

Maya is really good for a beginner character for other reasons,
such as her sustenance skill giving her health regeneration
at all times, her rez skill is perfect for trying out multiplayer,
the nurse class mod gives even more health regeneration,
elemental damage over time effects make it easy to get
a second wind when downed, and many more things.
BL2 is one of the few games like this that had amazing balance. The 6 vault Hunters are all pretty much equally powerful, they're just different. The same can be said about the pre sequel

Oh, yeah, Krieg is by far the best class, with Axton as a runner up, IMO.
However, Krieg is for advanced players, because his chaotic playstyle with Mania+Bloodlust is pretty hard.

I only enjoy Maya, Zer0, and Gaige.

Axton is very flixible, he is good for new players who want to the learn game basics and experienced players as good turret placements are game changers

From the base game, I'd say Axton was pretty good for a starter (although i was instantly drawn to Zero just because that's just me) as the turret is great aggro and it can also save people from a FYL. Then Gaige got added and with the specific noobie help tree and then she replaced Axton in that regard.
Salvador. As soon as you can get a rocket launcher to park in your right hand during gunzerking, you may as well call the left trigger button "I win!"
I love Zer0. But i must say that for me Slavador is the best character to play.

I only found VPG's videos earlier this morning and they are very good, although I do wonder why, even in these beginner's videos, he's playing a level 72 with many abilities and weapons a begginer wouldn't have! When I watched Salvadore's one for example, he was demonstrating and showing Sal's 2 guns ability but didn't say where or how that was obtained and/or at which level. Surely crucial information for a beginner?!

Melee zero was my first character. I played him till whatever base game Max lvl was when the game came out on 360 I took Maya through all the dlc though. Only ever made it to op 5 though

Didn't care that much for Pre-sequel, but Lady Hammerlock was fun.
I've always preferred axton, his turret is very useful at drawing Agro and his grenadier class mod makes grenades a lot more useful, especially when paired with guns that benefit from grenade bonuses
Every new player starts with Axton and Salvador. One of which is the most noobiest character to be and the other one actually takes skill to play as so hats off to axton players

Legendary Sal with Slagga, DPUH, The Bee, maxed out Money Shot basically breaks the game
I think Maya is the best for new players, but is also amazing for higher difficulties because cloud kill does a lot of damage. I would say the best three classes in no particular order are Maya, Salvador, and Krieg. This is because these characters are good on all difficulties. I'd played Borderlands1 with all the DLCs first, then moved on to this game, and I really liked Maya and Gaige so I'd say they're good for both beginners and more experienced players.

My opinion is is either Salvador and zero because Salvador can duel wield weapons wich do x2 damage and zero is good at hiding so if your fighting against someone really strong you can hide with your special ability then wait for it to charge and attack and hide.
Also I love zero the most just because of bore. I use bore to kill the bunker.

Zero yes, Salvador no. Salvador is an absolute burden to level up. Always trying to find two guns that aren't awkward together make the first 40-50 levels annoying. He's always an incredibly boring and brain dead character to play as. No skill needed for him

Axton and Gaige are best starter classes because of companion (turret/robot) that can help with second wind, as well as they have rather straightforward but effective skill trees (except Gaige anarchy which is a little more tricky). Others have either overloaded complex skill trees (Krieg) or require a lot of effort and game understanding to actually utilize the kit (Zero).
I don’t care what anyone says. Krieg is the greatest character in the series.

My brother came to me a few years ago and said play thus game,it's fun as hell. I said,I'm not playing a game like Borderland's 2,it sounds dumb. But a year later I was bored and played it. I haven't loved a game so much. I played the crap outif it. Got all the dlcs,got all characters to Op 8,except zero. And I finally got it on Xbox one,the handsome collection,and I didn't save my characters to the cloud. So I'm fine with going thru the story lines again and farming everything. Thanks gearbox for making a great game.

And even then he still has troubles killing him cause of how hard it is for bloodsplotion to actually be affective. I'm not saying you're lying, but I am saying I don't believe you.

The only reason I didn't pick Sal is it's to tedious for me to find weapons that synergize early on.
My first character is zero he has best skill in the game bore which is a good thing on bunker,hyperius,ect.
Homie Doge Its no the best skill since it ONLY works and Bunker and hyperius and you need to try hard to make it work for hyperius.
I hate playing Salvador so much but there's no doubt that money shot is overall way more overpowered than bore. Bore only works well in certain situations. Money shot is devastating anytime.

Gunzerker is fairly fun to level up as your 4th character or anywhere beyond that if you have saved all your good gear from previous leveling. Without gear Salvador is just crap, unlike quite literally every other character in the game.
At the end of the day, a rookie player will need to learn how to choose which guns and shields to keep and which ones to sell

I've played all six classes, and I usually end up back with Maya. Gaige is really funny, too. I guess it's just down to the way you play the game. I could never get used to Sal, but that doesn't mean he sucks - just that he's not really suited to my play style.
The only issue with the character's or rather the players on average is that you will see so many beginners choosing Zero having seen the intro at the main menu and expecting to be a badass ninja which is very well possible, but takes a well built and thought out skill tree and character build for him to be executed in such dramatic ways.

Krieg was my first. Part of the problem now is that i just never learned to play properly. I can get through all of main uvhm with release the beast. But it never taught me to really shoot.
Now when i try to go deep into with any other character that relys on guns i just get this monkey urge to melee instead of strafing or taking cover when nessesary
Noticed you using a bladed weapon with Krieg, just a little note to anyone who isn't aware, his normal melee actually has higher damage than your regular +50% bladed gun.

I would have to give it to Maya. She can give a good learning curve to the game and makes you lean the game well. For people who just start and don't fully understand the power of Slag she will really teach you. I will be honest I didn't when I started and when I got about level 15 it was a fucking amazing welling wrecking people. When you get a full understanding of the game Salvador would be better because he is a walking death machine. I would also recommend to new players to look up a new gun every time they see the red text on guns. The wiki seems to be very reliable

I'd say that gaige is probably the best character for starting out with as specing heavily into deathtrap boosts can coast you through the entirety of normal mode. on top of that, anarchy is just an incredibly stupid for something that only costs one perk point to start out with and blood soaked shields is nothing to scoff at either. Salvador can be a little hard to get used to at first for some, but as you start perking up he becomes a very consistently good and reliable character, and just downright OP with certain weapon combinations, such as grog+DPUH or grog and anything really.
when I first started Borderlands 2 (and I was new to fps games on the pc at the time) I actually found it easier to learn how to play with Maya just because Phaselock actually allowed me to get used to aiming in the game and lining up headshots in the initial levels, just some helpful feedback here
I would say you made pretty good picks, and I can see why Salvador, despite being incredibly powerful didn't make the cut. Not only does he need good guns, and knowledge of weapon synergy, but also his gunzerking ability, while good, isn't particularly flashy or bombastic, and may come off as being slightly boring to new players.
I thing that Axton is great when you're new to BL2 or FPS in general. The turret is a great panic button if you are a bad shot and are having trouble hitting nimble enemies. Axton's skills are pretty straightforward and easy to understand for a newcomer, no bizarre skill combos the other classes have plenty of. I only have the GOTY and it is the only character I leveled to 61.
I went with Axton just because he can use every gun variant without suffering heavily from it due to his skills. Although some of his skills are more centered around assault rifles (which I hardly use) smgs and pistols fit pretty well with him and I have no problem with it. His turret like you said is good for pulling agro and when you have gemini and rocket pods unlocked it gives enemies a hard time depending on where you place them. When I first started I was debating between Zero and Axton and Axtons overall gun flexibility got me although I am working on a Zero and Sal character which I still need to experiment with in terms of skills.
