As a non guitarist, after learning to play watch over you and wonderful life (both in open G) in acoustic guitar I found so much inspiration to try and write something in open G. I ended up writing a song that I really like without knowing almost anything guitar

Yep... started playing guitar again after 20 years, and learned Watch Over You as my first song back on guitar. Then thought, while I'm learning in Open G, might as well learn Wonderful Life. Really like Open G. Now, most of the time I have one guitar tuned to standard and the other to Open G.

same tuning, tune it down half step to DbGbDbGbBbDb now you can play 'In Loving Memory'. this open string tuning is so beautiful. every time I'm on acoustic Wonderful Life, Watch Over You and In Loving Memory are top of the list.

I’m so glad you mentioned tuning that B string a little flat. That’s the key. That and muting the low string with your thumb over top when you’re not using it. 😂❤

I actually changed my strings, thinking they were bad because no matter how much I tuned there was just something sounding off in Open G...had I only known it was just the B string.

There's another interesting reason it sounds so appealing as it relates to resonant sound frequencies and how they affect everything around us including our own bodies, the current standard tuning (A440) was only instituted in 1939 (which is worth researching!), Prior to this it was 417,
Very basically, the current standard promotes a frequency of 741htz which is disruptive, open G (specifically open Gsus4) promotes a frequency of 528htz which is extremely beneficial, there's plenty of precedent for thIs, weather your inclined spirituality, scientifically, neither or both, I'll post a link below worth watching,
Love ya work miles! Particularly your acoustic sets with slash, fuckin' awesome,
    Cheers🤟

Or you could take the B string all the way down to B flat for open G minor. I love the minor tonality. Not as pretty as major tones but it's like my little granddaughter once told me "Grandpa, quit playing that sad music". Sorry girl, Grandpa got the blues.
